  • is it a good camera for hobby filmers?

  • @Shadowkirby007 Maby if you happen to have 50,000$ lying around.

  • @Shadowkirby007 If you can afford it, it is :)

  • 4:58... Saw it in Netflix.. HAD Awesome cinematography but the story sucked..

  • @OROSMEDIA what film was it at 4:58???

  • @davidbarnesRGM The one that looks like StarWars... don't remember the name. Shot with the RED. Saw it in Netflix.. the DP did an awesome job but the story did not help..

  • eeeeepic

  • For $8,325.00 I can get the same feel like what professional use with a CineAlta and if you know what they are there some of the world's expensive cameras $100k to $200k just to rent to buy is allot.

  • I'm sorry I didn't realize I was watching porn.

  • lmao that ending was funny

  • $58,000 and this isn't even 1080p.. :(

  • @sofresh412 Asshole you think this is a common camera? Do you think an IMAX theater has a 1920x1080 screen? Do some research this is for IMAX, look for imax resolution in wikipedia and you'll see...moron

  • @jamdc2000 It's obviously not a common camera. It's $58,000... I was joking about the resolution they uploaded it in. Apparently you thought i mean't the camera doesn't shoot 1080p.. I didn't.

  • @sofresh412 sorry about that, my bad...no hard feelings?

  • @sofresh412 it's 4k my man 4 times more than 1080p

  • Comment removed

  • @sofresh412 youru right. its not 1080, its 4K, which means that there are no monitors that can handle that unless you shrink the image res to 720 :(

  • @uhHundredPices I don't know about your monitor but mine can handle 1080.

  • That is awesome!

  • Why didn't Scarlet Johanson take her bra off? :)

  • @Darius12235

    Donnie Darko?2?

  • I think the cameras from Red are great just wished they had their production and distribution worked out.The delays are ridiculous.I've seen Red promoting the Scarlet

    and Epic from early 2008.

  • I was waiting for Scarlet to take her bra off...

  • This must be the best advertisement showreel for RED. Loved the show, and cos it's on youtube I get to keep my nickel.

  • wich movie is that > 1:22?

  • I'm so confused, what was that ending from?

  • Shitty youtube quality. Where can I download this at a higher bitrate?

  • Make that as my helmet cam plz..

  • Lol @ Scarlett Johanson! I was definitely waiting for a bra to come off

  • Red still beautiful even on 240p

  • Hi guys,

I know the video is about the camera but could anyone tell me what's the movie they show at 4.56 sec? It's the one used also as thumbnail for this video itself.

    I don't think it's Star Wars

    Many thanks,

    Luca

  • And am I the only one that thinks Spielberg's "don't vote" thing is annoying. Not only is it trite, but... maybe some people shouldn't vote. Think of all the dumbasses that know nothing about the candidates, but vote anyway because of campaigns like that. If you literally don't know anything about politics you shouldn't vote.

Don't vote because you think there should be a woman president or a black president. Campaigns like spielberg's get idiots to vote who don't really give a shit.

  • @freezazoid what an idiot!

  • @videorahim : dude, what r u talking about. You're the idiot if you thing the blonde bimbo who knows nothing about the issues should vote just to say she voted. And she'll probably end up voting on who she thinks is the cutest candidate or most likeable. When people vote just to vote it waters down the system. you're a moron.

  • @freezazoid it's you're fucking right to vote!

  • @videorahim I'm not saying people shouldn't have the right to vote! All I'm saying is why try to get as many people to vote regardless of whether they care or not? There's plenty of people who vote purely out of guilt but have no idea what's going on. I know plenty of people that know nothing about politics but vote just because they feel guilty. Who cares if 50 million people vote that don't really care or just 30 million educated smart people vote? Don't guilt trip idiots into voting.

  • Where did the contrast go? Apparently you don't have to choose between shadows and highlights anymore... everything can be seen without having to sacrifice shadows or brights.... but in a way it looks kind of weird... like everything can be exposed perfectly... windows aren't blown out in interiors and shadows cease becoming shadows. It looks bizarre with ALL of the frame perfectly exposed.

AND most of the footage is underexposed. The day shots don't look brite at all.

  • My eyes aren't high enough res to be watching this

  • does anyone know the name of song in the begining?

  • What is the movie/commercial/short film at 4:57!?

  • Comment removed

  • MFEST?

  • song at 350?

  • I can do anything - I was in a boyband, ok? ... HaHa! Make sure you watch that reel to the very end!

  • Who is the woman at 0: 25?

  • 6.46

  • "Are u waiting for me to take of my bra?? Because im not wearing one!!"

    lol

  • This is the best RED ONE footage I have seen so far. The naturalness of colors, the sharpness, and of course the professional cut and all the rest of it - but it's unbelievable as before, you needed a 200k Sony camera that was stationary, now you have the same quality with a camera you can held in your hand. If that's not a revolution in itself ...!

  • 1.41 = gorgeous shot!

  • Ha! Spielberg (Mr. Anti-Digital himself) shooting on the RED! Love it!

  • What's the music?

  • I may sound like a complete IDIOT! but does it auto focus while filming, or do you need to manually focus? :P

  • @speedomike747

It's a professional movie camera... Everything is manual.

  • @witblitsfilm You can get use to that? cuz I have the money but I dont want to be out of focus all the time :P

  • @speedomike747 same question too

  • can I have the same quality in THE BOOK OF ELI or not?

  • @NathanCipher THE BOOK OF ELI was shot with this camera!

  • Yes, I'm fine.

  • What is 4:58 ?

  • What is the movie at 4:57, the sci fi looking one, and the movie after with Rob Schneider?

  • The red one's image looks very appealing, 4k resolution - very nice, must be great for visual effects work. I would love to shoot a short with this. damn it. lol

  • ohhhhhhh so very sexily sharply clear

  • tom cruise is almost as tall as will

    smith in this vid

  • Oh, Tom Cruise, get off the apple box.

  • @RipleyisBA HAHA......u nut, does that mean he is short!

  • EXCELENT!!

  • what is the movie at 3:11 ?

  • where is the guy in the "space suit" form at 4:47 to 5:03 ?

  • @MrKontjo Do you know yet? ;)

I'd like to know as well.

  • really beautiful

  • the red does not equal great filmmaking. if you suck with a consumer cam, you'll suck with any camera regardless of price. The sooner noobs realize this the better off they'll be instead of trying to sell everything they own just to rent one of these cams.

  • this is a really good red showreel!

  • Who is the girl 25 seconds in? What's that shot taken from?

  • Que bueno!!

  • Amazing. Engineers are gods.

  • @Mindwreckful brilliant, and the people at Red are DEMIGODS!

  • This showreel is really misleading in some cases. Because the clips you see, are straigt out of a movie, commercial or music video that already have being through post production to look as best as possible. Think about color corecction, effects and etc.

  • @MrShott13 But it is the craft of film-making combined with the camera that is so exceptional. Thanks for your comment!

  • @DarrenMarkDarko

I half agree with MrShott13 and half with DerrenMarkDarko

Along with the DP, Director, and musical composer, only then magic is made, a camera is just a tool. How well designed that tool is, is what will make it stand apart from others in terms of actual use during production, the image it produces is mearly an image that is crafted from the key people I meantioned above in the beginning of this paragraph.

I understand there's great hype with Red, I have yet to use one.

  • @StuartHaight Trust me Stuart, it's not hype. I own and use a RED One (and I only have the old sensor, not the new MX sensor). Yes a tool is only as good as the craftsman, but there is a huge difference in quality between the RED and say, Hi-definition video. The picture characteristics are completely different to the video based formats and truly "filmic", if you want to put a label on it. That and 4500 X 2304 resolution make a huge difference.

  • @StuartHaight The proof is in the pudding as well. Big studios do not lay out good money on trusting their films to unproven technology. You may be aware that the following films were all shot with the Red One: Book of Eli (Denzel Washington) District 9 (Peter Jackson) Knowing (Nic Cage) Jumper (Christian Hayden) Gamer (Gerard Butler) Skyline Social Network (David Fincher) Che (Steven Soderbergh) The Informant (Matt Damon) Pirates of the Caribbean - On Stranger Tides (Johnny Depp) - filming
  • @witblitsfilm I literally ran out of text to write (due to youtube's 450 character limit). So unfortunately my comment ended in a tone that meant something else. I guess I used the word hype incorrectly. I would love to get my hands on one of those, that's generally what I meant to say. I have yet to use one, as I work my way up the ladder, I may be able to be 1st or 2nd assistant camera soon for one of those soon.

Are you using an online/offline workflow in post? Avid or FCP?

  • @StuartHaight Hi Stuart. I have had mine for about 3 weeks now and am still working out all the details! My post experiments to date have been online: Taking the 4K raw footage and down-rezzing to 2K Apple PRORES 4444 and editing in FCP. I have a high end newer Imac which copes with this quite well, but it's not ideally geared for online, as you can well imagine! Off-line is the best route to follow if you have a lower end machine of course but I still need to explore that route.

  • @StuartHaight : The most efficient route to follow (apparently) is using the QT proxies generated in camera for offline edits then at the end of the day, re-conform using the 4K full-res files. Apparently (and I don't know enough about this yet), Apple Colour happily ingests the RED 4K R3D files for your final grading. According to RED's website, there is full support across multiple platforms, primairly Premiere, FCP , AVID, Vegas and now STORM from the foundry too.

    Man I hate these limits!

  • @StuartHaight I will hopefully have some examples up on youtube soon for your viewing. I am starting an independent feature shortly as well as a music video in December, so should have some of that footage up soon.

  • @witblitsfilm While I may not have mastered this workflow, I've practiced using online DNx175x (equivilent to ProRes 422 HQ), and using DNx36 as the offline (a 36mbps HD format).

If you nail down this online/offline workflow, you can take your offline media (some form of ProRes or DV?) on a decent powered laptop, edited to your hearts desire anywhere, and when you're done, 're-link' to the higher res format for the 4K export. (can FCP export 4K? Avid MC can't unless it's in a DS system)

  • @StuartHaight Woops just read the other comment, I forgot about the proxy mov files. Those are there to make life easier. Hit the forums they will def. have your questions answered in that department.

I'm personally very much an Avid person, but I'm learning FCP at school, my only gripe is when you're actually editing, trimming, whatever, it's just slower, even with my keyboard mapped like Avid it's not the same... whatever that's a different topic I'm trying to learn both it's just a pain.

  • @StuartHaight Yeah those Quicktime proxies are nifty... generated automatically as you shoot a clip. You can adjust all sorts of settings on them to tailor your workflow. But as I say, it's only 3 weeks now and I still need to get my act together around a proper workflow that doesn't involve transcoding 4K full rez files each time I want a clip!

The problem is, the camera is too much fun to play around with and preview on 1080P TV to be bothered with workflow issues right now!

  • @MrShott13 Well, that is true of any footage you see from any camera. If you looked at the raw dailies (positive contact print) of the footage off a film camera negative, you'd be pretty appalled by the lack of colour, contrast etc. Film is generally lit and shot low contrast purposely to preserve detail in the shadow and highlights. The contrast/colour saturation (grading) are added back later by the colourist purposely.

Trust me, the RED one has UNBELIEVABLE quality... I own and use one.

  • @MrShott13

I think you may be missing the point, this is giving people the chance to express themeselves within a medium which is usually reserved for a mega bucks industry. Film-making is expensive but it needn't be now!

Independent cinema will always shine through and the Red company knows this.

Is it wrong to love a machine? I think I may be falling in love with the Scarlet!

    Awesomness personified!

  • @DarrenMarkDarko ya because 30 k is cheap right!

  • @MrShott13 your point is pointless

  • @MrShott13

Its a showreel. Why would you show untreated footage?

  • @MrShott13 The intention of a showreel is really to advertise something, (be ita cinematographer, actor, director, or even a camera). It is a commercial. It has to show post-processed footage from movies, commercials or music videos, because it's comparing itself to film and film camera companies, who also show movies, commercials and music videos in their showreels. Search for Kodaktube, you'll see what I mean. That is who RED are now competing with. You can see their post processed showreels.

  • @typaxa

But it doesn't mean it still misleading. For instance, you buy a new sports/super car. At the dealer ship the sales man tells you that the car has a maximum speed of 200mph. But because of certain regulations the cars speed has te be nerfed down to 150mph. So you think you are buying a car that goes 200mhp but in the end it goes only 150mph.

  • Wonderful!

  • 3:53 which movie is that from??

  • did scarlet say: "are you just waiting me to take out my bra?, cos i'm not wearing one... omfg... i lost my control when she said that.

  • just keep remembering that the director/camera operator makes the footage, the camera just records it :)

  • Scarlet, where's the RED Scarlet?

  • Anyone know what the scene at 4:59 is from?

  • Justin Timberlake: I can do anything...I was in a boy band, okay?! LOL

  • How much does the camera cost?

  • @KingOfPampers 17,500 body only, its all on red {dot} com

    go to their store

  • this is by far the best red one camera showreel ever!

  • @fiq000s It's pretty kick ass, love the quality of those pictures!!

  • @fiq000s Indeed you are correct...can't wait for the Scarlet...

  • Great video, the end is classic lol

  • I can't find anything about the scarlett on internet that hasn't been written in 2009 or less. Have you got some news about its unleashing ? Nice vid by the way

  • @loldevil666 Yeah Red are currently sorting out a HDR mode on the camera, hence the delay. Good things comes to those who wait!

  • @DarrenMarkDarko i rather think the hdslr models kinda fucked up red's plan - the original scarlet wasnt that much different from a nikon d90 - the first hdslr. if they wouldnt have been thrown in the market - i bet we would have our hands on the scarlet right now

  • @loldevil666

    Scarlet is dead

  • Scarlett Johansen should never be aloud to be in a Red One sample video!

It messes up my search for Red Scarlett sample vids. =)

  • @Joni0001984 hahahahah same here!

  • who cares I was enjoying all the high-def footage.

  • @jesh00 great comment, I'm completely in awe of digital cinema. I'm salivating at the thought of having the Scarlet this year, time to start making some excellent films. Death to celluloid, damn right. Thanks for comment, awesomeness.

  • what is the song in the beginning?
