Ugh... another "let's poke fun of a backward people commercial". Thailand fits all requirements for Modernity and from what I know.. Changmai Province remote? Not only is it the one of the most populated but also home to the 2nd largest city in Thailand. Not even believable were it in the Isan province since starting back 30 years ago, the young people migrate to the cities. Let's just hope Eastwood's film Gran Torino shows a better representation of Hmong people. I think Hmong people have been more acknowledged because of Eastwood [well not really, but he wanted realistic hmong people not look a like chinese/japanese/what you have kinda folks], and of course Hmong people themselves. The Hmong Thais in this commercial are NOT as "pure" as BK wants all of us to believe. BK is exploiting the stereotype that the Hmong are no more than primitive "tribesmen", and therefore they have no concept of a burger. Far from it. The Hmong in Thailand drives Toyota Tundras, and can very tell the difference McDonalds and Burger King! Both chains can be found in downtown Chiangmai! Yes, the Hmong DO have a word for "burger," it's called "Ber-Gerh," in Thai. Hmong Thai have TVs too.
