@pretzelpimp - yes, i'm sure at some point there will be a DVD with all my death cab stuff. Not sure when it will happen though. I just think it would be great if all the death cab fans out there could have all this old stuff on one DVD rather than have to watch stupid youtube.
still months later i can't get over how amazing this is, Chris sitting down and all, just like the old days. Pre teenage fan base. Hopefully they'll do a facts reissue and start playing the songs more frequently as it defines death cab for cutie.
I have a few shows recorded. I'm planning on putting something more professional together at some point so i'm not sure I want to sell the footage right now. But thanks for the comments. I'll let you know if I change my mind.
every tour i've met them first tour became good friends with nick which was 2003 so he's remembered me every time and put me on the door for most shows. Met Ben three times on the past feb tour so in answer to your question Yes.
this is without a doubt the most awesome thing i have ever seen, i can't pick a best song from facts it's just all too perfect but this is right up there.
thanks :) it's cool because when I shot all these videos back in the day I just shot all this video for me. I put all these shows on VHS tapes and would just watch them at home when I wanted to see a good show. It's been so cool being able to share these with other people who appreciate them. So thanks everyone for the kind words.
I knew seeing them live for dirt cheap in small intimate venues was something special, even though they still weren't getting much attention. At this show i arrived right before they went on stage and walked right up to the front and didn't have to push my way through the crowd or anything. They were just a really good local band that the indie community knew were rising stars but nobody else had a clue.
(cont) i even had this acquaintance friend (moron) who was in a band at the time and he made an insane comment one time that there was nothing interesting going on musically in seattle. "I said are you kidding? what about death cab?" he vaguely knew who they were but just dismissed them. of course, 764-hero, pedro the lion, damien jurado, juno...there were all these other great bands in seattle at the time too. The guy was just completely in the dark but thought he was the shiz.
Yea that seems crazy! Sometimes people do too much badmouthing than is healthy (myself included at times). About the intamacy of the venue, I saw death cab in Nagoya (japan) this feb and it was so small and nice... Obviously they deserve to be big, but big crowds is one of the bad points of big-ness in my opinion.
Anyways, thanks for these vids; there's something special about watching a band that you love in its infancy (or at least before they made it huge).
yeah big crowds ruin it for me. i'm not sure what it means to deserve to be big. usually becoming big means having such hooky music that people with less discerning taste love it the first time they hear it. but then it gets played out then you get sick of it. But I think death cab got big for the right reasons and they did it the right way. but being big changed them from what they were. it was inevitable.

I hope someday Death cab will do a tour revisiting their first 3 albums and only play songs off those albums, that was their best stuff

That is so amazing! Did you ever think back then that a day would come when these videos would be the holy grails that they are?
