My mate works at Austal, the company that builds these boats. Apparently they do more than 40 knots - should give the drug runners something to worry about
Cool, i have been monitoring the progress of these boats, along with OPV ships been built in UK. It seems that we in Trinidad and Tobago are serious about dealing with the drug trade.
Well i could tell you that 2 out of the 3 OPVs for Trinidad & Tobago Coast Guard have been launch last week and the third should be launched around May next year, which is good news. The bad news is that we have to switch from VT to BVT Surface Fleet then Bae Systems, which causes delay and major setbacks to complete the construction of these ships on time.
1. I know its not one of those ships built by BAE, i'm just answering a question from one of the earlier comments.
2. How you could define the boats in the video that could travel up to 40 knots which is fast enough to intercept almost every small motor vessels as shitty as compare to the 25 knot speed of the OPVs?(We always like to second guess things) and
3. Are you even aware that BAE is taking the T&T Government to a arbitration court for cancelling the contract of the OPVs?
@Starjack100 well this one is about be faster its only about 200 tonnes and its only a patrol boat the port of spain class which thay was ment be getting is a corvette and it as alot better armament and also a hellicopter could land on it
yes i am aware BAE is takeing them to court and i would 2 of the ships was built when thay canceld and one was nealy built
Decided to buy the patrol boats from a UK company, and suddenly the US funding disapears.... couldn't of seen that one coming.

I think the chopper pilot went close to putting it in the drink at the end there. There was a marked change in the sound of the blades:-)

@Starjack100 I think these boats were delivered ahead of schedule. What about the OPVs - are they going according to plan?

@wiganerrmc Its not that i like the OPVs but i'm hoping that we could take at least one of them because we really need to patrol our borders.
