It's interesting to see so many hints of a Garret/Viktoria relationship. How the tone of their voices become less edgier with each cutscene. How they seem to be flirting in Masks. How Garrett begins Thief 2 by stating he equates "feelings" with "getting caught" then ends up chasing Viktoria in the last mission because he feels for her. Even their silhouettes in the cutscene for Casing the Joint echoes those of Basso and his lady in Running Interference's cutscene.

i don't really understand the happenings...the cultivator turns a certain gas into rust gas? and this...destroys plants?... but viktoria is saying that this gas will destroy all that they know?! huh i don't get it? what is this gas really doing? and what does the becon do? and why is only karras dying and no one else? why do they need plants in the cathedral? sorry im not english

The rust gas destroys organic matter (trees, grass, animals, people, anything alive) All that they know.

Garrett turned on the beacon, which set off all the rust gas masks on Karrass' servants.

Garrett shut the cathedral, so it was all enclosed and shut from the world.

Because his servants were in the cathedral with Karrass, only he died. Garrett escaped in time.

Viktoria sacrificed herself as plant material, to make the reaction last stronger.

I always wondered if all of this could have turned out completely different if ol' Victoria had not been in such a rush.

I mean seriously - what kind of *elaborated* plan was this? "Garrett, based upon some rumours, here's what we do: we could try *this*, then *maybe* do that, and *if* that works out, we could probably do *this*!" How about letting the man do his work, sneak in, and kill Karras with one well placed arrow?

Ok, that *might* have spoiled the gaming experience, but jeez! Women! ^^

As you remember, Karras had sealed himself in his protective chamber, so he could not be killed directly. And they needed to get Builder's Servants out of the city, to avoid needless deaths. But yes, that plan was a bit rushed.

I've only played Deadly Shadows, and I'm a fan of Viktoria even though I haven't played the games with her in a prominent role. But I don't understand how she's killed herself, it's like, she's either stabbed herself with the vines, or planted herself to the ground, then her face splits in half and all these vines go everywhere, does this kill the Karras Bots or just put the vines everywhere, plus I don't know how she actually kills herself.

She kills herself to use the vines that her body leaves behind to help Garrett kill the bad guys. I don't think she actually kills herself, she looks like she's letting the robots kill her. The robots shoot bombs, you see her get hit by them, and when her head splits i think it's the bombs exploding.

She kills herself so that she can fill the place with plant life, thats what the vines are about... if you listen at start of video she says that the rust gas reacts with the plant life which will destroy the place along with Karras in it!

HEY! The level following this cutscene is completely filled with those big machines that have the bombs.

THERE IS A WAY TO DESTROY THEM!!! Keep on hitting them with your blackjack and after a couple hits, they'll fall apart.

No need. Just hit them in the back with a water arrow. Steam powered. Hit the furnace, and they fall. Duh. It's mentioned a few times in the game, here and there.

Close Quarters isn't a good way. And the Blackjack/Sword doesn't hurt them.

yeah, a water arrow does work. but when's the last time you had enough water arrows to destroy ever single machine. listen. the blackjack does hurt them. keep on hitting the back of them (the part with the boiler) and they will fall apart!

Yeah, but how often do you find one of the buggers without SOMETHING to watch it's back? I find that usually you can sneak past them without too much hassel. They can't aim very well, and they're slow. Just leg it. And that final mission doesn't have the "No killy" rule. So the guards aren't as much of a problem.

I'd rather deal with them at range. That, and I tend to stock up on Water Arrows.

Mmm. Do Fire arrows work against them? Or are boiler attacks the only way?

i believe they do work, i know mines do. i think it would be an awful waste to use them though.

u can also try to lure them under one of those crushing pistons or elevators. that'll destroy them too.

Well, I usually find mines a bit touchie to use with humans. The Explosive ones, anyway. You can always sword/blackjack/suprise arrow them. But you can't as easily on the Robots.

I've yet to actually get this far into Theif 2, but I remember the Eavesdropping mission, earlier. The Mechanical Worker that I found there couldn't really chase very well. I think I just legged it past it a few times without really worrying about it, after the first encounter. It certainly couldn't aim very well.

Garrett has shown himself to be a highly practical, pragmatic fellow. The fact that he's given to an outburst at learning of her demise seems to indicate that she meant a great deal to him as a person. He certainly didn't do as much when he learned about Cuddy's imminent death.

On a more literary note, there's a lot of chemistry between the two. Certain cinamatography techniques, such as romantic music, whilst showing them close together in a reflection help this. The "Close working relationship" seems to subtly point towards this, particularly as there's a slightly pause between those words, and the later ones showing that said relationship
