It was backstage at this concert that I met Shawn and commented on his guitar and then we played a couple of songs together and I knew why I loved playing guitar. joelsamuelpresents- Welcome to my second channel on youtube.
Shawn Phillips is truly amazing in his powerful deliverance of his music. His lyrical prowess is unbending and I had the opertunity to see him in concert on May 4th here in mpls, mn at the Guthrie theater, wow, he still has it after all these years. Get to see him again in July in St Cloud on the 30th. His DVD from the 2008 reunion concert held at the MN Zoo titled "Living Collaboration" is out, its a DVD of wonderment and awesomeness, go purchase it, you'll be very pleased indeed.........
I never did any serious drugs back in college ('72-'76)....but I had a double Shawn Phillips cassette tape and would drink beers and reflect..........and sort of pretend I was on an acid trip.....:)
Just a small part of all the video archives that I managed to capture and present for everyone freely on youtube. Please tell your friends you saw it on joelsamuelpresents
I saw Shawn Phillips in Vancouver in 1972 and loved him before that and still do and always will. He is the best! My friends would always try to remember all the words to his songs and one friend did and does still in Montreal!
For those who might want to know Shawn Phillips is doing a 65 th Birthday tour in the US and Canada. Check his web site for the dates and times. Looking forward to seeing him!
I saw him in the late 90's at the Brasserie St-Pierre, in Bathurst, New Brunswick Canada. It was a small bar, with maybe 150 people jammed in there. It was amazing, very intimate.
I saw him in 1977 at Texas Hall in Arlington. One of, if not the best, solo acts I've ever seen. He had everyone in the palm of his hand. Played like a demon with a five octave range. I remember he had a retractable key ring on his belt, like he was going to hop back in a truck when he was done.
I have the whole concert where Shawn talks more and I am posting it for all you Shawn Phillips fans- I love his music myself and had a moment where I played guitar with Shawn and I played this Gibson Dove and he told me its story- too bad my camera was already set up and this was the days when camera were not camcorders.
I first heard Shawn Philips in 1968, his beautiful composition 'Storm' will always remain one of my favourite songs. I managed to find the record again released on wounded bird records WOU 6006, it was Shawns second release and contains some real treasures. Check it out.
Shawn Phillips and Leon Russell are my 2 favorites. Thanks for posting. I saw Shawn in concert in the 70's in San Antonio..he was awesome! I have most of his stuff from the 70's. I don't necessarily agree with his political views, but he's a great musician and his music was the soundtrack of my youth.
I have his whole concert this way and also some of it was a 3/4 inch two camera iso remix with audio by Jim Coleman so hopefully i will post the rest of it someday in some form or another thanks for watching and enjoying Shawns music and my library from some of my past productions this is circa 1987/88
Please post Now! We enjoyed Shawn in Atlanta during the early 70's at Great Southeast Music Hall, and maybe 8? years ago at the Freight Room in Decatur, GA. Thanks!
Yea, my future wife and I were at the Freight Room in Decatur, GA too. Just before Shawn was about to begin we all could hear a freight train in the distance and we all sat there enthralled as it came closer, roared past the Room and faded off into the distance. Everyboy's eyes were bright and jaws dropped as Shawn said, "Wow...let's do that again." It was a magical experience - one of Shawn's Moments.
This never before unedited iso camera was found in the library of joelsamuelpresents and was Joel's personal camera it remains unedited and therefore is just for die hard fans of the great music legend- We hope you enjoy it.
The name of the brown album with his face in the front, back of his head and long hair on back is second contribution. My favorite album of Shawn's is Collaboration, if you have never heard it, you should. It's great, early 70's. Raised my kids on his music, they love him too.

A trubador in the truest sence! His lyrics tell such magical stories. "Song for Sagittarians" is one of my favorites.
