Very useful tips. Some tricks and filming things may have been similar to DP's 'vids, but that's fine. There was plenty of content, color changing in particular, that I learned that seemed useful to know in the future. If you're really serious about it, like he says in this video, you need to spend money. Sony Vegas 8 is a good editing software, but it's pretty pricey at 450. Pinnacle Studio Ultimate is about...180 maybe, idk for sure. Pinnacle is a good starting software. Another good starting audio software is Audacity. You can download that one for free.

If you want to do some serious effects work, try a program like Adobe After Effects, Boris FX, or Shake and Motion.

Also, you could use Final Cut Pro/Express as your editor if you're on a Mac, like me. Machinima isn't just for PC people.
