Ivan has absolutely nothing in common with Baryshnikov save for the height of his jumps. Vasiliev is totally devoid of stage presense. I watched him on stage and was very dissapointed. There were no Basil.
Remeber that he is only 18! He's got lots of time. Nikolai Tsiskaridze when I first saw him didn't have the greatest stage presence either, but look how that has changed!
Nikolai T. has the figure of premier danseur, tremendous stage presence and charm to match the two. I have seen none of those qualities that are, imo, essential, to perform lead roles. Besides those qualities is something that one is born with. Hard to make one a Prince if he looks as, alas, only like Prince's jester.
i have to disagree with you. he is not still baryshnikov like many good dancers will never be but ivan is tremendously talented and charming. he is younger and many times better than most of top ballet dancers nowadays and i have no doubt that he will go further
@calipso1010 - You need to see some of the recent videos: look on YT for Vasiliev Pestov and Vasiliev Basilio. He has phenomenal stage presence and charisma. I saw him last month in DC as Spartacus and was skeptical that he could carry it off emotionally. Well, he blew me and everyone else away. The audience knew they were in the presence of greateness.
well darling hope you get to see some live performances
He will be in London for 3 weeks in August 2007 Don.Q with Osipova is 9th Aug He performs with remarkable technical virtuosity like the unique Nureyev Each show is different ~~ Not like carbon copy Baryyshnikov He is only around 17yrs old
il est si jeune et si brillant : une future grande star

Thanks for posting! Vasiliev does indeed seem to be the "second Baryshnikov" -- and he still has so much potential...
