If the Claytor brothers were still alive, they probably would've kept it going. But since they passed on, no one stood up for the existance of the steam program, and they shut it down.
All I can say is accept it, and move on. Nothing to still be mad at them for. Besides, there's a shot that it may make a comeback, albeit in a similar way to how Union Pacific operates theirs.
