  • @ponymadpolly which statement? most horses who are injured in this industry are terminated-that is put to death, they no longer are useful. they no longer can make money. that IS what this industry is about, money. admiration of the beauty of the horse or not, when its all said and done this is all about money. in the U.S. ALONE around 5,000 horses every year are euthanized. so no, treadmills do not play a large roll in rehabilitation of horses, in fact injured horses are lucky if they even live

  • that is creul

  • @ilovedixieandisis123 how? people run on treadmills all the time. The horse looks pretty happy to me.

  • Disgusting.

  • @NurseGatita this is not disgusting

people run on treadmills dont they? and its not 'disgusting' it tells people how well the horse is and how healthy and if he needs anything done to help him live more its a good thing for horses and its a very natural movement to them no is forcing them to do anything so they are happy and if the people knew there was something wrong they would immediatly stop so no this is defiantly not disgusting

  • Hehehe. The horse is like... 'Why aren't you eating my dust?!'

  • The only thing wrong is the fact that that they could have ran that treadmill all night without the horse being able to get off of it. The horse stops when the person controlling it decides. If someone cruel were to leave this on for hour the horse would probably die.

  • @AJK323 but that never happenes there are dozens of people (as you can see in the video) watching and no one would let that happen

  • i agree that seeing a horse like this gallop up close is amazing and beautiful, but that doesnt mean its okay to have the horse do this. to strap a horse up on a treadmill, press a button, and whip the horse to tell it to RUN. id rather WONDER to myself, i wonder what a horse looks like while running, i wonder how amazing that must be to watch. then to see it in front of me on a computer, and see this horse forced to do something for our own selfish amusement and curiosity.

  • @tarageno123 You seriously think they are doing this ONLY for entertainment? They use the treadmill as a diagnostic tool! These are obviously trained professionals and students of a vet school! It's not like this horse does this for hours on end! Most likely only minutes at a time! PLEASE stop making yourself look like an idiot and at least do some research before you start accusing these people of forcing this animal to do something so "cruel"

  • @CosmoGirl410 i never said this was cruel, so PLEASE dont quote me on something i didnt say. this is not cruel. no, cruel would be an over statement- i agree. but what i dont agree with you on is this: there are two different kinds of animal abuse 1- where the victim is abused and the abuser is consciously aware of this fact; and 2- where the victim is abused and the abuser is unconsciously aware of this fact. either way, they are both animal abuse, and this i define as such. why?

  • @CosmoGirl410 because this horse's god given talent: its muscular legs and incredible stamina- is being abused, it is being watched for entertainment, or as you call it a 'diagnostic tool'. these people may be veterinary students and they may be using this as a study.. but that does not make it okay. there are many animal involving studies that are being performed for the purpose of drugs and medicine that are incredibly cruel.

  • this horse is not a machine, to be tested, to be 'worked on'. this horse is a being, with thoughts, with emotions. they treat this beautiful, magnificent animal, as if it was simply put here on this earth for their own benefit. fools.

  • and dont worry, dont worry. if the horse gets injured or hurt during a race its fine! well just terminate it. terminate its life, its being, all its every known. well just put it to 'sleep'. thats fine, cause well just get another one, a faster one, that well put on the treadmill for even longer. and make even MORE money.

  • @tarageno123 That statement you made is a bit awkward...if a horse damages tendons the treadmill can be used to rehabilitate, and also retrain tendon and ligament crimp structures. The horse has less strain on its body than it does on grass or sand because its a moving surface so the concussion is less so its actually good for training

  • these people defending the video are like, "horses arent human they can do this! this isnt cruel!". well horses arent human, but they also arent toys, they arent meant to be fucked with. lets put a horse on the treadmill and see how long it goes! lets put a horse on a treadmill and see how fast its heart rate accelerates! you know what a great way to make money would be? to have horses race each other and see which ones the fastest. hey why not? they arent human..

  • WHAT IF HE WANTS TO STOP

  • there whiping it soo much poor thing

    :(

  • @billybobbo2828 they aren't whipping it, without the whip there as an aid to remind the horse he has to keep running, he could stop and seriously hurt himself. if you want to see some whipping, go to an actual horse race. this horse is fine.

  • What the hell are they teaching at MSU????????? Don't you know that it ruins the heart muscle if you stop exercise so abruptly? The horse should have trotted for at least a minute after and then walked 5 minutes after that.

  • I love how the beat sounds like our hearts.

  • I have such mixed feelings. On one hand this horse did very well, is very stable, and it is a cool idea. But on the other hand I would be horrified if the horse was to trip and then be taken down that treadmill ramp. I'm sure there has to be a quick release or quick stop button though, like on a human treadmill where when the wrist band pulls out the machine stops?

  • poor horse probably thinks it cant run because its not going anywere :(

  • It's funny to see those tiny legs support something as massive as a horse.

  • i think its kinda mean but cool but like wat if he lost his footing or something

  • This is pretty cool to see a horse moving at a clip like that up close and really be able to see how they move

  • Why all the dislikes?? What's wrong with you people? Horses like to run. They weren't hitting it or starving it!

  • this is what they do, when they are training racehorses/thoroughbreds... its normal

  • there's nothing better than the sound of a horse

  • i love that SOUND!! n.n

  • what if that horse tripped........

  • @xoAllieGator21xo He would have to get up just like you would if you tripped

  • I can only imagine what these horses are thinking when they're running so fast and going absoultely nowhere. Moreover everyone around them is standing still and "somehow" still keeping up with them. Thats gotta be really confusing for them at first! Great way to study the gaits though.

  • poor horse,

  • @soccergirl846 its not poor horse thats how they train thorougbreds

  • Wheres the harness to catch the horse and do an emergency stop if it were to fall??

  • the guy in green is like: damn, what a beat! xD

  • The amount of comments here about this being "cruel" is pathetic.

MSU conducts study on reducing injuries to performance horses through nutrition, training and management. They clearly have heart monitors strapped to the horse to make sure it doesn't over stress its heart, and keep a careful eye on the horse's behaviour for signs of it tiring.

Believe it or not, these people are actually trying to help save horses from suffering.

  • what happens if the horse like spazes out or something at a gallop?

  • I would like to stick that women with that whip on there and tap her when shes not going fast enough. Cruel, even if it is for vet purposes

  • @Copper2903 You are joking right? She never even taps Daisy with that whip, shes got it there to keep her forward! This horse is now retired because she enjoyed herself so much that they couldn't get an 'unexcited' heart rate trend from her, neglecting a horse is cruel. Conducting research to prevent breakdown is not. Amazes me how many ignorant people leave stupid comments like this!

  • I think it was for an EKG stress test LOL

  • seriously people its obviouly for veterinary purpouses.

  • your obviously not horrse lover or why wud u to this to an inosent creature!!!!!!!!!! some people are so sick

  • people! its not cruel but depends on why they want the horse on a tred u can see clearly by the straps its a heart rate or something else experiment

  • I don't like this, its dangerous for the horse when it falls and I really don't like the woman with the whip.

  • i wouldnt stand so close...

  • what was the point in that? i think it was dumb

  • well thats mean.

  • This horse is obviously a racer. And has a HUGE problem with back. It looks deformed, muscles are already smashed to zero.

  • I think it's stupid way can a horse on a treadmill Trenier

  • This horse looks really skinny, and I think he's galloping for too long without a trotting break...

  • ik vind dit best wel zielig,

  • i hope it's a young horse... if it weren't then it can increase injury and tripping on the tred.

  • das ist tierqualer rei

  • thumbs up if that horse looks like give me a break and then the horse is probley thinking y is there a stick behind my back

  • This horses back looks really sunken. 'Swayback' perhaps ?

  • ._. people these days:L

  • Why...

  • T.T

  • That's quite surreal, seeing a horse gallop in one place. Normally you are lucky to see it for a few seconds. I think it is really facinating seeing a horse going at speed and being able to closely inspect it and ee exactly how it moves, what is being used, where pressure mostly is ect.

  • Wouah, poor horse ! He run during 1:10, but I know that in free, he can run, but not too much time ( sorry for my bad english ) !

  • No one understands that horses are not human, they're horses. They have more endurance than us and probably every animal on earth for that matter. I have heard that a fat horse still has more endurance than a human trained for the Olympics. I took my horse on a 3 hr trail ride over pretty hard terrain and what did he want to do when we were done? He wanted to trot! I was tired, but he still had energy. So please don't pity this horse, he is fine. Pity one that is unfed and has no shelter.

  • @7flyinghecks wolves have the most endurance they can run at high speeds for miles on end i know i train wolves the longes run a wolf has done is 102 miles none stop not to be rude or anything

  • Comment removed

  • @ilikemylittleponies

During the pony express days horses were ridden up to 25 miles at a gallop before the rider stopped for a fresh horse. Without a rider the horse probably could have went a lot further. And endurance horses can often go 100 miles at slower gaits without stopping. Personally I don't think there is any animal that can claim to have the end all of most endurance since they all have different types of endurance for their lifestyle.

  • @ilikemylittleponies

I also did some research that claims that wolves can trot at about 5 miles a hour when they travel for 100 miles. So he could do 100 miles in 20 hours. In 1988, extreme terrain, regular Western saddle: A stable owner rode 100 miles through the San Juan Mountains in Western Colorado, crossing several 12,000+ ft. passes, in 17 hours, 20 minutes. I think the horse has the wolf beat time wise. :)

  • @7flyinghecks I know right the nerve of some people why do they do that those people should be punished because it just hurts the horse and the horse has to do that because the owners don't care they just want to map money off him/her people are so stupid.

  • @7flyinghecks haha what you said about even fat horses having more endurance than us is totally true cuz the horse I ride is like that lol she looks pregnant but can run just as good as any other horse

  • WHIP!!! how dare you it was going fast enought

  • @bekie100

It was to keep the horse centred so it did not fall too far behind. It wasn't as if it was getting leathered, it was just an aid.

  • and here i didn't think they had treadmills in America.

  • @AlexiixelA lol

  • Sometimes I am ashamed of being human. Looking at this is one of those moments...

  • @welsey4e4

    How's that?

  • This is really crazy for!

A horse show or are injured!

    That is really great!

  • all of you guys are idiots horses are meant for running for miles and work especially thorough breds, thourough breds are high spirited horses that need exercise or they will be jumpy freaks and take off on you and no this isnt too long for the horse to be running,if the horse starts to slow down then its mean to keep it going but this horse is also excerising so learn your facts people

  • thats fucking horrible. they kept him going for way to long at to fast a speed. stop the abuse.

  • @crazyhorsebackrider you obviously dont know anything about horses. They can go for miles on top speed he is training for a race the race is the same thing horses can even go top speed for miles with a human of their back in no shape or foarm is this abuse, I would say you need to do your research before you leave comments like this

  • its the rong thing to do dusent matter how far they can run its like being stuck in a nightmare and not being able to wake up so seriously all u people that think this ok u really need to get a grip

  • @soxy1998

I seriously don't know, so I am not being sarcastic when I ask, what is bad about it?

  • i heard the horse died off this a shame

  • that poor horse!!!!!!!!! they kept him going way to fast and way to long!!!!!!!!!! i would understand if they had him gong that speed for like 30 seconds but not the whole vid!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @horselover1198 thoroughbreds run races for that amount of time and longer, that horse was fine in everyway that whole vid. calm down.

  • hmmm..... i wonder how it is to ride a horse on a tredmill

  • i want to ride a horse on a treadmill

  • i love to hear the horses hooves hit the treadmill, such a pretty sound to meh! XD

  • i wonder what it would be like if you were riding it when its on the tread...well i guess no wind.

  • how do u tell if the horse gets tired and just wants 2 stop?

  • lol thats wat my horses did when she was raceingg

  • thats mean how long did u make the poor horse run?

  • for everyone who are wondering where the safety harness is its not different than a human running on a treadmill. we could fall and get hurt just as easily. yes its better to have safety harnases but we could say just the same for humans too

  • @Horses4ever8 humans CHOOSE not to wear it. Horses don't. Humans can have a broken leg or two an it not be life threatening, for a horse it is.

  • @TangoAndAmber humans can aslo fall down and break a neck or crack a skull thats life threatning

  • @Horses4ever8 Humans make the choice, horses don't.

  • @TangoAndAmber that doesn't make it different

  • @Horses4ever8 yeah it does. Plus, with all the medical treatments these days a cracked skull is nothing. My moms boy friend has broken his neck and he's just fine.

How if that happened to a horse the poor thing would probably be dead.

  • @TangoAndAmber actually u can die instantly from a broken neck and skull. shards from the skull can puncture the brain and you can bleed internally. broken neck can kill you from impact.

  • @Horses4ever8 And if can happen to a horse that didn't choose to it it too.

  • i wanna ride her at the same time!!!!!!

  • safety harnesses?

  • howd they get the horse in the classroom??

  • Great Holy Swayback, Batman!

  • is it just me, or is that sound the best sound in the world?

  • @Arabianz7 ohhh i know.i could listen to it allllll day

  • I'm not a hater of this video or horses on treadmills, but if i were watching this in real life, i'd be so paranoid thinking the horse would fall! :P haha lol. :)

  • OMG! Ist sooo stupid! The pure horse!!! :O :(

  • @Sieliebtihnx333 its doesnt hurt it

  • now how com this treadmill doesnt have the safety curcingle attached to the ceiling like the others?

  • damn O.O

  • You would think that they would have leg wraps or some sort of leg protection on this horse while it is going at this fast speed.

  • @iluvmyhorseys if the horse isn't turning, they really don't need one. I mean it would be nice because it does provide support, but it wont necessarily hurt the horse

  • I know these are for good use, but don't you think it would be weird to be a horse and gallop for a couple minutes, but at the same time never leave the the spot you started at?

  • Wheres the safety gear...

  • One word ..dangerous

  • poor horse, i would never take a risk and do that to my horse, i know they have that chord that if it breaks then it stops but still if thoe horse slips on it its still really going to hurt and probably break a bone because it is in that confined area which would really mean thaty the horse would need to be put down... i dont agree that this is safe even for vets to do

  • бедненький(

  • omg if that horse would have fallen that that would suck!!!!

  • @feedtruck They have the horse tied to a pin that if he falls itll pull out and stop the treadmill.

  • @feedtruck Actually, Treadmills for horses have emergency stop. see the harness behind the horse? its to catch it if it falls. they slow down whenever the horse slows down. we take my horse to a equine hospitle every year, they test him like this

  • so what would happen if she fell? Please wright back!

  • The people who think having this horse run on the treadmill is abuse I assume know nothing about horses or they would know horses will run to play and chase eachother. These are normal things horses do. Is it abuse when a guy jogs down the road? nope

  • i think they should line up a bunch of horses on an extra wide treadmill next year at the kentucky derby and run a continuous protocol VO2 test until there is only one horse left running. it would save space, and decreases the incidence of injury. it would allow for a million more seats for people to watch and get wasted while wearing their fruity looking hats.

  • Or even better, dont race them at all.

  • @goosinator haha that would be weird and take away the classic of going, but it would be amazing to watch haha

  • @goosinator haha that would be weird and take away the classic of going, but it would be amazing to watch haha

  • @goosinator bc if they did then if one horse slips the rider would for sure be killed and the horse would shoot off the end and hit someone. if one horse fell the weight could stop the entire thing, or the vibration could make more horses fall

  • @goosinator do you not see the danger in this! Horses can still go down or get hurt on a treadmill, and it would be especially dangerous because they would be shot backwards on the treadmill, or even collide with another horse and take them down as well. Besides, it would take away the whole experience of going to the races. Now were just watching horses run on a loud noisy treadmill in a building. What fun is that! The derby is televised anyways so millions of people watch anyways.

  • @goosinator the problem with thatis when they tire out they'll jut fly off the end of the treadmill

  • @goosinator how dare you makefun of the greatest sport in the world, fuck you.

  • what happens if the horse slips or falls?

  • he should be attachted to a harness at the front so if he slips/falls behind the harness will pull and the treadmill will stop

  • Totally agree

  • @sarahpy1990

see the black and white strap attatched to the tredmill behind the horse??

if the horse stopped or fell, it would snap the chord and the tredmill would stop instantly.

it may not appear safe but im sure it is otherwise they would not be able to use them in vets.

  • Guys, horses are long-distance creatures. They are built to run for long periods of time. And I'm pretty sure the vets know better than some kids on the internet how the horse is feeling, especially since they have electrodes on him to moniter his vitals. :)

  • that was cool but a little too long for going that speed :( sorry...

  • not to long going that speed at all. Horse looks like a tb. Specially TBs are made for speed and distance, as well as just about any horse. Their heard animals that travel miles apon miles at a time at various speeds. If this was my horse, it would be a slight warm up to the intense training i do with him to keep his cardio and muscle tones up.

  • got a bit of a sway back!

  • that was nice but it was a little to fast for that horse

  • cool

  • really noisy feet though!

  • yay! First comment...
