@mestido I intend to, thanks. Next clip should be up Saturday. Vote is still up on topic. Visit the Facebook-page if you are interested in participating in the vote.
I've never like sub games but I'm even more sick of all these so called Free to Play games that used to have subscriptions. They've now turned into pay to win games that pretty much make the game unplayable at a competitive level if you don't pay real money. It's sickening really. I think GW's marketing method is the most honest way of making money. If you like the game, you by expansions and you keep the game alive.
@leongradoazz You can also support the game by buying the cosmetic items you like from the cashshop. I plan to, both because I want to support them but also because I like a lot of the ideas behind them. The GW1-game for instance had this fantastic costumes that my characters still wear all the time.
Developer creates an expansion ,we buy the expansion & they (of coz) are rewarded with money. While subscription ; we give them money anyways, expecting regular expansion. I feel kinda strange... dunno what ...
One thing that sets off alarm bells for me. Steam. They recently had a GW1 promotion going off on Steam, great. Then we here Elder Scrolls (a single player offline game) must be registered on Steamworks first for you to be able to play it. I hope with Plaync launcher they avoid taking that route for a DRM as there are as many who will not touch Steam no matter what as those that do. I won't be purchasing anything that requires Steam or Origin
@BogusDudeGW And GW2 won't require that I am sure. I have never bought anything through Steam and never will, and NCSoft has a massive distribution-base outside Steam, meaning they can't cripple/limit themselves to that sort of hampering restrictions.
@SagelikeOne yeh i'm sure your right, but if you follow the progression of steamworks its getting disturbing for us gamers, you no longer own your game you just buy a licence to play it. A discrepancy in one game can mean your entire library of games being deleted and you being blocked from playing any of them again, scary.
@BogusDudeGW Yes, and while MMOs have always been like that, a lot of other games don't need to be, and both TB and Yahtzee have covered this in their blogs/clips. It is a way to kill used games (Jim is on this too, come to think of it) and it is a shame I feel.
@SagelikeOne yeh for many single player games cheating is regarded as acceptable, preferably after completing it properly, i'm thinking games like GTA, C&C, Championship Manager etc imagine using a GTA cheat and finding yourself blocked from your MMO of choice. Not good.
RE marketing; Again i hope your right, GW2 has been getting as good as it gets reviews in all the gamesconns and magazines and i hope they make the investment on some serious advertising on tv and game shops, no gw exp got any
@BogusDudeGW I can't see how a project this size could NOT get mass advertisement. GW1 was a trial-run for this, in that respect. However, it is premature to go out with ads now "Try the new epic GW2! When - we don't know! What will it cost - not determined! What will you need to run it - we're not done with that bit yet!" - that's not a very good ad is it. :)
while their business model is spot on their marketing is at the bottom of the pile, very clueless about that, trying to get the declining social media resources to do all the work for you isn't enough.
btw i like the little Sorrows Furnace clip you had in there looks cool
@BogusDudeGW They have no marketing up for the game since it has no release yet. Using us grassroots to do some heavy lifting initially makes sense, and then do the broad marketing when they near release saves money and effort, and draws in the right kind of people first; the fans, then the curious, then the hangers-on.
something i've noticed from F2P games that sucks is they don't give you the full access to everything the game offers unless you opt for the monthly fee. i'm a long time City of Heroes player and since they've started offering F2P, which i've been playing, i've been cut off from ways i made ingame money and end game content. even the ways to customize your character in CoH with the invention system has been cut off. which is why i'm looking forward to GW2. i have GW1 and love their F2P system
I rated this video as liked because, first it is broken down and presented very clear and precise. Second, of all the videos about GW2 this is the only one I have seen on this subject. Good job.
In GW you could kind of buy power - well more like buy time with the skill and pvp access kits. But in GW2 they alrready said this will not be the case since in sPvP you have all skills and all gear upgrades right from the start.
SO I don't fear the slightest bit that they might sell something essential to the game in the ingame shop. But I will buy stuff like Transformation Stones and character slots just to support A-Net.
WOAH thanks for reminding me man..... havent played rift in 5 months... but just remembered i didnt cancel my subscribtion :/... thats 75 bucks dead right there...
Make sure to contact them via email and explain the situation. When I did that with Aion, NCSoft gave me a full refund for the time I did not play within a day of my asking, no questions. To this day I'd defend them if anyone speaks ill of their customer service.
This game is goin to rock

That picture of seized money is just misleading - one group profits by selling an highly addictive substance, while the other just sells drugs.

@SagelikeOne For advertising, i say they show the Shatterer and at the end of the video, it would say no monthly fees xD
