  • Inspiring and Haunting

  • This song makes me just start crying...

  • man, can music get heavier than this!?

  • @SonBrimmer Nope. haha

  • First learned about this from Vinyl Cafe. Dave took decades to find it in the stories. Thank God we have Youtube now.

  • This oozes pure emotion. Love it.

  • If I could express myself like that, I'd starve to death from being unable to stop playing.

  • I wish there was a known picture of her

  • Thank buddah for youtube. Or else i may never have heard this!

  • Who dislikes this?

  • <MASTERPIECE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This song is so disturbingly brilliant.... i am a pretty decent guitarist and take it from me, the way this gal is strumming these weird notes & rhythms, all the while i believe she's singing and strumming at the same time.... believe me when i tell you, this is really hard to play and sing @ the same time... it's even hard to just play it, but to sing on top AMAZING!!!!!!!! Go Geeshie & thanks Robert Crumb for putting me on to her

  • @calanero I don't wanna "burst your bubble" but she's not playing guitar on the song... It's still an amazing song and incredibly hard!

  • @calanero Actually I apologize, I think you may be right about that, I just know that Elvie Thomas also played guitar on this song

  • @mikeman9412 According to American Primitive Volume 2 liner notes (which is very highly recommended to anyone who even vaguely likes this song) Geeshie played guitar and Elvie sang 2nd vocal on a couple songs of Geeshie's but not this one. I regard this as an extremely reliable source; the sort of folks who used to drive around buying old 78s in the 60s. Geeshie only recorded a handful of tunes, as did Sister O.M. Terrell (mentioned by another viewer). Most are easily found on comps. Buy them!

  • How could anyone dislike this masterpiece?

  • It's tough to describe the emotion created by the guitar in this song....that's probably part of the reason why it's so amazing.

  • this is one of the greatest songs ever recorded. its so emotionally captivating.

  • Exquisite.

  • tears from the heart. thank You

  • every time i hear this i can't help but think of robert crumb. so much great music in that film.

  • I first heard this in the movie "Crumb."

  • creepy like skip james

  • greatest blues song ever written.

  • shattering--thoroughly overlooked in the blues canon

  • @Dolorousness well it has +20k views... most early blues songs usually gain about 300

  • @busessuck1 The Empress - youtube[dot]com/watch?v=0BsIntS_Io4

    I could cite more.

Not to say this is 'less'... just questioning the measure applied to determine 'merit'.

  • truely haunting

  • i live 10 minutes away from where this was recorded!!!! in jackson,wi. crazy!

  • Killer Sister in Blues!

  • I don't use to like women singing the blues, but this is awesome. Really nice.

  • don`t you tell me that memphis minnie doesn`t like! i don`t like the woman`s that sing the blues in jazz style, but these kind of singers i like it, sister rosetta tharpe is another example.

  • well, i don't say women singing the blues are bad or whatever, but this is really different from a memphis minnie or bessie smith, and much more closer to a leadbelly or a blind willie johnson.

  • Could'nt said it better!

  • One of my husband's and my favorites for a long time. Discovered her on the Crumb soundtrack. Just an incredible song and performance.

  • I think the Crumb soundtrack was where I heard her too. Awesome.

  • whos singing?

  • Does anybody know if Geechie played the guitar, or just sang.

  • She was also guitarist too.

    T

  • This is beautiful.
