@nilloc93 You'll miss until you get the hang of peering through an iron sight. I've consistently shot low with mine for some reason...but being able to manage the recoil was a real sense of achievement, considering I've been afraid of the .308 for awhile

@nilloc93 I wonder if eyesight is an issue. If the scope is riding high and your cheek plate can't be elevated I'd imagine the orientation of your head is going to look awkward. I was taught to learn through irons before considering a scope, so I don't own a scoped rifle yet, neither of mine are tapped or had the bolts bent for it.

8mm is bout 1/4th and inch less than 30-06 in height

@LordCAG bigger cases aren't always more powerful, it comes down to ballistics.

with the right ammo these surplus 8mm are excelent shooters. Take note the American ammo makers load the rounds light and are therefore are not that great but with Euro loads, milsur or hand loads the 8mm will perform as well as a 30.06

i have shot a german and yugo they dont have too much recoil. shot rifles with a lot more recoil. try a russian m44 carbine with 7.62 54 r. now recoil is bad with these little rifles. the m38 does too.

Just a quick question for the guys teaching her to shoot, did you have her try reloading by keeping her right hand on the rifle to balance it (She did it for a second there) then use her left hand to reach across and work the action?
