@GeekStinkBreath737 Nirvana, for some strange reason, decided to call it verse chorus verse even though they already happened to have a song by that name. It was a hidden track on this album and never had an official title imprinted on the disc, so to avoid confusion they renamed it to sappy. it is also sometimes referred to as "sad."
I've always liked the guitar solo. It's not "flashy" but it gets right to the point. Every note has a purpose and means something. Not a single note is a waste. Simple yet profound. Melodic.
I always wondered that also. They could've omitted the song "tourettes" from In Utero and replaced it with this gem. I guess Kurt had a different concept for In Utero.
@UnavailablePro there's three different studio versions. this one is from the in utero era. (on the with the lights out box set). the other two - one's on the "best of the box" CD, and the other is on the deluxe nevermind cd set
It's a beautiful song. It makes me sad knowing that Nirvana was headed in this direction and it abruptly and sadly ended. You will always be missed Kurt.
Bought this compilation when I was about 10-11 years old. I was drawn into Nirvana's music so young after hearing Smells Like Teen Spirit on a car ride up north with our neighbor's older daughter. In a way, time has kind of stood still for me since then. How much closer to the truth can you get in life to Nirvana?
i just thought of something at this moment... since courtney has the rights to alot of Nirvana songs, and dave obviously knows them. him and foo fighters should do covers of them... i mean as long as he puts (Nirvana cover) there shouldnt be no problems... i mean ppl do covers all the time haha
cosa è sacro e cosa è profano giudicatelo voi per me è uguale. per me è lei verse chorus verse and i will stole this cd to my father some of these day..
This version from 1993 was retitiled to Verse Chourus Verse (for some odd reason). the confusing part is that it was another unrealesed Nirvana track from 1991 with totally different lyrics...and much different tune.
@TheNeil450 It does get radio play! I heard it on the radio two days ago and recognized the voice but didn't know the song so I emailed the station to find out what song it was.
@TheNeil450 i actually heard it played on the 99.3 the fox in vancouver (where i'm from) .. but it was when the box set was first released so they were playing a bunch of shit from it... kurts solo in this song is just fucking epic!!!
This will always be VERSE CHORUS VERSE to me.. just like it says on the back of NO ALTERNATIVE.. I bought this CD in 1994 when I was a sophomore and heard it on the radio here in CHICAGO. It was a rare find for a dedicated fan. Kurt was with me (thru music) all through high school and beyond. His music rings true to me now like it did then. Hearing this gets me all emotional.. RiP KurT, you are missed brotha..
Unlike any other group, this band always had an special feeling, it held no time do like their music. It always come kicking in when you hear it for the first time. Its very simple and deep at the same time.
I snuck into my friend's room when he wasn't home and he has Kurt's diary and it had this song in it...that would be creepy to have ur diary, journal, whatever published after you died.
i am so glad i didnt check off do not send when i belonge to one of those cd clubs. this was the "pick of the month" when it came out. I still have this cd "NO ALTERNATIVE" and I always go to this tune first then listen to the whole cd til it plays again.
No one knows this song and I listened to it on a bus in 1996 in Idaho on the way to school from a drum competiton. I never was one to gloat over knowing some obscure band or great hidden track but for my love of Nirvana and this songs' obscurity I AM PROUD!!!
That's true. We all knew this as VCV back in the day. To my surprise, the name was changed because of a second song with the same name. Of course, the phrase, "verse chorus verse" was tossed around a lot by Kurt Cobain.
@Jvergakis The song wasn't released with a title in 1993, as it was a hidden track on the No Alternative disc. It was later officially retitled "Sappy" and is included on the "With The Lights Out" three-disc Nirvana compilation.
@Jvergakis the reason it's titled "Sappy" is because Kurt had another song called "Verse Chorus Verse," and in his journals he titled the lyrics to this one "Sappy" and the lyrics to that one "Verse Chorus Verse."
This is one of Nirvana's best songs...slight edge from In Utero while having hit potential at the time

@UnavailablePro The song itself has been recorded and tweaked several times throughout Nirvana's career.
Until finally settling on this version, which was recorded in 1993 during the In Utero sessions.
