  • nice vids.

keep the good work up. :)

off topic: where can i get this shirt? =)

  • @Matondo0104 thanks man - it was a gift. Not sure where to grab it but I think it was off titleboxing(dot)com

  • now I shall used this to fight crime...

  • This guy on the video knows more about boxing than the so-called P4P overhyped Pacroid.

  • on the jab, you will run into problems with a guy who has quicker hands especially if he feints you. Another tip is, don't square up. Use angles. I stop the job with my right hand hugged against my left shoulder. If you don't use angles, it's like trying to fight about 8 guys in there.

  • Muy Bueno. Nice! From Argentina. Thanks!

  • Your a good teacher,

  • @shymoneykid thanks bro!

  • @LIKWITCREW1 lol funny guy. get a life.

  • Very great video!

  • good vid dude!

  • thing is that i often slip while defending myself. im not getting my leg movement right at all. can you please help me with that? thanks.

  • @mehoafzal you want to keep your body centred and take small steps. Big steps result in getting off balance. Head over to my page, there's a video under the boxing playlist where I go over movement.

  • i've learned more from your videos and practicing what i see than i have at the lame ass boxing gym i use to go to. thanks chad, and keep up the good work

  • bro i used this all the way thru the golden gloves final fight is saturday

  • @BBOYRAV3 wow! shoot me an email, I'd like to here more about this! chad(at)chadhowsefitness(dot)com

  • c00l now i can beat kidz that both me there gona be like wtf

  • what about defending against a southpaw?

  • @mrostos I need to do a video dedicated to this.

You'll block the jab with the left, cross with the right.

  • @mrostos May I suggest that you not only learn to defend against a southpaw, but also how to attack one relentlessly. Hint: his liver (largest internal organ of the human body) is closer to you than yours is to him, If you hit his liver right, it will most likely end the fight, unless he's Superman or on crack. Have your coach/trainer show you how to set up the liver punch on a southpaw with combinations and feints, etc.

  • thats pretty good =]

  • great vid

  • 1:09 o.o crazy defence..so dangerous..if you see a jab..ad than it's a hook you are fucked

  • does the same go for like if your in a fight at school cuz when i get in fights i block the same way as i do when i spar

  • how would this work without gloves, like in a street fight? because we wont have big ol gloves to deflect punches lol

  • @Godcaly123 use your palm

  • I have large everlast gloves, but they are the gloves that the fingers come out, like MMA. are those good for practicing boxing alone as a begginer, or do i need big boxing gloves?

  • @bagutierrez95 depending on what you want to do. If you're going to spar with boxing, then get some boxing gloves, but those - or some bag gloves - should be good if you're primarily doing bag work.

  • good basics

  • good technique though

  • half of these viewers won't use these tips at the end of the day in a real fight

  • Thanks you retaught me what I kinda forgot, haha. Appreciate it a lot man.

  • @Frozenpot420 don't be worried. You should be attacking the punches when you slip. Notice how I'm slipping forward, towards the punches a lot of the time, this way you're putting yourself in better position to counter. Slipping is all about getting your opponent off balance and countering.

  • nice videos realyy helped

  • Thanks a lot...a nice handy sum of right techs, very useful!!

  • how to block without boxing gloves

  • don't be scared to fiqht if u step in to a punch eat it!

  • Question: How would you defend against jabs, hooks, when not wearing boxing gloves?

    Thanks for upload

  • @AkibaKrazed I like slipping anyways, so you'd slip more. But it would be the same technique for blocking.

  • @ChadHowseFitness is it helpful to move your head after you throw a combination at your opponent at all times? because you're not giving your opponent a target to hit really... or should you vary it a little and not always move your head after you throw a combination?

  • @codeman95291 ya you want to be moving your head after a combination. Or throw a couple jabs and circle out after you finish.

  • @ChadHowseFitness alright thanks

  • I can tell you have the footwork down just by the sound of your feet on the pavement. Nice video.

  • Why is it when he throws a left jab u can slip left or right but when he throws a right jab u can only slip to the left but not the right?

  • @818Harumi you can do the same thing on either, what you have to watch out for is slipping into his power hand. So with an orthodox fighter that would mean slipping to your left (into his right hand).

  • I wouldn't do that... you can't see any follow up punches..

  • @guigui1992 Im talking about blocking.

  • hey chad i dong get it , in the stance + footwork video you said your right hand should be protecting your chin but now in this video you put your right hand in your forehead to protect your face from a jab ... so where does the right hand really protects?

  • @punkyjojo By putting your hands high (in the video at my forehead), you're protecting your chin/face etc..

  • Thanks for that!

  • never knew how to slip right haha i always ended up going right into the punches xD thanks dude

  • Nice calves

  • Im not hating but you have sirious problem when you defend that left hook your body is too open, im not acting smart just a friend advice :)

  • Nice tutorial. Well put together. I'm watching the rest of your vids.

  • weak dude no footwork?

  • @J040Z1NH0 check out my channel under the "boxing videos" category and you'll find one on footwork.

  • I would like to see you in action. Any sparring videos?

  • @jayortiz81 none up yet, I need to get on this!

  • 11 people where hit!!

  • Excellent introductory defense instruction. Well done.

  • @tpl555 Thanks, I appreciate man.

  • its not like 65628 people didn't took a punch since u made this video becouse u need a lot of practice with your coach and a youtube video can only make u say "OK...i know what should i do tomorrow"...that's my opinion

  • do you have any suggestions for someone with a disability involving the legs?... someone who is slow moving/labored in the legs and hips? ... im handicapped but i think i can box if i work at it...

  • As a total beginner, I can tell you this video is perfect. This and your other beginner videos are exactly what i was looking for. Please keep up the good work and your great spirit.

  • As a total beginner, I'll tell you this video is perfect. This as well as your other beginner videos are exactly what I was looking for. Thank you, please keep up the good work and your great spirit.

  • Man you are always making good videos! Keep going bro!

  • What I like about you Chad is you seem like a good guy who's just into fitness and boxing...not a hard guy who likes to fight and is miserable. Thank God that he allows you to engage in fighting and strength skills and still have your morals and character. Not so lucky for me.

  • @PatrickBP26 Thanks for the kind words bro.

  • straight simple and correct nice video guys

  • always step/turn/slip so u are OUT of the opponents guard...never slip inside unless u have like 20 years of experience or the reflexes of roy jones...

  • I thought the bideo was on point, and very helpful. Keep posting, please!

  • Dead wrong and terrible right hand defense. you are blinding yourself with that cover and roll....just roll the shoulder like james toney. also you CAN slip to your right to get under the right hand. Its way safer than slipping to the outside like you showed. 3rd and most effective is to smoother the right with your lead while hiding your chin behind your shoulder much like moseley and hoya do. You have no sparring up and I know why. you dont fight or spar and it shows. your jab perry was ok.

  • @jasperzoe RH defence: yes, overselling completely for the purposes of explaining. Rolling the shoulder is great for advanced fighters, but not for beginners. Look at Toney, Mayweather, all the guys who drop their lead hand had to first learn how to fight w their hands up. Again, for beginners my friend. No sparring because what can people learn from it? Not here to show off my skills but to give helpful tips to people who want to box. I appreciate the comment tho bud.

  • @ChadHowseFitness well put about learning with hands up first.

  • @ChadHowseFitness you could show beginners how to spar....in which they should only be able to defend and use a jab with their footwork. once they have a concept down of range and fighters measure they can add the rear hand and combos....etc. How many times you seen a tough man where guys just go bazerk...LOL so easy just to take your time and pick them off with a simple jab.

  • @jasperzoe haha ya I could do that for sure. We've had a few of those guys come in our gym before. They're pretty damn cocky, but by the end of their first sparring session they're usually brought back down to earth. I'll see what I can do with the sparring. Maybe do a voice over and some editing to accompany the sparring to make it more educational for people.

  • @ChadHowseFitness do it bro....people dont realize that everything works off the jab offensively and defensively everything starts with taking away the other guys jab or whatever strengths. another more advanced video you could do. figure out what his strength is right away and take it away from him. where do you live?

  • @jasperzoe Agreed. A series of taking away strengths could be good. I live in Vancouver - yourself?

  • @ChadHowseFitness I live in NC on the coast

  • @jasperzoe Never been there, heard great things though. I have a friend that lives in NC.

  • @jasperzoe let me troll dawg....let me troll LOL

  • this helps alot thanks:)

  • 1:09 guy in black looking on the ribs ''mouth watered'' lolx ..

  • thanks

  • Very good. When I saw it was some guy in his back yard I thought it would be horrible, but he's right on.

Stance looks good, movements are correct, blocks/counters are right on also.

    Good job.

  • U ppl r dumb! This is not a foot work video! Its a video for ppl who don't know how to slip a punch or block! But good stuff guys, especially for ppl who don't know any defense! Awesome vid!

  • man o man do i have a lot to learn lol

  • the principles your showing is correct..but i think your overdoing the pivot in this video..he's actually hitting the back of your head.

  • @kingwls yes I'm over-exhaggerating a lot of movements in this video in an effort to show them a bit better to the viewer. Good eye though.

  • @ChadHowseFitness have you ever been in a street fight? and i think i have a very quick and good 123 now thanks to your combo video

  • @JMort95 yes I've been in a street fight. Glad I can help!

  • @ChadHowseFitness have you ever lost a street fight?

  • although, it`s a good video ;)

  • HEy people, you should show your foots.... becouse its very importante how to balance your body on yout foots

  • also when you roll under keep them elbows in, sorry dont mean to be a know it all

  • dont roll with the right hand, slip it then counter punch or actually roll under it to the outside with hooks to the head and body

  • its called a perry. I would even use catching over blocking if you want to dumb it down. In addition you can smoother the right hand much like you smoother a southpaw jab by extending and catching it or perrying it down. Range and footwork is the safest D against all of these punches thought really. You got fight or sparring vids? your vid is good for beginners but your are noobish in movement.

  • Wow thanks i've been looking for a tutorial how to block punches fto use in muay thai

  • @MysteriousStranger08

    i kno right.

For some reason there arent many good defense tutorials for muay thai. When i see them fight they hardly ever try to defend. They just take the hit!!

    WTF

  • @fromstart2finish They are weak when it comes to punches but deadly when its elbows, knees and kicks. They dont really focus much on blocking punches or throwing a lot of punches as it wont earn them a lot of points in matches

  • @MysteriousStranger08

that makes sense. Why block punches that wont really hurt or earn a lot of points

  • @fromstart2finish Some people did boxing before doing muay thai so if you didnt block you would end up with a black eye

  • @MysteriousStranger08

yea, thats natural for boxers but muay thai i guess they get used to getting smashed in the face which is probably why i hardly ever see them blocking.

  • @fromstart2finish True its pretty much why they teach you to stand in your grounds and just take hit and hit back. Plus in muay thai matches everyone is injured somehow and some are bleeding

  • im gonna start doing boxing because of you lol good teacher

  • Great video i find the striking part much easier but i always forget to defend myself good good basic slipping and blocking techniques in this vid that i have to improve

  • @K1BIGGESTFAN One thing to remember about blocking slipping - that I need to do a video on - is to not get out of position. You want little movements, not huge blocks or slips because the whole point is to counter. It takes time but you'll get there for sure. Glad you like the video!

  • oh and i dont think you should roll becuase you could get hit in the back of the head and get seriously injured and i preffere never to take your eyes of your apponent

  • @nukebombsflyin I see what you're saying. I over-sold the blocking in the video for demonstration purposes, but when in a fight the movements will be much more subtle. Rolling for block is a great way to counter a punch. But I do prefer to slip more often than not. Glad you like the shirt! Maybe my favorite!

  • @ChadHowseFitness oh ok yeah idk i just see it like that i guess it might becuase im a begginer i might have to try that when i finally get to spar

  • that shirt is fucking awesome!

  • u kick ass on his video:)

  • can you show us how to throw and effective knockout punch?

  • Great tip that was very helpful

  • Thanks bro! Awesome! Keep it up! Good luck with your boxing!

  • how do you defend a body shot in the middle of your abs

  • simple, no bullshit, excellent video

  • fuck there is a substantial height and reach difference there.

Good video, thanks for the tips!

  • Love the video! very informative! answered a lot of questions I had!

  • This is the best boxing defence vid on youtube!!! By far...thanks for the upload! Really helps! :D

  • @MrMe4u2nv glad you like the videos - what else do you need help with? I'm filming some more videos this weekend...

  • @ChadHowseFitness i just need to gain wieght, its so hard because i have a high motabalism! and i my 6pac is good but my chest aint! lol

  • @ChadHowseFitness really awesome video dude! Really apreciated, i think alot of people would love some videos on basic punches explained abit diffrently, fx the videos ive watched i would never have understood what a Simple Jab is, people don't seem to explain it proberly, like a jab is more you pulling your hand back than forcing it out, teaching them how to not tense up so it doesnt get into a half arsed cross, but into a jab, i would personally love some longer all around videos ;) <3

  • @Jediskum thats a great idea - next time I'm in the gym I'll work on that for sure!

  • great vid, I really need to learn this stuff, I'm getting killed at sparring, thx for the upload

  • AWESOME MAN, GREAT TIPS. I LEARNT TO PUNCH AND HIT HARD BUT WAS WEAK IN BLOCKING. THANKS A LOT

  • @wrey12 No problem, glad I can help!

  • @wrey12 Same here :) Seems to be a typical beginners "challenge!" ;)

  • thanks man ive been looking into boxing for some time now ican get started with the basics and know that im learning the right way

  • that guys tattoo is killer

  • it would be very helpful to upload a sparring session where you use those techniques, or at least a flowing drill

  • @McDave1312 great idea - I'll get that on the list for videos I have to get done.

  • @ChadHowseFitness

    great! subscribed

  • This is good but what if its like a street fight without any gloves.. Does this still work?

  • @DeathrowRecords1995 yes, you can still parry punches in a street fight, slipping will be more effective though. Most street fights involve wild, swinging punches with no technique. Add some slipping and straight punches and you're more than good to go in a street fight.

  • @ChadHowseFitness nice man. very similar to what my boxing coach teaches me, since i suck at slipping against good fighters lol. Have you been taught to read the shoulders? One coach has told me this, so that if a shoulder comes forward, that cues a straight punch. If it opens up..hook/body punch. if it drops...uppercut/body punch. have you heard anything similar to this? thanks

  • @joeberger yes I've heard similar things. But I watch more of the chest. If you're going against a good fighter, they'll feint a lot with their shoulders. If you're focused too much on the shoulders, you can be deceived. But ya, they're great to look at along with the chest. Offensively, try feinting with your shoulders, not just your hands - it's a great way to catch a guy cheating...

  • nice video but how do you predict the punches being thrown at you so fast?

  • @ASPEDBUSDRIVER1 - it comes with practice. But you have to move less distance to block than the opponent does to punch, which gives you an advantage, and they're also worried about the punches you're throwing at them. It's all one big chess game.

  • Hey, have you ever boxed you friend nate? becaus with his height he looks like he would be good at boxing.

  • @TheFez2202 hey no we've never fought. Ya he's a pretty big guy (6'6) and actually a very good kickboxer. He holds a belt here in BC.

  • Comment removed

  • @koalalumpar sorry for the late response, but I'm a personal trainer, running my own business...

  • Thanks for the comments guys, glad you like the video. The next one should be up in about a week.

  • Great videos, thanks Chad!

  • Great video. I have not had the basics of boxing defense explained this easily to me before.

  • This is a great video..short and sweet!

  • hay chad keep it up man, i'm loving the videos and learning alot, didn't realise you were the same chad who comments on nates page until this third vid he's another good guy. i think he's missing a treat not putting up vids on youtube i'd love to see some boxing related weight training.

  • @charleso182 thanks man. Ya I'm the same guy, I had a guest article on his site a few weeks back as well, did you get to see that? Nate's an awesome guy, I think he has a youtube page as well, I'll let you know what it is when I find it.

I'll get some boxing training type workouts up soon too. I left my video camera on a recent trip, so as soon as I get it back I'll post some new training vids.

Thanks for the comment, glad you're liking the vids. Any questions just let me know!
