I guess I've finally gone deaf after all these years of listening to music too loud...guess I better just die right now. No point in living without music. Cya guys.
I really wish you could get the music back for this. It was really wonderful. New Orleans has been through so much with hurricane Katrina and now the oil spill and this song lets you see how resilient the people there really are.
Just got back from NOLA for Mardi Gras and the whole time I was there I was trying to remember this song! All I could remember was that it had "Pontchartrain" in it. It took some research but I'm so glad my memory was jogged and that you posted this great original version. THANKS Mempho!
JUST SO EVERYBODY KNOWS... I love this song & visited MemphoTenn's site regularly. I was here the day WMG (or whoever) deleted it. MemphoTenn was kind enough to direct me to the other site. I'm glad he or she posted the link, because there are fans who love this song. Just enjoy the song please. Peace to all.
I love this song and I love New Orleans too. I go every year and EAT!! I really love Mother's on Poydras for breakfast and Margerittaville's for dinner. Of course Cafe du Monds. The time is coming up to go again in May, which is really hot at that time of the year, but it's all worth it.
in the heart of the night in the cool southern rain, there's a full moon in sight, and the river she rises just like she used to do...she's so full of surprises...
I write MemphoTenn and she said she can't fix the sound. She said YouTube has removed this video from her montage due to copyright issues. She didn't even know we could still bring this up.
I live in New Orleans and this is beutiful, thanks for the video. Orgullosa de vivir en New Orleans, una ciudad maravillosa. THE BIG EASY, only in New Orleans.
i heard this song today, on a grocery store's piped in music, and was instantly transported to a wonderful time 25 years ago and to people I have long since lost touch with. Kids, just remember, your parents were once people with dreams, and who connected with other people, and places, and who had to leave their dreams aside. It's your turn now and I just wish your generation had music as beautiful as this.
Really... I am sure they'd love to release a new record... but the blame is the record companies' for putting out the same endless trash that they think people want to hear - and only promoting crap. I think they have a website you can visit. I believe they still tour in some variation of the members. Many 70's & early 80's artists are still doing shows and producing their own material. Like I said, it just doesn't get promoted b/c what gets attention these days is trash.
@PEDROCLASSIC lol yep they are a great band. They're still playing festivals and clubs. George Grantham, the drummer, suffered a stroke in 2004 and no longer plays with them, but they remain close. George Lawrence replaced him. Paul Cotton unfortunately has left the group just recently -supposedly over a financial dispute-.. . Jack Sundrud had joined the band, and Michael Webb will be replacing Paul for upcoming tour dates
I used to live in New Orleans, and I used to hear this song on a jukebox at my favorite bar in the French Quarter- good memories...excellent video, it was very moving for me... ( sniffle )
This is an great song, great southern song.I grew up in the 80's, this was that type of music in that time... Thankyou for posting it, along with the video you put together you did an excellent job.
I must have heard a snippet of this song somewhere yesterday because it's been in my head since then. I've had a rough week with my Pop being in the hospital. The song brought me comfort for some reason. I looked it up today and found this beautiful video. I've only been to New Orleans once but I fell in love with the town and the people. I went after Katrina volunteering in the 9th Ward. This video captures the spirit of the Big Easy. Thanks for posting it.
Was thinking of this song at work today, and thinking of the city of New Orleans, a place I'd come to love in my four visits before Katrina hit. Haven't been back to visit since, but I still think about the friends I made there, and wonder how they are doing.
I saw pics of places I visited before Katrina hit. I miss the old girl, she has bounced back, but will never be the same as she once was. Thanks for the beautiful video.
The new music of today lacks the sincerity & feeling of the great songs of our past. I find myself going back to them again and again to refresh my spirit. Then again, I've never left them behind...
When HURRICANE KATRINA hit NEW ORLEANS, all I could think of was PAUL COTTON, and his lyrics to this SONG! HE SO LOVED THIS PLACE, he always refered to it in his writing. In this SONG, HE TOOK ME THERE, I GOT WHAT HE WAS TALKING ABOUT, although having NEVER BEEN. Something 'bout the PONCHATRAIN and a DIXIE MOON and a LOVERS KISS, that to me is a GREAT FEELING!
New Orleans and Memphis are two cities that have this unexplainable vibe that you can only understand by having been there. As they say, "it must be in the water!" There really is something mystical about that river.
@gimmeshelter64 yep..Paul loved to sail....whenever Poco came to South Florida we traveled to see them. They're our favorite band. such great musicians. so sad for George Grantham that he had the stroke and now can't play with them. and no more Paul! Paul was without a doubt, my favorite. Man, when Rusty breaks out that Dobro! watch out! :D

This was another of those vinyl records i remember clearly even when i bought it... it was one of my dreams back then to make a radio show named precisely like this song. Beautiful video! I wish i'd known New Orleans before Katrina.
