This is an optical illusion caused by the movement of the helicopter and the fact that the camera is zoomed in - it's a similar principle behind the motion-control cameras used in old sci-fi movies such as Star Wars to make stationary model ships appear to fly past.
What is real and what is not is the question, I have seen a really big UFO up close and watched as it did things no plane or helicopter could even get close to doing. If you are lucky enough to see what I saw you will never doubt again. I was with a friend and it still frightens him and he will not talk about it. I believe in UFO's, but this is NOT a UFO. Its a military jet on maneuvers dropping flares. A few clues to tell this: First, the bottom left of the screen is the chopper's direction (roughly 80'... almost due east). That is the same direction as Tewntynine Palms Marine base. It's the primary base for the Marines to conduct live fire exercises. Besides, I have seen jets before through a FLIR dropping flares, and that's what THIS is. sorry guys

As for myth busters solving things ..UFO and ET are far beyond their chance at ever getting a shot at proving...however I am in a very good position to get proof..and I will..with one or more of my close encounters on HD 1080 video proof..when the chance arrives.

@emaculate Candle Wax i think is what they used ,its being recorded on"Forward Looking Infrared Radar" [heat sensing]. I'm not an expert but it looks identical to what they reproduced on their TV show. Once it burns out it starts falling and rotating until they lose it. Hard to tell if the Helos moving the cams panning or its being blown or a combo of all three. We are being visited but FLIR wont prove it.

1:42 is a great image of the falling blob slightly twinkling. This implies that it's energy is irregular, reminiscent of the flame on a candle as it varies in brightness; or any type of fire for that matter. I do believe those are flares coming from a helicopter through an out-of-focus camera in a near infrared spectrum.

Police Helicopters are equipped with an infrared camera located on the bottom portion of the helicopter. In order to catch this "UFO" flying through the air, the helicopter would have to be upside down.
@Atlbraves28 At the time of this video, Long Beach Police had two brand new EC130 helicopter's. The FLIR's are mounted on the bottom front of the helicopters, so the underbelly would not obstruct a horizontal view looking directly forward.
@Atlbraves28 If you go to Wikipedia and enter EC130 helicopter, you'll get a high res photo of an actual Long Beach PD helicopter. Take a look, and you'll see that the FLIR is mounted on an inverted platform right at the very front of the helicopter just under the nose. The nose is clear plexiglass, and is angled in a way for the FLIR to still get an excellent vertical perspective, even up into the sky.
@Atlbraves28 LOL, Oh yes it can! I've seen the EC130 with its FLIR pod in person. That FLIR camera is on a servo mechanism that allows it to move in all directions with a joy stick inside the chopper. The object that they're viewing (not the chase on the ground) isn't more than 30 degrees above the horizon. The way the FLIR is mounted on the inverted platform in the front gives it a clear shot to view whatever that object is.
I really wanted to shoot missiles at it but knowing by doing that will decrease the chance or possibility of uncovering the secrets behind these occurrences. If we could just zoom a little more.....Also, what if it's really a UFO and they decided to take wars on earth, We'd be in trouble. If you truly believe that the UFO phenomenon is happening, then you have to be open to the possibility that some are caused by Chinese Lanterns, nature or somethng mundane. That being said, if a proper investigation is done and finds that this is one of those cases where it is something explainable, some UFO cases in the past have been found to drop something called slag material. It has been recovered and found to be ordinary metals. Read Valle & Hynek if you are really interested in UFOs.
This is not a lantern dripping wax it's imposible. what kind of candle drips wax that is on fire that can drop down from sky hundreds of feet without extinguishing and please explain the amount of stuff that falling down from it. from the distance at wich this was filmed this would be gallons upon gallons of material. no candel creates that amount of wax in that short of time.

Seen lanterns do all sorts in the air, they're so light they get blown all over the place and in high winds at fair speed - even sideways, loads of clips on youtube showing that.
Finally look at the camera data on the bottom of the movie, this shows field of view and angle with respect to the helicopter. When zoomed in objects seem to be moving extremely fast common trick of the eye I'm affriad especially since you cannot see the ground or any reference objects.

Actually I thought for sure this was just a chinese lantern myself at first...either that or an owl with really bad diareha LOL! but when it moves off at high speed you can see quite easily background reference objects. Look at the hills behind it, if these are not good reference objects then I dont know what is.

With the Hills AS REFERENCE the "lantern" DOES appear to be traveling at a REMARKABLE speed. Now the ultimate speed a Lantern can move at is equal to the speed of the air...watch the last few seconds and tell me if this appears to be air moving it. It appears to be traveling @ hundreds of MPH!
there are some good clues here. 1. it was christmas, could mean something. 2. there was material from it all over the groung. how come getting as much air time as this video has, no one we know has analyzed the material and come forward to say whether its toxic or not, or if its a hoax. we got nothing about it. thats very strange behavior considering the event involved a heavy populated area.

Police Helicopters are equipped with an infrared camera located on the bottom portion of the helicopter. In order to catch this "UFO" flying through the air, the helicopter would have to be upside down.

@Atlbraves28 At the time of this video, Long Beach Police had two brand new EC130 helicopter's. The FLIR's are mounted on the bottom front of the helicopters, so the underbelly would not obstruct a horizontal view looking directly forward.

@Atlbraves28 If you go to Wikipedia and enter EC130 helicopter, you'll get a high res photo of an actual Long Beach PD helicopter. Take a look, and you'll see that the FLIR is mounted on an inverted platform right at the very front of the helicopter just under the nose. The nose is clear plexiglass, and is angled in a way for the FLIR to still get an excellent vertical perspective, even up into the sky.

@Atlbraves28 LOL, Oh yes it can! I've seen the EC130 with its FLIR pod in person. That FLIR camera is on a servo mechanism that allows it to move in all directions with a joy stick inside the chopper. The object that they're viewing (not the chase on the ground) isn't more than 30 degrees above the horizon. The way the FLIR is mounted on the inverted platform in the front gives it a clear shot to view whatever that object is.

While I would like to believe this is real, I'd like to point out that when people say it's a UFO, all they are saying is that it's an unidentified flying object, not an alien spacecraft. Since it is indeed a UFO, someone, if they took the time and resources, might be able to figure out that it is indeed something completely terrestrial. I'm not saying that it is, only that when ppl say UFO it doesnt mean its extraterrestrial.

I have seen the same thing in November of 09 about 2miles from from Philadelphia international airport. It was about 2:30 2:45 am.Behind ny house about a half a mile maybe a mile..
At first it looked kike fireworks just starting to fall then it stop's and turned east. I only know the direction because the airport runs east to west about 2 miles behind my home

If you truly believe that the UFO phenomenon is happening, then you have to be open to the possibility that some are caused by Chinese Lanterns, nature or somethng mundane. That being said, if a proper investigation is done and finds that this is one of those cases where it is something explainable, some UFO cases in the past have been found to drop something called slag material. It has been recovered and found to be ordinary metals. Read Valle & Hynek if you are really interested in UFOs.

This is not a lantern dripping wax it's imposible. what kind of candle drips wax that is on fire that can drop down from sky hundreds of feet without extinguishing and please explain the amount of stuff that falling down from it. from the distance at wich this was filmed this would be gallons upon gallons of material. no candel creates that amount of wax in that short of time.

@frenchcannuck After watching this I'm reminded of the many videos after 9-11 showing how metal melts under the heat of Semtex... all those videos of buildings coming down and the metal core melting... looks similiar. There shoulda been physical evidence left behind on the ground where it hit... which the police have the exact coordinates from the gps systems and cameras.... so wheres the evidence. Hmmmm :)

Yeah I agree...up until that point everything seemed to indicate a Chinese Lantern...even the weird substance falling out of it...(C.L.s often catch fire and start to disintigrate)....but it REALLY DOES seem to shoot off at the end...Id normaly say it was just the camera moving..but U can see the background hills...I suppose it could be a perspective thing...but, it sure doesnt appear that way..it appears like the thing shoots off at a speed not consistent with wind (except hurricanes) LOL weird

I have made one of these! It didn't get this much attention, or this far off the ground, but looked EXACTLY like this "ufo".
Garbage bag, a few helium balloons, Styrofoam ring and birthday candles. I recommend a thin wire, rather than string, to hold it together. Mine burned and flipped sideways and lit up quickly, dripping all over the neighborhood.

Yes a friend and I made somethig like this too, but we used 23 ballons with helium, nylon and a piece of red flare, the kind the police use everytime there is a car accident, it lasted 10 minutes and it drop some stuff too, just like this one,Now it is VERY ILLEGAL to do this on a city, due to a confilct with air trafic or a possible jet injestion of one of this, so if this is your plan? do it like on this video... looks like in the midle of a desert.

I live in a fairly rural area, but for best results you do need witnesses. I saw an orange and white balloon ufo cruising over Victoria BC last summer, never heard anyone getting in trouble.

they are useing the earth to plant their crops or sometingelse then they come and collect it they always come to the same spot over n over again ive witnessed this in the mountains of the blacksea north of turkey over the mountains me n my brother obsereved it but we didnt have any camcorders them years which is 1981 1982 n also there were always cigar shaped ones above the sky always appeared in the same spot n we cud feel their presence in the woods arter dark animals leave the area even bugs

Hi..I have to agree..that..I can feel when there are crafts in the area too..I have had numerous close encounters and..over time...I now sense them before I can see them.
There is no sounds from these crafts..though they can travel many miles in a fraction of a second.
When one arrives at the lake I am at..EVERYTHING falls silent..the animals..the bugs..nothing makes noise.
It does cause the adrenaline to flow..knowing that they are not from here.
Once gone..things slowly turn back to normal.

Wax candle glo-lantern.
FLIR picking up the heat, wax is dropping from the candle as the air rocks the lantern in the air.
When hot wax finishes it stops the heat and the lantern dimishes.
Should have used their optical cameras instead.

Seen lanterns do all sorts in the air, they're so light they get blown all over the place and in high winds at fair speed - even sideways, loads of clips on youtube showing that.
Finally look at the camera data on the bottom of the movie, this shows field of view and angle with respect to the helicopter. When zoomed in objects seem to be moving extremely fast common trick of the eye I'm affriad especially since you cannot see the ground or any reference objects.

Actually I thought for sure this was just a chinese lantern myself at first...either that or an owl with really bad diareha LOL! but when it moves off at high speed you can see quite easily background reference objects. Look at the hills behind it, if these are not good reference objects then I dont know what is.

@jonhumself77 I would agree with everything you have said, and they were my thoughts exactly....UNTIL I saw the end of the video...there you can plainly and clearly see the background hills. With the Hills AS REFERENCE the "lantern" DOES appear to be traveling at a REMARKABLE speed. Now the ultimate speed a Lantern can move at is equal to the speed of the air...watch the last few seconds and tell me if this appears to be air moving it. It appears to be traveling @ hundreds of MPH!

there are some good clues here. 1. it was christmas, could mean something. 2. there was material from it all over the groung. how come getting as much air time as this video has, no one we know has analyzed the material and come forward to say whether its toxic or not, or if its a hoax. we got nothing about it. thats very strange behavior considering the event involved a heavy populated area.
