@Monstersync Yes. The concept is the same. You'll need a Redrum, spider and M Class Compressor. Though if you have Reason 6 and above or Record, you can do it directly on the SSL Mixer. Since Redrum has individual outs just as Kong does, you can use your kick to duck your bass by splitting the Kick's individual output through the spider and then into the M Class device, which ducks the signal of the bass. Make sense?
@Afewdollarsmore1 Well thanks for saying. I appreciate it. Taking a bit of a rest for a while, but I'll be back with more tutorials coming soon. Cheers!
@tintala sidechain and parallel compression are two different things. But the short answer is yes you can. sidechain means ducking one signal while the other one is playing. A typical sidechain is a bass ducking out when the kick drum is playing (since they both usually use the same frequency space). parallel processing means sending the same audio to two separate mixer channels (one is processed with FX or distortion or something and the other is a clean signal - then both are mixed together).
Thank you so much, this was super helpful, I'm new to reason and I've been using FL studio as a DAW since I've been producing so it's really quite a difference and hard to get used to.
@dose25 No problem. I know switching DAWs is never easy. However, once you get used to Reason and the way it works, it's really a lot of fun. And the fact that the audio / CV cables mimic the real world will also help you understand how things are setup using hardware in the real world. Good luck and great to have you on board. ;-) Rob
@tintala an example would be if you have a kick drum and a bass that share similar places in terms of frequency.. you might want the kick drum to "pop" and be prominent over the bass, so you sidechain compress the bass so that each time the Kick drum is played, the bass "ducks out" or "drops" momentarily to let the kick drum sound through. Google the term and I'm sure there's plenty more info on sidechain compression.
@mayzon111222 I know. I'm truly sorry about that. I finally got all the sound issues worked out, so any new videos I post will be mucho better. But hopefully you can see where I'm going with this type of setup.
thank, this works alot better then the other method i was doing, and is alot faster. after asking for your help i decided to just take each individual pad sound and save as a .wav file then plug it into redrum. after that just did the hole side chaining redrum. it worked but was irritating. lol i even tried connecting to the audio out 3 and 4, just forgot to change the pad to it. oh well live, learn, and learn some more. thank again for the help.
can the same sidechain method be applied to the redrum?

what are the advantages of side chain compression?

@Phisequence Ok no worrys, just a little sad as this seemed like a good vid and the only one on the subject.
You can follow it for a short while but it gets to confusing without the words.
I'll look forward to more of your vids.
