WTF at 3:35 Peter gets nailed with a headkick and jab! When I first found out my favorite fighter ever fought Peter Aerts ( I am more of an mma guy) I was like wow I thought Aerts would have won. I have known of Peter and his highlights long before I began a Cro Cop fan. So I thought for sure Aerts won. Imagine my suprise watching this and how Cro Cop just picks him apart!
I always loved mirko, but despite being a smart and funny guy, he was such an unimaginative fighter, and always relied on power moves to win him a fight, hence the highlight reels. I don't know if he's just not a talented fighter, or he's the type of guy who never gets over the pressure of a huge crowd watching him and can't have fun out there, or what the hell is the problem, but I guess not everyone can be like sakuraba.

I doubt he'd get very far, with all the college wrestlers around these days. I mean, most of them can't fight at any decent level, but they don't need to to win.

I personally think that Mirko never achieved his full potential, by studiyng his style he never used the thai clinch to deliever devastating knees elbows or dirtyboxing in although it was not allowed in K1 i can understand. But why he didnt in mma i dont know why he didnt use the clinch, takedowns being a monster striker his ground and pound would be devastating and at last he never really used his BJJ making people fear him, I mean think of it the guy up was best so down he would be the best!
@memento18poker I havn't seen him lately but he is a money fighter and he said once: winning a tournement is not the goal for him. He has to fight a lot and he can't afford to get injured because that costs him money . Mirco and aerts have been very very good at this ( for me 2 of the best k 1 fighters )

@Sjamsucks his technique is what it needs to be for mma,not kickboxing.Anderson silva would do very well in thaiboxing and lots of bjj world champs and even some judo champs in mma.Generally though you dont need to be great at any particular area,look at fedor ,hes not elite grappling nor striking but incredible at the combination

Here he defeats andy hug, he defeated Remy Bonjasky and Le Banner to name a few. When he went to mma he was so dominant because he was above everyone else in the striking department. He loses now because he's old, doesn't train like he used to and is not as fast as he once was.
@dss103 Um yes it does. In UFC or most MMA organizations, they do not have any tournaments or anything close to that nature. In a K1 Grand Prix, they have to fight multiple times in one night. Many battle injuries along the way (broken ribs, shattered arm,etc..). These fighters don't fight for the money. If they did, then they got into the wrong profession. These men fight because they want to. It's a passion, not just a job.
@JacobHLee95 tournament fighting is a flawed system although it does speak to the heart and determination of the fighters involved it also causes inconsistencies such as one fighter having a tough long fight then losing to a lower caliber fighter who had an easy time in there fight. in one sense a tournament means more in the sense that it takes more out of you, but on the other hand it just doesn't prove who the best truly is.

Peter Aerts is one of teh best kickboxers and you were saying Chuck could knock him out? compared to MMA fighters stand up, he is god. Shane Carwin was going to fight for the heavyweight title... for 15grand to show and double to win! He has a full time job, how can you be the best fighter in the world when you have to train after work? More money = more competition = more talent. Give mma more time to evolve. The ufc holds mma back.
at the moment UFC is actually helping MMA but once MMA gets a really deep talent pool they will be holding MMA back and hopefully they will pay fighters more and use copromotion.
Dereksag.. well I disagree with you there! I don't think the UFC is helping at all. They are purposely trying to put other organizations out of business holding a monopoly on North American MMA. Which in turn keeps purses small, stops ranking systems from being in place and allows the company to take advantage of the fighters because they have no where to go. I can't think of one good thing the UFC has done for MMA that another promotion wouldn't have done as well.
Globalizing MMA? yeah UFC isnt helping MMA in North America but worldwide Strikeforce cant come in and sell out shows in UK or Australia. when/if MMA becomes global, then ranking systems and Cross promoting will matter because by then MMA will have a talent pool so deep UFC cant have a monopoly on the best fighters. UFC isnt hurting MMA quite yet.
Problem is with the low purses the talent pool isn't getting deeper, not too mention with only one organization there isn't room to sign too many fighters with the fighting scheme they have now, each fighter would be lucky to get one match a year. As far as globalizing, MMA has been in other countries longer than it has been in North America so although the UFC sells out in some of these places they aren't the first to cross borders.

Here he defeats andy hug, he defeated Remy Bonjasky and Le Banner to name a few. When he went to mma he was so dominant because he was above everyone else in the striking department. He loses now because he's old, doesn't train like he used to and is not as fast as he once was.

@dss103 Um yes it does. In UFC or most MMA organizations, they do not have any tournaments or anything close to that nature. In a K1 Grand Prix, they have to fight multiple times in one night. Many battle injuries along the way (broken ribs, shattered arm,etc..). These fighters don't fight for the money. If they did, then they got into the wrong profession. These men fight because they want to. It's a passion, not just a job.

@JacobHLee95 tournament fighting is a flawed system although it does speak to the heart and determination of the fighters involved it also causes inconsistencies such as one fighter having a tough long fight then losing to a lower caliber fighter who had an easy time in there fight. in one sense a tournament means more in the sense that it takes more out of you, but on the other hand it just doesn't prove who the best truly is.

Shane Carwin was going to fight for the heavyweight title... for 15grand to show and double to win! Dereksag.. well I disagree with you there! I don't think the UFC is helping at all. They are purposely trying to put other organizations out of business holding a monopoly on North American MMA. Which in turn keeps purses small, stops ranking systems from being in place and allows the company to take advantage of the fighters because they have no where to go. I can't think of one good thing the UFC has done for MMA that another promotion wouldn't have done as well.

Globalizing MMA? yeah UFC isnt helping MMA in North America but worldwide Strikeforce cant come in and sell out shows in UK or Australia. when/if MMA becomes global, then ranking systems and Cross promoting will matter because by then MMA will have a talent pool so deep UFC cant have a monopoly on the best fighters. Problem is with the low purses the talent pool isn't getting deeper, not too mention with only one organization there isn't room to sign too many fighters with the fighting scheme they have now, each fighter would be lucky to get one match a year. As far as globalizing, MMA has been in other countries longer than it has been in North America so although the UFC sells out in some of these places they aren't the first to cross borders.

@Legendahrvata09 and peter was in his prime ? peter was in his prime in the 90ties where he dominated k1 completely for 2 years , after that it was deseases and injuries , tell me , who won 14 fights in a row besides peter ? no one , who is known as the thoughest kickboxer of the world of the 20th century , who has the most powerfull high kick in the world ? thats right , peter aerts , i have no idea how old you are , but he had won the k1 twice before turning 25 , lets see you do that big shot!
