Michael Stipe produced Vic's first records, and was supposed to join us here in LA for Christmas, but spent the night in Athens when Vic was admitted. He died Christmas morning at 9:57.
Anyway, tonight I sent the videos of the song on You Tube to a few friends. It's a superb inspiration. their music has traveled through time and touched many hearts, many they may never meet, but who get the incredible joy and blessing that their music, and this song in particular, has meant.
I was a good pal of Vic Chesnutt. He played with Rickie Lee Jones (I produced her 2007 album "Sermon on Exposition Boulevard") and this holiday has been poignant with Vic's passing on Christmas morning. I know I played the song for Rickie and others, and asked another singer/songwriter to cover it. It's hands down the best expression of my thoughts when I think of my fragile faith. The Lost Dogs took faith out of dogma, and made it something we could embrace.
Thanks again for honoring this truly great song. THANK YOU FOR YOUR VIDEO. You managed to capture the spirit of this song. Don't do You Tube so had to answer a lot of questions to post this, but persevered and hope it gets it to you.
My name is Lee Cantelon and am a huge fan of The Lost Dogs. When I first heard 'Breathe deep the breath of God' I found myself in tears by the following chorus. That song has remained an anthem in my head and heart for many years. I was in Athens, GA then. For some reason I thought of it tonight and visited their web site and found your contact information.
@jimmysadler i love jimmy sadler. how random that out of 7 thousand million people in this world i would see your comment here. that is SO random. what a cool God.
Verily very very well done "good and faithful servant". I can see Jesus playing this You Tube video on the BIG SCREEN on Judgement Day as he sends the sheep to his right "just head for the big sign that is singing Breathe Deep" he says with multi lingual laughter and compassion "everybody everywhere". What a massive joyous moment, people dancing and singing praise to our Graceful God who forgives all of good cheer and kind heart who loved people the best they knew how. Very very well done. Al
Oh wow!! I have looked for this song everywhere online and I can NEVER find it!! I heard this years and years ago at Centirfuge and it was on that year's CD. But after the cassette broke (a real long time ago, right? haha!) I have looked for it. I loved the video. Great job! Thanks for posting it.
Easily and readily available for $1.70 via itunes. Or better still order the c.d direct from Lost Dogs web site (please don't order an illegal copy (also very readily available). Just Google "Lost Dogs Band". They are a great bunch of musicians AKA (also known as) The Swirling Eddies, Daniel Amos, The 77s etc and solo projects Terry Scott Taylor and Mike Roe et all (and others). Also consider listening to Mark Heard, Larry Norman and Randy Stonehill, Keith Green and News Boys. Hope this helps.
Thanks. Someday I hope to redo it again with high quality photos and perhaps all my own. Then I wouldn't have to worry about copyright issues.
It does get tricky matching the nouns with an image. Like tax evader. I used a guy driving a large boat to imply he could afford it cause he wasn't paying taxes. Though it's tricky it's fun to think creatively like that.
Fabulous work, brother! A match made in heaven!

@aklamotte
Just go to a lyrics website and type in the name of the song and band. You'll get 'em that way.

It's a shame that you need to think like that - but I can sure understand...
Your creative urge came through loud and clear - I enjoyed both the song and your photo selection!
Thanks!
