  • This is the problem with passing someone when you can't see what is ahead.

  • That is some SERIOUS full reverse on the tractive motors.

  • As a fellow Train operator, ive been involved in a fatality like this, pray for the engineer. This stays with you

  • you can see the reaction on the conductors face when he walks around the front of the locomotive that ther was not going to be a happy ending. my thoughts are with the family but, also with the engineer that has to take this scene every nite for a sleeping pill

  • yep that was a Ford all right!

  • I wish we could get all the retards out of this world. In this case, people like this.

  • I was on that exact same Amtrak train 2 days earlier

  • Dan was a 19 year old with a suspended license for... speeding and not stopping at stop signs. He didn't care, drove anyway and continued his stupid ways taking 4 young people with him. Poor engineer. Poor families. All becuase someone thought they where too special to obey laws. The guy who hit me on a highway head on also had tons of past infractions at just 18. He disabled my mother for life. Why can't morons take themselves out BEFORE they hurt others.

  • @Mandy7D7 Stupid people dont know they are stupid. They think they are smart, and dont know they are not. Its the poor souls that sufered from this, life cut sort due to dumbass, and his inability too know red for green. 30 seconds wait, or death eternity. He made a bad choice. And a choice of those who had no voice. SHAME ON HIM!

  • If you wanna die this bad then get a gun and go off in the woods and blow your brains out, but don't make everybody else watch like this guy did

  • Oh shit

  • Just remember the train always wins!

  • One thing is true about this incident. It proves that nobody is invincible. Being a showoff and having a super inflated-ego while behind the wheel is deadly. What's really sad is that these situations claimed the lives of four other people.

  • i read the story in the newspaper and the girl n the front passenger seat was supposed 2 b home, not riding wit her boyfriend that had a suspended license. i hope the boys family has 2 live with the fact that their son cost not only his own life but the lives of 4 others

  • Watched a lady almost get killed by a speeding freight ! WHY must people try so hard to end their lives and in the process affect all those around them. The freight engineer was laying on the horn long before she started across the tracks and she still ran right in front of him. I've seen this many many times thru my life !

  • well at least they wont do it again......

  • i wouldn't of got out. i'd be too scared to look.

  • i hope the drivers head was cut clean off cause he deserved it.

  • @pdlsteeler1 your an asshole. you should be ashamed of being human. don't respond to this .

  • Comment removed

  • What a selfish bastard, not only did he cause those deaths but he has to force the train driver to murder them.

  • Well you would think a sign, and a very loud horn would be enough.

  • engineer has to live with this the rest of his life because some young asshole just couldnt wait a couple minutes (if that) RIP to the others in the car they didnt deserve to die because of one piece of garbage moron.

  • @rezmoneynwkubs +1 I agree

  • @rezmoneynwkubs i agree man careless driver i watch trains a lot im a huge railfan and amtrak only takes about 20 seconds to go thru a crossing and freight trains 2-5mins on average i feel bad for the 4 passengers the driver i cant feel bad for especially when you can see the gates were down lights flashing and the engineer blew his horn and there was an SUV stopped and the driver just went around and i feel bad for the engineer having to walk around everyday with that image in his head

  • @rezmoneynwkubs I feel bad for the engineer also. It all happened so fast, he didnt have time to slam on the breaks or swerve or anything. Very sad

  • @yynnmmbb How do you swerve a train on rails??

  • @yynnmmbb ho do the locomotives swerve oh its cause they cant the rails wont allow it wherever the rails go you go

  • Jessica was my bestfriend/cousin. this shouldn't have happened to her.. someone makes a bad decision and takes someone that was closer than blood from me..

  • oh and for more info on the stupid ass driver...

The Michigan Bureau of Motor Vehicles on June 21 suspended the license of Dan Broughton, 19, effective Wednesday through Aug. 7, according to state records.

From the time he originally received his license in July 2007, Broughton has had six tickets: one for an accident in Brownstown Township less than a month after getting his license, two for speeding, one for driving without a valid driver's license

  • Why in the hell people try and race trains I have no clue, if that's what they were doing.

  • Also...where is the camera microphone located on the train? Why can't we hear any voices?

  • Was the train truly traveling at 70MPH? It didn't look like it was going that fast.

  • @IwshIcldstrtover 65-66 mph timed from the crossing CCTV camera.

  • By the way, I was told that Amtrak no longer went through Detroit. Exactly where in Michigan does this train originate/end?

    thanx.

  • Amtrak does indeed go through Detroit. These Michigan trains originate in Pontiac MI and stop in Royal Oak, Birmingham, Detroit, Dearborn, and Ann Arbor, as well as other points west. This accident happened westbound, between Dearborn and Ann Arbor.

  • @warszawianka

Thanx for clearing that up -- totally didn't know. They always show the abandoned Amtrak train station when covering the "ruins of Detroit".

  • Amtrak left the old Michigan Central Station in the mid-80s because they couldn't afford the upkeep and the train volume did not warranty such a big place. They now run trains out of a small "Amshack" on Woodward Avenue north of downtown.

By the way, there is an interesting video somewhere on YouTube showing a Detroit TV news story on the old station not long before Amtrak left it. It's kind of sad to see the station in use and active as opposed to what it has become today.

  • I think I saw this, not realizing that the train station was moved, so thanx for clearing that up.

  • Look at the glass. The car is like a little blip under the camera. Look at how long it takes to break , and further, LISTEN TO THE BREAKS!!

I just cannot imagine. Thanx to AMTRAK for putting this on youtube. Now we see what the engineer sees, feels and how dangerous going around the train barriers are.

  • Amtrak actually didnt put it on YouTube. The Canton Police Department did.

  • But didn't they have to get Amtrak's permission to use their camera? I know they used a surveillance camera at the stop area and made a short about not trying to beat a train.

  • Yes they did. The Canton Police Department needed it for the crash investigation and Amtrak gave them the video.

  • i could see the glass go infrount of the cam

  • i was on that train that day no joke and it was so scary for me the car was crushed like a bug and yes that driver was a dumbass and should burn in hell for killing the 4 ppl ing the car :(

  • What you don't know is, the driver had had his license suspended only two days before, for traffic violations, one of which was running a red light. He was speeding up to 70 mph on the road to the crossing, according to witnesses. He murdered 4 kids, and took his own life because he thought he was invincible.

  • They were teenagers and they all died, yes the driver was responsible but he was a kid too and kids don't always think things through; They think they're indestructible.

  • "They think they're indestructible." no they don't.. no teen thinks they are indestructible. They like adrenaline rushes, but most of all, they like doing crazy things to.. prove themselves. I have friends that do stupid things so people will think they are brave, and risk takers. Every teen knows that when they are doing stupid shit they are risking their own lives.

Trust me it was more about impressing his friends, and/or girls, then thinking he was indestructible

  • how did you get this?

  • Oh geez...

  • WHAT A FUCKING IDIOT. That driver deserves to burn in hell for killing the other 4 in the car.

  • ASS HOLE DRIVER. Not that he deserved to be injured or killed, but WHAT A FUCKING IDIOT

  • Natural Selection.

  • then stupid suicides god bless the enginers

  • God bless the engineer and his family. It's tough enough when you kill an intentional suicide much less this. My heart goes out to the families of the children. Nobody should have to incur loss this way. The media does not care about the engineer. That story does not bring the ratings. He is the main individual that I feel sorry for. Like they say, "When you lay down with dogs, you wake up with fleas, or not wake up at all."

  • Not to mention the conductor who, from the video, was the first to see the wreckage and bodies in front of the train. That's an image that doesn't leave you quickly.

  • Yeah, you can see his reaction when he sees that it is 5 kids. Terrible all around.

  • I honestly dont think that you could have actually made out that they were kids.

  • If they partially went through the windshield, I think you could have made out that they were young people. He probably didn't look that long though. It must have been a horrific site, and that is the understatement of the year.

  • Ya they might've been able to make them out. Whats the understatement of the year?

  • That it must have been a horrific site. Nightmarish, closed casket would probably best describe the site.

    Kids+cars+speed = early death.

  • They didn't even just "pull out".... they flew around an SUV that was already stopped. I'm glad for this dash cam and the surveillance of the crossing so that Amtrak didn't get pinned with someone else's bad decision making.

Signals were working, horn blaring. Well, hopefully others will learn from it.
