i am not trying to be mean to americans i mean lots of them are nice but those that are spoiled they deserve to live in a country like so and Rwandans deserve to live in america imagine that if all the people were like the people in Rwanda
There are definitely some repercussions (not to mention the horrifying physical scars); about 2/3rds of the population was displaced and essentially the majority of a generation was lost, so there are so many parent-less orphans, but churches and the government have worked hard to put them in homes than keep them on the streets or in orphanages. There are also those upset with the current government as well as local community trials to settle long-standing crimes.
But more incredible are where it has traversed from that time. The government has implemented a spiritual reconciliation program to encourage forgiveness and restoration. I spoke with adults who had taken in the same people that were responsible for the death of their family members. No one ever speaks of what tribe they belonged to because they all consider each other fellow Rwandans. Obviously, this is not the standard in every case, but forgiveness and peace are being encouraged as a response
They are beautiful, not only physically, but spiritually too. They are very happy, friendly people. The word for hello is MURAHO... and Murikoze means thank you.
I met a few survivors of the genocide yesterday and they are the most friendly people I have ever met!!! They are so innocent-looking. I watched a movie in class today and it was the Lost Boys of Sudan and picking out a handful of them coming to America! They didn't even know how do use butter or ever cross the street!
I was in Rwanda in September 2008. They are the most kind, loving people I have ever met! I was there with Compassion International. WE stayed at Hotel des Mille Colline (the REAL hotel Rwanda!) It was a fantastic trip, and I can't wait to go back again!
I'm taking a trip with my class soon to Rwanda and I just can't wait! Anything to go visit or any advice for me? I would really like to have the BEST experience when I'm there.
Try to see the genocide memorial in Butare/Huye instead of the one in Kigali, its more real. Also go to the Rosamond Halsey Carr grave, and th eorphanage she started in the Gisenyi area... read her book about her life in Rwanda too, awesome book! Eat at Chez John's if you can, in Kigali. ALso check out the marketplace, its so fun to shop there! And make sure you buy Rwandan coffee, it is delicious! Most of all, relax, Rwandan time is much slower than USA time.
Got it all written down! Thank you so so much! I will try to visit as many of those places as possible! I've heard that the more time you spend there the more you want to stay! I will probably try to go back every year! I actually have had Rwandan coffee ad yes, it most certainly IS delicious :) Thanks again!
I loved this. After the genocide and knowing how many children were left orphaned it was a miracle to not see that reflected on the faces of those that are left. It made my heart hopeful. Thank you for sharing.

a question for the maker of this vid: how much of the 94' horror can still be seen now? are the scars still visible?

Don't worry about trying to be comfortable, be up for anything. There's so many amazing stories and people to encounter if you let yourself.

Beautiful. These people have beauty in their faces. It's in their eyes and their smiles--the beauty of humility and graciousness. I'm in awe.
