pretty sure she didn't breath that entire aria!!! i am pretty sure there was not a single breath taken in this aria...therefore i rule that this woman is ridiculous on all accounts and shall be put on a high pedistal....
actually, if I had posted the complete mad scene, you would have seen that Devia has to climb through all those coffins behind her... it is rediculous. But IMO still not as bad as the Paris production in 1995.. that takes the cake as the worst Lucia again IMO.
Whilst agreeing with Meltzerboy that all the elements are present for a great performance and also admiring Devia's obvious commitment to the role, I fail to be moved. I am not entirely sure why this should be so but suspect that the reason lies in the Director's vision for this Lucia. Must give this more thought !!
Great singing as always from the Diva and many thanks for posting.
For some reason, I've always preferred Devia's singing of the Mad Scene to that of the first-act aria. She undergoes a complete transformation into the character of Lucia here. The ornaments are fully expressive and not merely for show. A great piece of vocal acting. Thanks, coloraturafan, for sharing!
she's a machine!!!! extraordinary technique......DEVIA - luv, luv, luv =)

Devia is superb, but I can see why the production was notorious.
