I'm an athletic young man, and watching this (and the Olympics in general) does nothing but make my chest feel like it's going to explode in happiness. I think it's beautiful to be able to see people who have worked so, so, SO hard for there time to shine, for some that is less than 30 seconds.
Congratulations to any medal winners, and anybody who didn't win a medal should be just as proud to be part of a celebration of human achievement.
man i admire the coaches that take their time to coach these guys...the paralympics should get more coverage...i mean with most sports, able people have other events to make highlights...for a lot of these ppl, this is their big moments....playing like that and being disabled is much harder..
Un jour j'ai vu un esprit, il m'a dit: "bientot tout le monde saura ecrire le français sans fautes d'orthographe" mais il est mort et ça ne s'est jamais produit...
being in a chair myself with the urge to still strive and compete at all aspects of life it sadens me to see some of these shallow postings. It surprizes me how many people confuse special olympics with paralympics there two totally differant events. If we had more national coverage might clear that up for some folks. there are able bodied people in some games at the paralympics, such as basketball for instance, people should research more b4 commenting on here
You discriminative bastard. Yes these people are DISadvantaged, even if they have both arms and legs doesn't mean they are NOT disabled. They could be blind, deaf or even have down syndrome. Explain to me how they are not DISadvantaged with that kind of disability, is it fair to put a normal person up against a person with that type of disability? I think not, next time think before you type because accidents do happen and most of these people arn't born the way they are.
if their blind or deaf that would be the special olympics not paralympics. and able bodied people do compete in paralympics there are people with no disability that play basketball your only allowed so many on a team i think
Get your information correct before correcting others. Blind people compete in the Paralympics NOT the Special Olympics! Goalball is a Paralympic sport.
yeah how wrong to give them a chance at glory. Im sure the gold medal winners would be pretty angry to hear of the exploitation of them that you speak of. "I won a gold medal but because I have a disability dont put me on t.v." your comment is not to be taken seriously.
i's not exploitation! c'mon you must know better than that. These people are just like us and should be given the same oportunities! If I was stuck into a wheel chair I would like to be able to continue doing the things I love!
the British team are doing well in Bejing currently but I've a feeling our genuine spastic team will suffer defeat at the hands of Croatia in the football tonight.
paralympics thats kool. forgive me for being ignorant but this is a honest question cuz i really dont know but umm oh do they do defense in basketball? can they block or steal it?
I really respect the athletes, they have trained their whole lives to participate in the events. A guy was making fun of the paralympics contesters in my class and as soon as the lesson was over a few guys taught him some values. He went home with a black eye. I have so much admiration for the athletes and if anyone tells you otherwise, give them the middle finger.
It is indeed a beautiful thing to witness that Olympic Games related organizations put in so much effort and investments to promote sport amongst handicapped people. I really hope this acts as incentive for governments worldwide to bring this kind of development home. :)

So how exactly are these people disabled?
You can hold onto the bicycle and you can pedal.
Your eye hurts? You can't hear?
That doesn't give you a DISadvantage.
