I never really liked Shu Qi.

Cantonese has a lot of tones (dont' remember how much.. i think more than 9)

as for mandarin there's only 4 tones..

So if you say teh word "BA" there would be 4 different ways of saying it..and each tone would be a different word.

Go check out a HK movie in cantonese and compare it yourself.

i forgot to add that other than it sounding different the writing is exactly the same thing. Think of it as pronouncing the words differently for mandarin and cantonese..but writing wise its the same
