@Mrbaltimore2001 From the standpoint of blacks it wasn't addressing the deeper problems of the inner city, shows like ROC, which were a 2nd generation of Cosby Shows filled that void. Today's shows, however, are ripe with negative portrayals. Very few have possible characters and the ones that do often just have ONE black person which gives the appearance of the person being an unqualified affirmative action hire.

@shaicapone I agree you that the show ROC and A Different World (spin off from this show) did cover deeper problems. But The Cosby Show did show many issues that african americans had to deal with also.

A lot of times we're so focus on highlighing our struggles to each other and the rest of the world, that we neglect to showcase our victories to.

Mr. Cosby did that with this show. There are black homes like this also. My aunt and uncle were the real live cosby's in the 80 and still today.
