@Themaniacnextdoor: Of course thats easy to believe. Jaws is one of the best movies of all time and that was mainly because of the acting and the great camera work by the camera crew. Theres no way you could get that same effect from a book. The plot itself wasnt particularly outstanding but it was different from anything else in its era. Jaws = timeless classic.

@ashleelmb Yeah. My main complaint is half of it is about Brody's wife fantasising about Hooper, and wanting to run away from him. The shark is only in the begining and the end, although teh final fight was awesome. Also, Quint's death was really pathentic; he just gets dragged underwater by the shark and drowns. I'd like to see the shark jump on the boat and sink it though.

Its such a crock that an expert shark hunter wouldn't be packing a big harpoon gun or explosives. In real life that shark would have been dead the first time Quint spotted him.

Its said that rober shaw could not stand richard dreyfuss and they often argued on set which turned out well for the movies direction.

In one scene Quint has thrown hooper almost overboard as he tried stopping quint from driving further with damaged engine..

Maybe in the end they would have killed eachother since quint can be realy aggressive and hooper bit child like lol

I would've liked a version similar to this more I think because Quint was my favorite character and I loved the boat,the ORCA(Another great movie). IF all three of them would've lived then they COULD have each done a sequel focusing on their independent encounters with a shark or other sea creature after "Jaws". This would've given them three good sequels if done right. I know that Robert Shaw who played Quint died not too long after "Jaws", but who knows how things could've been different?

@LolManReturns He was supposed to die, he was the element that brought the protagonist the Sherrif to the Atagonist the Shark. Without him the Sherrif wouldn't have been able to kill it. If he hadn't died he would've found some way with his crazy Ahab like revenge fantasy to put the protagonist life in danger to a unnatural degree like he did with the Marine Biologist. Quint is just there to make the Sherrif do what he needs to get done and provide some good moments. Like Jack Sperrow in POC.

The shark comes up out of the water and lands on the boat. (Just like in the film) Then Quint grabs a harpoon and stabs the shark by hand. The shark then dives but the rope on the end of the harpoon is wrapped round Quint's leg so he gets dragged underwater and drowns. Also in the book, Hooper gets eaten and Brody doesnt shoot the shark. He's just in the water and the shark comes right up close to him but by now it has sustained so many injuries it just dies, stops and sinks.

Yes, He's in the cage. But he has a camera aswell as the "Bangstick". He is too occupied with taking photos when the shark rams the cage and grabs him. The shark then breaks the surface with the corpse in it's mouth. Brody grabs the rifle, shoots without aiming and hits Hooper in the neck. As you can tell the book is a lot more gory than the film.
