  • Incredible song. However if you can get the live version from the Avalon Ballroom, its probably the most intense blues you will ever hear. A much faster deeper and intensive version of this song. This version is fully satisfying as well. Guitar gods at their best all round

  • Moby Grape's Miller's Blues represents a gut-grabbing use of the hook.

  • kikk!!!!

  • lord have mercy

  • NPR's Music online scene talks about "What is a "hook" in pop songs?. One of the best hooks was in Omaha, about 1 min 30 seconds. Now THAT's a rock song's hook if I ever heard one, and it has NOTHING to do with marketing or some schlock like that. It is how fantastic music gets made by fantastic musicians.

God Bless the Grape. If ONLY someone would re-release the entirety of Sly and the Family Stone vinyl "Stand!" - the 13+ minutes of "Sex Machine" is, IMHO the way ALL babies should be made!

  • yeah!

  • Good Tune Bro Goin To The Faves Thx!!!

  • follow this with some Bloomfield and Kooper and enjoy, maybe some Paul Butterfield Blues Band, thats Valium for the ears and soul. Me happy now

  • just lay back, close your eyes, EXHALE and enjoy.

  • Jerry was a Monster lead player back in the day, Bob was a Monster bass player and Pete was a fine background guitarist.

Skip was the glue ! And with Don on drums and all of them singing and writing, their 2nd LP said it all . . ."WoW" !

  • I know jerry millers daughter i got to West seattle hs with her

  • Yes, it's fun being Rock Royalty! I'm his other daughter!:)

  • the bands first album still ranks as one of the best of the era...anyone else got the cover with jerry flippin the bird on the washboard?

  • That's Donald Stevenson, not Jerry flipping the bird. I should know, I'm Jerry's oldest daughter!:)

  • Agreed, that is Donald Stevenson

  • this bring back some great memories from the 60's my favorite band ...man they jammed Thanks for sharing this tune wow

the Filmore and all it's great glory the greatest music came out of those times

  • Thanks! What a treat-Puts a big smile on this old SF kids face

  • Does anyone know if there is an album out there with this recording of Millers Blues on it?

  • Comment removed

  • its on the Vintage compilation ...i think

    Jim

  • Er...for you to KNOW that this actually works it would mean that you died last Saturday. May you rest in peace.

  • was there in Tacoma with Beamish, greatwesternred as he styles himself here (fine musician in his own right), and i'm back now and so is Jerry, and at whiles i get to go out to divers venues around town and listen with, well, dammit, rapture, to the finest blues/rock guitarist i've ever heard--and sometimes there're the special treats of Buck England on organ, and even the incomparable, and i use the word advisedly, Jay Mabin on blues harp. must say, we got some *players hereabouts.--RW

  • Beamish is a good drink. Moby Grape was a great band. Unfortunately, self-destructive.

rw99walker Would you kindly translate your comments into English

  • lost ability...to express self...so that others...can...comprehend...

  • Great to hear this live version of Jerry's great guitar playing and bass playing, Bob Mosley's wonderful powerhouse voice. This Band had Soul !!!

  • WOW! i thought no way this is on utube typed it in and there it is. great song. i have this album it is awesome

  • Never heard this version - just the one on Wow LP. This is more laid back - thanks for posting!

  • as a kid growing up in the tacoma scene, we all knew the power blasting from Jerry Miller and Moby Grape. Life has it's moments, and "Millers Blues" is certainly one of them.

Only Stevie Ray Vaughn displays anything like the guts and determination presented on this take. This aren't the eclectic yearnings of some insulated star, these are real live shards of glass from the mirror of Jerry Millers soul smashed for the listener's pleasure."Yeah we all know, Jerry, everybody knoows.. Don Beamish

  • The pic is a funny grape-one and the music is excellent, something from what Jimmy Page(Led Zeppelin) learned a bit....or not?

    Thanxs again

  • Thanks for the post..... I knew the Band name but I never got to hear them..... The Guitarist is fantastic.

  • This track proves that Jerry Miller was up there with the best blues players of the time, but was little known outside of Grape fans. Superb playing, and a great live track.

  • Wildly obscure post! Thanks for the rarity.

  • It might not be as obscure as you think, ClueSign. This song is available on the new "Truly Fine Citizen" CD release as a bonus track, and it's also on "Vintage, The Very Best of Moby Grape." I don't know where to find the compilation CD but Truly Fine Citizen can be found on sundazed dot com.

  • Hey thank you jschmidty; you're a true fan, not to mention Truly Fine Citizen.
