hahah yes they have seen a burger before lol haha Xab Thao and Hnub lis has... they fry the burger ans eat it with rice lolhahah.... if you seen the movie you'll know what i mean
it's just an advertisement, i don't know why alot of hmong people are getting offended over this. i'm hmong myself and i do not find this one bit offended. actually it's good to see hmong people in big business advertisement.
it's funny that burger king is advertising that people with completely different taste pallets from their target audience prefer the whopper. big deal. i still don't like it.
From Thailand, I do work for creative but i 'm really hate this campaign... about the idea it's quite interesting to tell the message that Bk is better delicious than Mc but why don't all you guy think more.. Up country people
do really want the berger ? what if all these guy want it how could you do ? will they have to work hard to buy it? Thank!
why, do they eat their shit and dont eat normal food therefore making shit taste good to them and normal food tasting like shit because if they were used to eating shit then i guess they would prefer mc donalds over normal food because they were used to the shitty taste
Ugh... another "let's poke fun of a backward people commercial". Thailand fits all requirements for Modernity and from what I know.. Changmai Province remote? Not only is it the one of the most populated but also home to the 2nd largest city in Thailand. Not even believable were it in the Isan province since starting back 30 years ago, the young people migrate to the cities. They have their own rock bands, malls, fast food, jeans etc. An all around false and insulting commercial.
I think it would be a hard battle between the big mac and the whopper for the hmong people because those are the only two burgers they like and know of.
Equating eating burgers to having sex is giving sex a really bad name. It's like calling someone a "Napalm virgin" or something like that. Personally, I'd love to be a whopper virgin. And wear a whopper chastity belt so my mouth doesn't get raped by BK or MD or any other taste offender.
"They don't even have a word for burger" - omg their liek so backwards lolz. *rolls eyes* how about we compare the whopper to the food these people normally eat? I think I know who'd win.
you guys know what...FUCK BK! seriuosly...do they even know who the hmong people are!? no one has ever fucken cared or known about us hmong people, and all of sudden we are being tested to see which fucken burger is the best!? for those who thinks this is funny then fuck you! because you also know nothing.
Amazing. People complain that America doesn't do enough to feed the starving kids in third world countries...Then when we try to export some flame broiled beef people STILL complain. You can't have it both ways. At BK....you can have it YOUR way
how the hell could anyone be proud of this commercial. yeah we're on tv but for a stupid war between two fucking greasy ass burger joint that don't give a fuck about people's health. shit i'd rather make own fucking burger. chuck norris tears cures cancer, too bad he doesn't cry.
Hmong virgins? to find this commercial funny is to ridicule the accomplishment of all Hmong people across the globe...from the hills of Thailand to complex metropolitan of Beijing, Tokyo to Minneapolis to New York--to London-Paris-...laugh all you want....just remember you're laughing at your own existence: ignorant, fool, uneducated, uncivilized, undisciplined, and oh yeah a "virgin" to the great taste of "lives and styles in the world." Oh yeah or maybe even the lack of sexual experience.
funny, burger king flew all the way to thailand to give indigenous hmongs a taste test! little did they know, indigenous hmongs live right here in america! burger king has some uneducated fawkz working in the r&d department!
Let's set the record stait..Hmong and Mein people has live together in China longer than any of you been alive.
The people in this commercial is Hmong people and yes they do speak Thai because that's like you or I speaking ENGLISH. Be proud of who we are and it's wonderful to see our people on TV.
Keep in mind people all these commerical is in a Third World Countries, they may have TV, Radio, and Computer but not all could afford a burger. Hmong People live on!!!!
People! Don't be too negative about stuff like this. Just be glad to be seen and known. Is Hmong the only people BK chose to be in the Whopper Virgins commercials? I don't think so!
be glad to be seen and known? do they really know anything about us? or are they just doing this so they can sell more of their #1 killing burgers!? and yea why did they chose us? hummm....maybe because we are known to be such poor people! ever think of it that way? why should our people be the ones to be tested on? because we're poor and most of us has never seen a hamburger before?
Agreed. Actually, most Hmong people have seen bread, meat, tomatoes, lettuce, pepper sauce, [cuz hmong people don't have mayo lol] and onions before. it just takes the American man to put it together to make something called a burger. Hmong people pretty much grow their own organic food.
Not surprised at all. There isn't any Hmong I know that is smart enough to be up there. It took African American nearly 300 years to get there. No other ethnic groups had come close. It will be awhile.
Yeah, this is F#@$! up man... To think that our people are getting killed over there (genocide) and Burger King was totally unaware? Shows you how pathetic Burger King is... For those Hmongs that don't find this offensive... you're either way too young or you don't have Hmong pride.
still, what a bad representation of hmong people. WTH whopper virgins? WTH's up with the tribal music in the bg... nothing remotely hmong about it. BAD REPRESENTATION of hmong people.
Let's just hope Eastwood's film Gran Torino shows a better representation of Hmong people. I think Hmong people have been more acknowledged because of Eastwood [well not really, but he wanted realistic hmong people not look a like chinese/japanese/what you have kinda folks], and of course Hmong people themselves. It only took them less than 30 years to get to where they're at. Maybe that's why the Lao are getting so upset at hmong people for being smarter than they think they are.
No I haven't seen it yet. I dunno why hmong people are making a big deal on how it's a race issue, when it's really what the hmong community was back in the day. the film is suppose to be dated back in the 90's. There's always a race issue in everything.
yea it may put us on the spot light but it just kind of show that american people are such low life that they will use anything just to promote thier products its all about the "bling" urrrr...
As silly as it may seem, this commercial definitely earned us some spotlights in the world. So, be proud that BK chose us. Most of the good commercials are the silly ones anyway. This is definitely a thumbs up for me...
By the way, don't be overly sensitive about this commercial. I don't believe BK intents to offend Hmong by doing this commercial. There's nothing wrong with having a little humor.
No doubt, I believe it is great that the Hmong people continues to earn public recognition through the television mass media. However, I also feel that having the Hmongs depicted in such a way is a bit derogatory. Hence, it will add to nothing more than the general stereotypes. (Should anyone agree, leave me a thump up rating.)
The Hmong Thais in this commercial are NOT as "pure" as BK wants all of us to believe. BK is exploiting the stereotype that the Hmong are no more than primitive "tribesmen", and therefore they have no concept of a burger. Far from it. The Hmong in Thailand drives Toyota Tundras, and can very tell the difference McDonalds and Burger King! Both chains can be found in downtown Chiangmai! Yes, the Hmong DO have a word for "burger," it's called "Ber-Gerh," in Thai. Hmong Thai have TVs too.
There must be something terribly wrong with people going to fast foods.

1st off, I am Hmong
2ndly, I used to like Big Mac but not anymore
3rdly, BK likes to push the envelope in their ads
But over all, we Hmong aren't the only people used in the Whopper Virgin Ad campaign
Finally, I thought it was intriguing for BK to showcase us Hmong, just as Gran Torino, who knows, maybe Nike is next
