@mrkiky That used to be true because nickel was the main thing used to provide corrosion resistance, but many modern tool steels (many of which are stainless) are just as good as high carbon steel.
@mrkiky S30V,S60v,S90V,ZDP189,154CM,20CV are the ones I can name off the top of my head and I know I'm missing some. Admittedly S90V is usually considered too brittle for making knives S30V,ZDP189,and 154CM are fairly popular for knives.
D2 is a tool steel ... that's what road crews use when they are grading your roads; no stainless in that lot.
