I have to wonder what the drivers saw after they drove past the accident scene. The comments by some of the drivers, particularly Kanaan, seemed to indicate to me that they knew something was very wrong with Wheldon pretty early on.

Just watching the insanity of the pack racing before the crash amazes me that nobody else was killed. These guys were 3 and 4 wide constantly, just madness. RIP Dan

@senorsoupe Agreed, even drivers in NASCAR know that driving 3 or 4 (sometimes 5)wide can be risky, including on tracks like the Daytona Speedway and Talladega Speedway, though they arent going nearly as fast, they know that tapping the car ahead of them the wrong way can cause a "Big One"

@stampede122 And NASCAR cars have fenders and hoods. Don't get me wrong I am a huge Indycar fan and not a NASCAR fan but Indycars should stay on short ovals and ovals with lower banking so that they can't run in a pack, these high banked 1.5 mile ovals are just not meant for Indy cars

@senorsoupeNno IndyCar should stop racing ovals altogether with the exception of the Indy 500 as that is the marquee event of the series. Stick to racing on road courses and street circuits. These cars are not to be racing around ovals. 220mph? my gosh NASCAR only goes to like 185mph. Way too dangerous and risky in my book.

i remember listening to this on the indycar radio before it cut out shortly after the crash, i didnt find out what happened until the next day and the want to not believe what had happened.

@Rcrby525 The only rules governing the size of field is the Indy 500 format and the size of pit road. This track could have held 37 cars. The low horsepower high downforce formula is to blame for this accident.

@legoproductions1100 Brian Barnhardt was fired after this race and is "pursuing other oppurtunites" which is a nice way of saying he got kicked the fuck out of indy car. look for him at a mcdonalds somewhere in florida.
