@DrGonz01 baldrick often calls blackadder "Mr B" not 'Bean' this searies of blackadder pre-dates Mr Bean by three years. So the charecter mr Bean didnt even exist at this point.

Great show and my favorite Rowan Atkinson character, but can someone explain wht happened to the missing line starting at 3:01. Baldrick goes "They seek him here, they seek him there, those frenchies seek him everywhere. Is he in heaven or his he in hell" and Blackadder finishes with "and what's that revolting garlic smell." I had a tv recording that had that line now I never here it :(

Oddly enough a lot of French humour doesn't direct itself at the English, something I find quite ironic, considering our history.

They do, however, make fun of the Belgians quite a bit. Who funnily enough, the English make fun of quite a bit as well.

As far as I'm concerned that bit is no more or less offensive than a lot of other France-related things in this episode so why pick on the song?

There was only ever one bad thing about blackadder and that was the first series, not that funny. Then no.2 came about and everyone loved it and the rest was immense

@fauxbrains I met him because I'm a huge musical theatre nut and he was in Hairspray, I also saw him in Wicked but I didn't go backstage. Can't remember what I said to him but he was nice enough. I would LOVE to meet Rik, I loved Drop Dead Fred as a kid and I loved him even more after I watched Blackadder. Going to the theatre is the best way to meet people, I've met so many talented and wonderfully generous people that way. :)

@MKShaggy1985 I believe the first series wasn't exactly rubbish, but was made to look it by the such brilliance of the next 3 series. The idea of blackadder degrading in social class but becoming more intelligent through the series really paid off as Atkinson suits that sort of character, and making baldrick "thicker" too. The inclusion of Hugh Laurie really did it for me in the third series ( my favourite). Ben elton joined the writing team in series two, which made a hell of a difference too!
