I think the ping pong balls are made of the same or similar material as old film stock this was called somthing like nitro celulos and was natorius for catching fire in old projectors that ran verry hot. If im wrong someone will no dout let me know.

@ruger9617 Yes, Nitrocellulose is correct. Also called gun cotton, it is the combination of nitric acid (the same stuff use to make nitroglycerine) and cellulose, which is effectively the stuff that makes up the cell walls in most plants. Makes for a nice combustible material.
