@Ailorification seems a bit daft arguing about the relative merits of an empire that fell over 1500 year ago and was in decline in the last 200 years of its history. All Empires fall. Eventually. Funny Italians defending Rome. In its early history, most of Italy was enemy to Rome. Etruscans, Cisalpine Gauls, Greeks and Phoenicians to the South. Italy was certainly not Rome initially. Rome owed alot of its military success to copying the etruscans and Greeks.
@Ailorification Well, there were other civilisations at the time. The Parthians were incredibly advanced. Actually, they defeated every Roman Army and took Emperor Valerian captive. Carthage and Phoenicia were very advanced. Of course the old civilisations of the mid and far East were in full swing. So to say that every one else was a Barbarian savage is a bit dubious. And Rome did stop destroy Carthage (who knows what they might have produced) as well as Gaul (becoming a true civilisation)

@CJ261986 well of course it does, but I was being flippant. In the modern age, a rising power like Rome would be viewed as a totalitarian Fascist state. And hell, maybe that s just what America is...
ROME IS THE GREATEST EVER!! LONG LIVE ROMA!!! All the tribes conquered, that was the way of the land. There is just a lot of envy and jealousy over the 1000 year Roman Empire. The Caesars were great. Rome did a lot to civilize the world. In fact, Rome was "civilization" back in the days of old. No Empire is ever perfect. But Rome's power and prestige is testament to their 1000 year RULE. And they rule today as well! ROMA VICTOR!!
Romans you better hide under the rocks, the Celts are coming back, this time for powerful than ever, this time the Celt people and their brothers tribes, will finish Rome for ever.

@bobduvar Glatiators are not the same as soldiers my friend... to die to a greater cause is not the same thing like die in the arena... And you should have more respect for the european culture and the history in general...
all the glory etc. is cool to some extent, but the Romans were terrible in terms of civilization and humanity. remember, Caesar slaughtered around 2mil Gauls during his conquests in order to repay his debt. then there were the Dacians that were completely eradicated and many things today in Rome was built with Dacian gold... warfare technology was advanced, but not others forms.. roads were already built by the celts, the orient had an advanced technology as well. the Romans mainly borrowed it!
@floresebu that is a very romanticized image of the Romans you have; you are entitled to whichever opinion naturally, but don't be "blind" to roman propaganda and brutality. Women were basically regarded as slaves unlike the celts; constant destruction of advanced civilizations. The Minoans (2000 BC.) already had advanced plumbing; the Pelasgians had an advanced Alphabet by the 2000th BCE. The Guals had they extremely advanced calendar which was tremendously accurate etc.
Not that the ancient Romans were angels. But with the fall of the Roman empire a lot of technology and civilization went lost. After the Roman era the European continent fell into the Dark Ages. Only centuries later the technologies which the Roman had were rediscovered. Maybe if the Roman empire didn't fell we would have been more technologie advanced. And we would be part of the Roman empire. Atleast we in Europe, and probably no America and other former colony countries.
"Then Jesus said unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one."
With justice he judges and makes war. 12 His eyes are like blazing fire, and on his head are many crowns. He has a name written on him that no one knows but he himself. 13 He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God. 14 The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean. 15 Out of his mouth he commands a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations. "He will rule them with an iron scepter."

@TesalionLortus That's from the British-Italian serial ROME. Battle of Philippi between Octavianus/Marc Anthony and Brutus/Cassius. For a change, I don't know, where the scene 1:20 comes from.
@centrum99 ok- I don't notice bofore that this one is from ROME and it's battle of Philippi- alone this scene seems to be epic fight, but if I good remember in Rome battles weren't made so good, it were only short moments and especially Battle of Thapsus- if I good remember it was only battlefield (after battle) and description about it... But anyway serial is made good;) I very like serial-Cicero. And scene with fire balls is propably from movie Centurion.
When people like a video, it get much views. When it gets much views, it automatically also get some dislikes of stupid people who are trolling around on Youtube.
This is one of those great videos on youtube. Great work. ;)
Arthur is a fictitious story. King Arthur fought the Saxons that sought to conquer Brittania. Now the Roman formations in Gladiator were accurate to a point. according to their military history. However "producers always want to change things. The defensive column at 1:23 is correct. It defends against an ambush. The Roman lines also form up into long columns with their shields together to withstand a frontal assault. They also used calvary to outflank the enemy on the sides.
One thing must be said....9 AD Armenuis kicked ass at the Varusbattle...On that days the roman army was destroyed by a couple of teutonic/germanic tribes. There was also no glory by the romans, it was the darkest day in their history....only by the way :-)
But egyptians invent toothpaste :D

Well, we Batavians, together with other German tribes stopped those mofo's at the river Rhine. After that the Romans struck a deal with us.
Fuck them, just another evil empire based on invading other country's.
