Can't be playback. They use an echo filter for some parts. At 2:54 it's definitely live. In some of the audience filmed videos you can hear him without the microphone. He also sounds slightly flat here.

it's live, the echo is a filter they add in. It's programmed to occur at the right times. He used to sing Star with the original reverb and echo but since then they stopped doing that. In a recent performance of that song he rehearsed it perfect, but decided to improvise the final performance by singing everything differently and some parts without the falsetto. There was quite a bit of echo in this performance. I know he's trying to do something new but he REALLY doesn't need to do that -_-
