@tatsareover They never said they're a genius band, they usually say the opposite actually. He said they maintain integrity in that they don't give into making music for the masses. He said he's not into screamo bands, not that he doesn't like metal...big difference there... They play what they want to play though, so they like metal at least a bit. You not liking them is fine, but don't blame it on them glorifying themselves, cuz they don't much at all.

I can tell you right now that he most likely at least still enjoys it a little bit. The things he says make it seem like he's not into the music anymore in these interviews, but if you listen more carefully, he's only knocking bands that play exclusively for breakdowns and screaming. He's knocking that specific aspect of metal and just lumps it in as metal.

He doesn't like the big 4, he says "except for Slayer" because they never wrote music that's commercialized. Screaming and breakdowns are right now what's being commercialized in metal, so that's what a lot of bands write. That's what he's against. Him liking country doesn't affect what I think about him. All That Remains guys like rap/country/

Slayer's the only one who's been doing what they wanted to do with music, so he respects them. Metallica had been doing what's been trendy since 1990, and Megadeth followed soon after. Anthrax may be the worste...after Aerosmith's success with the rap/rock thing, they did the rap/metal thing. It's just...they've all done stuff that is douchey.
