Technically, a NES is DC. The only AC part is the rectifier(inside the console). But a Famicom has no on-board rectifier(it's in the power brick) so if you are a beginner get a Famicom.
mrgreanjeans is correct! circut bending has alot of uses expecially in music. not pointless at all unless you dont think outa the box. how elese are u gona get a patchbay synth without spending 20k? and the guy that says "noise bands" wont be reambered in history is retarded. what the fuk u think pinkfloyd is or throbbing grissel? fuk a therman is basically a tone generator with 2 ocalators and 60's rock used them like crazy. u r making statements about something u dont understand!
sub culture?circuit bending has been used in many mainstream music.you obviously have no real musical interest if you think circuit bending is pointless.for 5.00 i can take a keyboard that was destined for the landfill and turn it into a 800.00 or more synth, that i couldnt have afforded to go out and buy.i also can modify a toy and get a sound that i couldnt have produced on any other instrument.experimentation breeds new forms of music, but i guess that is all just pretty colors to you.

You make the mistake of thinking all experimentation leads somewhere fruitful. Most experimentation dead-ends, like circuit bending has. It has made no important contributions to music. "Noise bands" will not be remembered in history.
You're not a genius just because people don't understand you. Move on.
You know what? These freak images of a bent Nintendo 8 bit were seen before... remember when the console was turned on for more than 2 hours? Nintendos are all natural born BENT. They were always generating freak images, characters shaped as numbers, weird backgrounds, and sometimes, non-sense bugged stages. LOL
ive been doing this for about 20 years and u have to metodicly write dwn each effect and pwr lvls that r going thru, ec. differnt pwr lvls same contact diffrnt effect.
I don't think anyone who does this kinda stuff gives a fuck about what you say. I'm having fun doing this stuff, and any stupid comment you make can't change that.
this may sound silly, but i'm just getting into bending. i'm wondering what safety precaustions you take when you bend AC powered deviced rather than battery powered.
The NES has a little power adaptor which changes the AC current into a low voltage DC current. This is quite safe, though still take precautions, and don't try bending any power boards, or touch anything with your hands.
It is, though the NES has an external power adaptor which converts the AC high voltage (230v-ish) into a low voltage DC current which the Nintendo can use (12v-ish). This makes it relatively safe for you to bend.
Naw, I was just taking apart the camera while it was shooting and edited the interesting footage. It is fun to mess with the Audio/Video jacks though...
@chadraines hey i have an idea about what you could circuit bend. do you know neopets? the electronic ones? they came in about 2002. yes you should circuit bend that.
hey. awesome informative vid, i just want to know, how dangerous is touching the inside of a live console? i mean i was bending my mega drive and got away with it, but was really worried the whole time. you seem to be getting along just fine, is there anything i should know before i start on the nes? cheers in advance x
Heres a fun Idea. Take two games and connect the "PINS" of each game to the input "PINS" on the Console. Maybe you can get Double Dragon music "PINS" and the Adventure Island game "PINS" or some other cool glitch.

It is a colossal waste of time because the nintendo doesn't need to be bent to screw up like that. Didn't you ever OWN one of these Yugos of the gameworld?
lol so at the start of the vid you said have ur buddy kick you if you stick? usually people don't say this ahhahaha are you speaking from experience, funny but dangerous lol
nice video. it should be mentioned for new poeple that wiring a trim pot of the same value with a potentiomter can be used to introduce a small amount of constant resistance so the pot wont crash no matter how far you turn it. mess with the trimmer until its just right then wire it in series with the pot.
Why... O why do all the fucking stupid ass comments come from the USA ?? People try too hard to "make a point". Those who say this is pointless, try bending something and just relax. Not everything has to be logical.

can you do this with a super nintendo without it being dangerous

Generally the answer is no as it is a mains powered device.

If you're just using points on the video chip, probably not. However, I have found several bends that do effect sound in some weird ways.
