  • The concerts of this time and years around were the the best of Pt.Ravishankar. Thanks for sharing

  • Out of this world, two masteros at their best.

  • thank you for this very old & valuable recording

  • Read about the unbelievable adventures of Dr. Lloyd Miller traveling and performing through the Middle East and beyond by going to the jazzscope website and clicking on Sufi, Saint & Swinger.

  • nice one

  • Thanks Dr. Miller... wonderful videos

  • If people would try the sitar, sarod, oud, rabab, violin, flute, piano, upright bass, cello, viola and tabla I think world music would improve.

I spend my day's playing these very same instruments and I have a rich life. Your video's on u-tube are an inspiration for me.

  • Dr. Miller,

I am with you about world music. I am playing mostly rabab, sarod, oud and violin every day. Sometimes I also play cello, viola, upright bass, piano, flute, sitar and tabla, If other people would try these instruments world music would be much improved.

I have seen you on u-tube and you have been an inspiration for me.

  • Dr. Miller,

I am with you on the situation with music. I think it's because everyone is playing guitar. I have several guitars including a classical instrument. But I spend my day's playing mostly violin, rabab, sarod and oud. Some day's I play piano, flute, upright bass, cello, viola, sitar and tabla. If others would try these instruments then I bekieve the music of the world would improve. I have seen you on u-tube playing various instruments and you have been an inspiration for me.

  • Raviji and his daughter Anoushka began their concert at the univ. of Florida in 2006 with this Raag. Right around sunset too!

    spelbinding

  • Graet Job simply amazing.....

  • Absolutely mindblowing.... perfect technique, Indian classical music at its very best...this beautiful raga is also known as AMBIKA (LITTLE GODDESS MOTHER) in the ancient texts

  • Salam. Yes this was one of the Shiraz Arts Festival performances at the Hafezieh in about 1970, maybe one year earlier. I wasn't at this Shiraz Festival but at all the others until they ended in the late 70s. Dr. Lloyd Miller

  • Is this Hafezieh or Takhte Jamshid(Persepolis)? It looks very much like the 1967(?) art festival celebrating 2500 years of Persian monarchy ( Shahbanu was in attendance). In fact I was there in Persepolis that night..Ravi Shankar took the stage at around midnight and finished with the beautul Mishra Piloo ( my requested raga-I was his host!) in thumry style around 5AM. I remember Ravi Shankar had a row with NIRT about the lighting which was not to his liking!

  • absolutely incredible

  • Ah, magical madhuvanthi...

  • great proformance,tks for posting.

  • Amazing performance!

The great masters remain an inspirational source for generations to come. Wonderfull how Ustad Allah Rakha responds instantly to the melody while maintaining the structure of Roopak taal....

thank you so much for sharing this with us

  • I'm sure they were astounded and very moved. I love the raw microphones without much studio. You can clearly hear everything! You can see in Ravi's face and eyes his total joy and pleasure with the performance of Madhuvanti. FROM IRAN - LIVE! Was this broadcast live over Iranian Radio? Long Live Ravi Shankar and his music which inspired me so much in my youth.

  • PART 1 - Ravi Shankar at his finest! From beginning talk and Alap to Jhala and climatic tihai end, this is one of the best recordings I heard of him. Allah Rahka is in excellent form as usual. As I listened and watched this video, I kept thinking to myself that this was the period in which Ravi AND Allah were in the top condition. I was also wondering how the Iranian audience was receiving this strange music, and what was going through their minds.

  • beautiful!

  • My favorite raga, perhaps because I experience the mood Madhuvanti represents so often nowadays. What an excellent performance. (Speechless)

  • Yes, I was wondering when someone would remark how beuatiful this performance by Raviji was. The atmosphere of the Hafezie on a placid Shiraz evening was a perfect venue for spiritual and calming yet mentally challenging virtuoso Indian music. Too bad that in recent decades almost all the music in the world has become an obnoxious mindless soulless thumping. I wonder if the world will ever vomit the horrid noise imposed on us and return to real quality arts of ethnic traditions. Dr. Lloyd Miller

  • Maybe the world needs something that put back the things in that place where technology wasn't so omnipresent...

  • It must have been quite a place, a special air shared with a special audience. That clip you posted of Ram Narayan is really great too, but with an altogether different divine quality. Thank you for your post contributions.

  • WOW !!
