  • One of the most beautiful Lieder ever composed. I had no idea Beethoven had such a fantastic Lieder repertoire until recently and Fritz Wunderlich is helping me fall in love with them! I also recommend the recording of Friz Wunderlich singing Beethoven's "Ich Liebe Dich" found here on youtube. Bravo Fritz!

  • @jrjorgensen2519 And Ludwig wrote also a big impressionant concerto aria para soprano,

  • Peter Anders also has a wonderful interpretation of this aria on Youtube.

  • God bless you, Fritz Wunderlish!

  • God bless you, Fritz Wunderlish

  • Magnificently sung.TY JB for this very special posting.

  • l think a bit like you, Well possibly JB had a bigger voice l am not sure, but what l can say that l have a huge admiration for Fritz.

Curious l don't know if you have seen some of my videos, and l explain:

l had a very operatic voice but l sang Lieder and melodies with less voice and more sweetly. So l agree Fritz used well his magnificent voice.

  • Not necessarily a smaller voice, but Wunderlich uses a lighter production (less "compression") in his singing of this song, than JB does.

  • Thank you! Beautiful! Love Beethoven. Beautiful Wunderlich!

  • For Beethoven I will take my hat off

  • @keizerjoo you wear a hat when you listen to beethoven? :D

  • @seektheforce for Beethoven, I'll wear two hats just so I have two to take off.

  • I only discovered this piece a few days ago, and before that, it was completely unknown to me, which is weird because I'm completely obsessed with Beethoven. I typed it in on iTunes and this was the first one that came up. I fell in love with Adelaide immediately.

  • Thanks.Wonderful Magic. Beautiful Jussi & Fritz ,It does not matter, how could a layman choose a best version.

  • I feel in love with Beethoven by this song! Ah! (Sigh) Viele danke, Wunderlich, du bist wunderbar!

  • Wunderlich would have made Beethoven to joy in delight and Bjorling would have moved Beethoven to shed tears.

  • @steakopera

    Wunderlich is incredible. such beauty.

  • Cuanta belleza! Gracias Beethoven y gracias Fritz Wunderlich!

  • Jussi at the same age was also a lyric tenor and as far as lyrics go and lyric spinto's as Wunderlich would have become had he lived like Jussi they where tops. Here he sings German so beautifully it is just out of this world and polished, not just pretty notes.

  • I do not think he was less great here then Bjorling at- all he sings it more lyrically then jussi does and thats fine. I like it as much as Bjorling in a different way, nobody could sing it better anyhow. They both where great singers. Wunderlich had a very warm voice, as far as warmth goes it was a warmer sound then Jussi but he died at 35 so we do not know what was to come, Bravo Fritz--- your missed.

  • magnifique interprétation de Fritz W. pour ce lied de Beethoven, Adelaïdeeeeee

très beau montage !!!! Belle composition Merci

  • They are so great, ideals for this great Lied,l believe it's impossible to compare.

, TWO GREAT TENORS and l repeat impossible to compare. TWO GREAT and POSSIBILY BEST TENORS..

  • I never thought anyone could approach Jussi Bjoerling's singing of this piece but he comes close. Beautiful!!

  • @Lovelytenor1

comes close?!? wunderlich's rendition is immensely superior. not even close. this is perfection.

  • @ah332

As much of a fan as I am of FW, he does adjust the voice/change regisiters throughout the piece. It is a beautiful performance but as a singer myself, I am in awe of JB's techinical mastery. Nothing one can say can take away the artistry of FW. I appreciate your love of his singing.

  • superior to what? fritz sings the shit out of it NO doubt.....jussi sings it just as well. NO ONE IS BETTER....

  • Bravo Fritz!

  • The best rendition I have heard in my life. Fritz rules!!!!

  • Beethoven's best song. Das beste Lied von Beethoven, ohne Zweifel...

  • You ar right, Ludwig did not wrie too many Lieders.

  • @joanabanyeres

Not as many Lieder as Schubert, but 84 all the same!

  • @joanabanyeres

    About 80!

  • I prefer the native over the school worked, the feeling over the act.

  • testing

  • Con tutto l'amore, grande, che ho per Fritz, Jussi la canta meglio, con molto più partecipazione ::))

  • lo non saprei, son cosi grandi, l due.

  • Sul fatto che siano due grandissimi nessun dubbio. Mi riferivo all'espressionee all'interpretazione IN QUESTO PEZZO, nulla piu' ::))

  • I remember an article on Di Stefano and in the interview he spoke so highly of Wunderlich. This piece shows why. Unbelievable ease and beauty. Thanks for sharing.

  • Of course Barry, They have been the greatest between the greatest, especially singing Beethoven. They are gone , well we shall go some day. Jonas Kaufmann in a different way also gives me a wonderful feeling, the voice is of another quality but l recognize that even if l have pretty good knowledge of the music he sings ,l always l find something new and rich in his interpretation. Of course we have to admit some new singers, they are not too many...

    Thanks Barbara for her comments.

  • @joanabanyeres Kaufmann will not last though.

  • I missed this one until now - shame on me! I only found it because a YT friend just uploaded Nicolai Gedda doing the same song. I admire both men equally and enjoyed both renditions of this lovely song.

  • l love both, Fritz and Nicolai but l prefer Fritz and Jussy, their voices bring my soul until the infinite with the great help of marvelous Beethoven. This piece is also a wonder for the pianist, l adore it

  • Barbara (Oakroom48) also chided me for not bringing Jussi into the equation. I have heard it now and you are both quite right to have done so.

How to rate these supreme musical gentlemen? In their different ways each gives me such listening pleasure that to place one above another is something I could not bear to do.

  • screams? clean the shit out of your ears. wait. did you hear me say that? CLEAN THE SHIT OUT OF YOUR EARS!! BETTER? great.

  • I hope the Caruso he's referring to is David Caruso from CSI Miami and not Enrico Caruso the greatest tenor of all time.

  • i think that is who he meant. but, i do love david in the movie jade. underrated movie. cheers

  • Yes, so it was....

  • Luciano Pavarotti was asked in an interview who was the best tenor of all times. He answered: "Fritz Wunderlich".

  • Yes, so it was.....

  • I don't like the tempo, but the singing is wonderful.

  • Never again will there be a tenor with quite the same sensitivity as Fritz Wunderlich. The world was deprived of beautiful voice and spirit when he died.

  • YOU ARE SO RIGHT.

  • I never thought anyone could match Bjorling in this but Fritz does and then some. He was so great and never had a chance to even hit his prime and was younger then JB who recorded this in his early 40's. Everything he did had the stamp of great singing on it.

  • for the text and translations in various languages see Lied and Art Song Texts Page created and mantained from Emily Ezust

  • danke für dieses schöne Video.Dieses Lied,vor-

getragen von Fritz Wunderlich ist etwas ganz

    exquisites....very beautiful!

  • So beautiful. I'm surprised that this piece of Beethoven's isn't a bit more well known

  • this piece is rearded as the LIEDER to sing if one is a tenor. every REAL fan knows this piece along with the first song cycle ever by anyone by ludwig 'an die ferne geliebte'!!! now thats a song!! cheers

  • Please tell me, is that a photo of Beethoven? I never thought of such a thing existing- is it legitimate?

  • Well, dear friend lover of great music and tenors, l really don't know which picture of Beethoven is the real one, l use for the videos pictures found in Google. l presume that some are copies of some kind of movies, and the big one very known is painted. well l am sorry that l cannot give you more information, ,meanwhile we can listen to Fritz, end enjoy his voice. Cheers. joana.l shall also post this Lied sung by Bjoerling, another great tenor

  • Thanks. I posted some Wunderlich myself, and other great opera pieces- you might care to see them.

Bjorling was great indeed, but I personally prefer Wunderlich :)

  • In my opinion, Wunderlich was a much better singer, musician, and artist that Jussi could have ever hoped to be.

  • Jussi was more an opera singer, but his voice is also like the voice of Wunderlich a very beautiful voice. Fritz German , natürlich was better.

  • but, fritz didnt sing HALF the roles jussi sang. so, with that being said, i think its quite hard to say that fritz was a better musician or artist. i am a fan of fritz but they cannot be compared on this level. cheers...

  • fritz didn't sing half the roles because he lived fifteen years less than bjorling and he sung so much more lieder.

bjorling is one of the greatest tenors to have ever lived, but wunderlich is the best. vocally and artistically.

and may i suggest to "joanabanyeres" that you change the title to this video..."ludwig van beethoven?" how about "wunderlich-adelaide" or something?

  • I'd say Wunderlich was certainly one of the greatest singers of Austrio-German/Viennese music, but to say he was the greatest is a little bit excessive. My personal favorite is Enrico Caruso, but, to each his own.

  • Fritz unfortunately died too young

  • in that case I think you've yet to discover what makes Jussi so great. They were gods in each their own fields, so to speak.

  • Adelaide, que bella cancion y que gran interpretacion! Muchas Gracias!

  • Indispensable escucharle, inolvidable.Otra ves gracias Joana

  • Heaven

  • Only Jussie can match this way of singing. Unbelievable
