  • By the way: Thank you so much for your interest towards Catalonia and its reality. It would be so nice that all the foreigners had, at least, just an slightly interested about the country as you have (and I include the Spanish people who move to Catalonia). We are subjected to a huge secular injustice, which has never been solved and it gets worse one day after another.

    Greetings!

  • Despite the obvious historical facts behind us, the main reason of the independence is the fiscal deficit, that keeps Catalonia in a very uncomfortable and unfair position within Spain. But it's not only due the money: Spain (it includes its Government and a large representation of its society -althought not all of it-), has never respected the catalan reality and has never made any effort to solve it. So, my answer is clear: VISCA CATALUNYA!

  • Artur Mas, premier of Catalonia, talked last monday in an article in Financial Times about "divorce" between Catalonia and Spain if the central government were to refuse the new economic deal that is demanded from Catalonia. “So our project in the short term is fiscal sovereignty ... In the longer term, we’ll see” he said."

  • visca Catalunya! thanks Peter from Catalunya, you are the first foreign person to think about this

  • Hey Peter!

I studied for a year in the US, and I also tried to spread the Independence message but I didn't succeed as much as your friends did! I was very glad to hear your words, and I just want to let you know that over here we keep working for our independence. You can asure your friends this: independence time is coming soon.

UNIU-VOS A SI! Visca Catalunya lliure!

  • Thank you very much ;)

  • Visca Catalunya lliure!

  • I say: Visca Catalunya! It's always helpful to see that people from all over the world give their support to people from Catalonia and understand why we want our independence. Thank you, Peter!

  • Visca Catalunya Lliure!

  • Cheers from Barcelona to our american friend!

  • Portugal was in them plans but they didn't got enough army to combat on Catalonia and Portugal at the same time, so they choosed Catalonia for obvious reasons. Catalonia was up to be helped by England, but Spaniards offered Gibraltar in change they don't help catalans. Today the spaniards claim "Gibraltar is Spain!" forgetting that ancient trick. They gave North Catalonia to France as a present to divide us more and more, as they did too with the Basque Country.

  • In the case of Occidental Sahara, they just abandoned them, giving the sovereignty to Morocco. They just want the nations they catch for everything but for respect the people was living before.

  • I say VISCA CATALUNYA and VISCA EN PETER!! In fact, as you say, this little country token by Spain, produce almost the 40% of the Spanish richness per year. Imagine why they will never permit we reach the independence. But take a glance on them history: conquering South America, Phillippine Islands, Equatorial Guinea, Occidental Sahara... now look the heritage they let. Instead to create industry and richness for the country they take, they just got and stoled the resources of that country.

  • I say: VISCA CATALUNYA!

  • Thanks Peter for this words, to help us to internationalize our conflict with Spain (more than 300 years!). Our fight, is a fight for democracy, for freedom, for recognition of the cultures in the world represented by nations. We are not against Spain or spanish people. We are a mature nation that needs to the freedom to decide our future and to integrate in Europe and in the world, to contribute with our cultural diferences. The globalism needs diversity. Diversity is the base of live also.

  • Poor Peter, this kind of videos are for Spanish trolls what light is for bugs, they feel attracted to them and I still can't understand how they manage to achieve them, but they do it and that's molest. Then I would responded all the nasty comments, but now I won't waste my time with that crap, nobody who's mentally sane should not allow the 10% of his/her country's GDP be stolen. And well, you're american, catalan-friendly and handsome that I nearly had an orgasm! XDDD And glad I found you.

  • @aclaparat777 Ha,ha,ha, good comment! xD. Visca Catalunya lliure!!

  • We apreciate that. Thanks! Continua endavant! Catalonia is not Spain!

  • Well said Peter. I am English, but also support Catalunya - it is good to know there are others doing the same. Keep up the good work!!

  • VISCA CATALUNYA LLIURE!!!!

  • The Catalan people want Catalonia's Independence

Catalonia is not spain. Castille-spain is the politic, linguistic and economic repression. Spain is the persecution of the catalan language and catalonian culture.

We want celebrate a peaceful and democratic referendum for Catalonia's independence.

  • Hi Peter,

Thank you so much for starting this youtube channel. As a Catalan, it makes me feel glad and proud of it ;)

I think you made and excellent summary of the conflict between Catalunya and Spain. Some may say we are few, but in fact there are lots of Catalans that demand more freedom for Catalunya and even the full independence from Spain. I am one of those and I'd like you to upload more vids exposing your point of view, cause I'm interested in it. Good luck and Visca Catalunya! ||*||

  • Mr @Yrjgmail9 you still there insulting me? Congratulations It's must be hard to be yourself with this venom in your mouth. The people can read your comments and in a few seconds know who lied and who insulted each other.

  • Mr. @Yrjgmail9 it's a typical spaniard: he hate catalans and he insults the democracy which means our right to defend our culture. Thanks to show to all the world how the spaniards likes to insult all which are different or think in a different way.

  • Moltes gràcies Peter! Your video is being spread through Twitter thanks to Mr. Corb below. I'm RT it right now!

  • We only want to be free. It's esay to understant. We have our ancient language and history. We aren't spaniards, we are catalans. How Spaniards can explain that we are forced to speak spanish? We are forced to pay the highest taxes in Spain? Or that we are forced to live in a state that never respect our culture? We only fight to have our state. And we fight pacefully. Thanks Peter, best regards from barcelona and Visca catalunya Lliure.

  • Spain hates our "nationalism" and calls us "nazis" but in fact we only try to keep alive our culture, the fascits here are them.

    Thank you very much. ||*||

  • Hey, great video. Thanks for making it. I'll spread the word on Twitter. We've got a great book that can help explain to Americans what Catalonia is all about... it's called "What Catalans Want", and it's a series of interviews of leading politicians, artists, academics, and more by Toni Strubell, currently an MP in Catalonia's Parliament, with beautiful photographs by Lluís Brunet. You can find it on Amazon, and I'd be happy to send you a review copy if you're interested.

    Visca Catalunya!

  • visca Catalunya! Thank you very much, that's exactly what we need, people all around the world to see and listen what we are and what we want.

  • Moltes gràcies Pere! thank you very much. Your support could be very important, we need it! Spain is far from being democratic country and unless our struggle is properly internationalized, we'll have a hard time to be free.

  • Thanks, Peter. This struggle between Catalonia and Spain is really interesting to know about and recently is turning into a more real social conflict. It would be great if this issue could be well known all over the world, and not only as an internal spanish thing. That's why I wish you so much luck with your brand new channel. I'll recomend it. Keep on it, dude!!

  • Em fa molt feliç trobar gent tant llunyana que ens entèn i troba la nostra causa tant propera.

I'm happy to see that people from so far away understand us so well and think our 'fight' so close to them.

thanks for the video. I'm really happy :)

  • You're not right. You need more information about Spain & the region of Catalonia. Only 15% of catalans want to become independent. In addition, Catalonia is not a nation and it has never been a nation. Learn history please!

My answer to the question is Viva Espana!

  • @felino3210 Nope, it's not 15%, that's a made-up number. Save those to yourself. Also, Catalonia is a nation (no matter how you dislike that fact, it's not going to change), Spain isn't. Spain is just a conglomerate of nations under a same state (a forced cooperation that results in the exploitation of the weak, i.e. the minority within the country that has little representation in a castilian-ruled government).

I recommend you to go learn some history and stop spreading your uneducated opinion.

  • @PhyOSPhyOS Catalonia is NOT a nation! Catalonia was a small region of the Kingdom of Aragon which joined the Kingdom of Castille peacefully in 1469. The only one who has to learn history is YOU.

    Greetings.

  • @felino3210 Really? That's all you have to say? Catalonia was a small region that joined the Kingdom of Aragon for economic reasons, and didn't care for a name change as said kingdom had a good reputation and commercial success, which was beneficial for Catalonia. Then the Kingdom joined the one of Castille (peacefully, yes, the problem wasn't the union itself), but then later on the region was stripped of all its rights, laws, etc.

Anyway, none of what you said means it's not a nation, so well.

  • @felino3210 Aragon was a nation many years ago, and so was Catalonia. The Kingdom kept everything at first, indeed, and then it was lost at the hands of the king by imposition based on the "right of conquer". Years passed and Aragon lost its identity, but Catalonia resisted, up until now.

You don't have to check the history books to see that Catalonia is a nation, come here for a few days and look around. Also, rather than repeating your biased opinion every time, try making your point.

  • @felino3210 Aragon was Catalonia, you are completely right in that it was no nation called "Catalonia" but you know how and why the kingdom of Aragón was formec.

PD: We should comment the elections ;)

  • @felino3210 Hello my friend ;) Let's try to have debate. Catalonia is a nation in terms of language and culture, you can't deny that. After that we can move to the point about what the Kingdom of Aragón was and why. Lots of Nations have existed with a different names, South Africa ( Orange Free State) Latvia (Courland) Estonia ( Livonia)

answer your reply, at least you have your arguments not like those who said "mira en tu DNI" or "con quien jugará el Barça

Btw, last official results are 45 %

  • @breizhcatalonia1993 Shalom! ;) I agree the last results are 45%. Only 250.000 people participated in that referendum. That's only 18% of people who lives in Catalonia. The separatists were rushing to vote "yes". The rest of the people didn't care because they were not separatists. Catalans feel they are deeply Catalan because they are deeply Spanish.

God bless Spain and Catalonia! ;)

  • @felino3210 Ertov ;) Wait, but you are talking about the non-official one or about the CEO poll? Yeah, agree, but i have to make point, there are A LOT of independentists that not voted in the referendums because they saw it as a non-utile thing and they only want a real referendum, more or less like me, but i think the temptation will be enough for vote if my city organized one.

What about the French and Italian Catalans? :P same that with the "spanish" catalans?

  • @felino3210 but in spain is very normal to boycott things that you not agree with instead of saying what you think.

PD: The votes of the non-official referendums were more that the votes received in the province of Barcelona received by CiU in last state elections ;)

  • @felino3210 EspaNa? xD

  • Hey Peter, I'm another American for Catalunya. Cool to have someone else fighting the good fight xD Visca Catalunya!

  • Wow. I don't know if you realize what you have just started. Good luck at dealing with the trolls (which are probably all spaniards).

I'm looking forward to seeing more videos of you and your background, and maybe give my opinion.

    Visca Catalunya.

  • Visca Catalunya! (L) :)

  • Thanks Peter! Catalonia need people like you around the world! Freedom Catalunya!

  • gràcies amic!

    Visca Catalunya!

  • Very well done. You could consider to change the video's title to depict the fact that you are dealing with Catalonia: for instance, a good choice could be "Free Catalonia" :-) Cheers
