  • great vid!

  • nice..but hope it'll be clearer!

  • awesome soundtrack Franz forever

  • Stupid camera man chews like a camel

  • mcgill is the opposite of depressing... also choose molson

  • looks quite old, grey and depressing?

  • the only frosh where drinking is encouraged... i'm soooo down boys.

  • looks kinda depressing

  • Jesus. The camera guy chewing on his damned gum almost ruins the entire video.

Anyway, cool video. Danish applicant going there in September.

  • Is Concordia University good?

  • The cameraman was chewing gum -_-

  • Hi there, I'm a student from Hong Kong and I applied to Mcgill for a Bsc in physics, though i really want to know if there is anything that links an honours in physics with philosophy somehow? UofT offers a Bsc PhysPhil which is really attractive, but Mcgill>UofT all the way

  • @bumbubbler The honours program at Mcgill Physics only has room for four electives, it is very specialized. The whole point of honours is that is prepares you for graduate study in the field. Do fit in a philosphy minor you would need an extra semester or you could do it you would need a few advanced placement credits. I beleive there is a joint major in math and philosphy though I am not sure.

  • Help me please, I live in India, and want to study Commerce in Canada. Which universities have the best undergrad commerce programs? Queens, McGill, York, U of T, Western ?

  • @IshaanGandhi93 Yes to all of the above. Plus UBC and Concordia supposedly.

  • cool video! i always wondered what rez rooms look like.

  • stop chowing gum

  • I have the same frisbee and printer as you, haha. You play ultimate at McGill? Any good leagues around there?

  • 4:30.. The cameraman is smacking his gum obnoxiously.

Geeze that was driving me crazy.

But this video is great! I'm actually considering coming to McGill and this tour is great!

  • That forest bit was creepy. :P

  • Hey, I'm thinking about Computer Science at McGill. I have an 85% in Advanced Functions (from doing it in grade 11), what average would I need to get in? I plan on being more focused this year (grade 12), obviously, and hopefully getting a high 80s/low 90s average. Is that enough for com sci? Also, I'm taking AP Calculus and AP Computer Science if that matters.

  • @bub4444 It depends on where your coming from. If your coming from Ontario, then you need at least an 85% average to get into the Computer Science program at McGill. Best of luck to ya, aim for the highest average you can.

  • @Gongshow1991 thanks man

  • @bub4444 with 80s/low 90s you probably have a chance to get in, but it's never a guarantee. It depends on the pool of applicants who are applying, it depends on where you are coming from (different quotas apply to different categories of students). You're not guaranteed a spot just because your grades exceed their minimum cut-off.

The majority of students (90%+)admitted to McGill are in the top ten percent of their class, so let that be a guide as to your chances.

  • So Montréal is a fairly flat city, with only one big hill on the entire island, so of course all of the dorms are built up on the side of the one big, steep hill. It makes for some cold, slippery commutes down to class during the winter months. And long climbs back from downtown after a night of overindulgence.

  • why do only boys get stuck in the basement? :S

  • I heard that McGill has a Quidditch team. Is this true?

  • I take it the shower room isn't coed. :(

  • @TheUnspool It is.

  • @mcgilltour lol can you expand on that a little bit... just HOW coed is the shower room O.O...

  • @Passcode486 I suppose that's up to you

  • too sad thig guy is in Mech Eng, loser

  • what a loser

  • Montreal's got an awesome nightlife, I've visited the campus, but study in Boston. I agree, it is definitely a tier one university in Canada in my opinion. Considering it to be a public research university with lack of funding compared to private institution, it fares well with the top institutions. Good vid.

  • Is there a rivalry between McGill University and the University of Toronto like there is between Oxford and Cambridge?

  • @NicolasJz The Rivalry is between McGill and Queens, mostly in sports.

  • I find it suspicious that McGill has a faculty of religions.

It does not become an university to lecture a pseudo-science.

It puts McGill University on the same level as Temple University; Liberty University and Oral Roberts University.

is there also a faculty of Astrology and a faculty of Homeopathy at McGills ?

  • almost every single reputable institution has religion studies

  • @zimmr77 : I see. What I don't get is why universities give Theology too.

People studying the religions of the word is no problem, but that an University actually lectures about the qualities of supposed "gods" and present that as real information, that is baffling and un-scientific.

Theology belongs in the church, not in the University.

    Lecturing

  • @Oranjeklant the study of theology is no different than the study of philosophy and given the importance of religion and the degree to which it guides behaviour (whether one likes it or not), its very relevant. Not everything that is taught in the University is scientific or objective. There are many subjective areas of study. Positivism has been around for 200 years. Understanding the broader course of our history requires an understanding of epistemelogical perspectives beyond science.

  • @wussyme : Is theology's place in McGill University centering on theology's methods being appropriately theoretical and scientific or does theology requires a pre-commitment of faith by its practitioners?

In some contexts, theology has been held to belong in institutions of Higher Education primarily as a form of professional training for Christian ministry. Is this true also for McGill's ?

What job can I get after completing this study ?

  • @Oranjeklant McGill does not provide professional theological training, not at the grad or undergrad level. None. Anyone can do a Bacc in Theology. It does not require students to be Christian, though it is obviously the students who wish to be ordained who will find the program most useful.

  • @Oranjeklant Theology is subsumed under the Faculty of Religious Studies, which seeks to understand a variety of religions and contextualize them and their impact in the contemporary world. Students doing the Bachelor of Theology are eligible to take those more pluralistic courses as part of their program.

McGill does offer grad programs that are affiliated with Montreal theological colleges, but the work they do at mcgill is purely academic.

  • @Oranjeklant I can't speak to the methodological orientation of the program, as I never took theology or religious studies while at McGill. I would doubt McGill forces an uncritical view, however.

You can not get a specific job after completing your BTh. It's as useful as a BA. If you get one of the Master's degrees, you can use it towards your requirements at one of Mtl's theological colleges.

  • Thank you for the tour!=)

  • aw, that wasn't very nice.

  • At least we're not covered with brainless idiotic douches. That would be a rather dull environment*.

  • oh really. and where do you go

  • is it a requirement at McGill to be billingual? im just wondering because I don't speak any French at all, besides "bonjur" and "Oui Oui" lol, so if an applicant's ability to communicate in French is mandatory, then im in deep trouble.

  • nope not at all..its an english school and the locals speak both

  • @Shoemaster93 nope! its an eng uni

  • yep theres lots of americans here! i'm from vegas which is kinda far but i've met people from california to and half my friends here are from the east coast ( lots of new yorkers and boston, connecticut, rhode island) and tons of international! i've met people from thailand, egypt, venezuela, london, austria, france, peru, russia, china! lots of people from everywhere!

  • Thank you for answering my question. I look forward to attending McGill. Im a junior in high school rite now, so i still have a couple years. Maybe i'll visit next summer.

  • Comment removed

  • Are there any americans that go to McGill? Im just curious because i'm american and also interested in studying and living in the city of Montreal because its such a great city, i've been there before and i wanna go back. It reminds me of Paris but in North America .

  • I don't go to McGill but I'm in the same boat as you - American wanting to go to McGill and live in Montreal. Great school, I love it. Sent in my application... just got to play the waiting game. My marks are good but not spectacular - 90% average, 30 ACT, 640/620/730 SAT. Good luck, might see ya there lol

  • i looked on the college board website and it says that 38% of first year students had an average high school GPA between 3.5-3.74, and 43% had a GPA between 3.25-3.49. so ur GPA is definately good enough to get accepted

  • yeah, I've been researching the school a lot since I first visited in January. I have the grades, but nothing is guaranteed. Maybe I'm just stressing since McGill is my number one choice haha

  • wat state r u from?

  • Connecticut

  • I'm a U.S. citizen and attended McGill (Class of '75). It was the best decision I could have made. Great school in a great city. At least back in the day, U.S. citizens were "foreign students" and on the same cost basis as other foreign students. (BTW, you might want to lose that "American" thing quick. Canada is part of America and therefore Canadians -- as well as Mexicans and Bolivians -- are Americans. You'll get an earful if you forget.)

  • Thank you for the advice, sir, but im sure i'll forget at least once and some guy that had a bad day is gonna kick my ass for it. I guess its a good thing that Canada has free health care!

  • lol wut?

I'm a Canadian and I have never (and will never) identify as an American, despite living in North America. What else would you call yourself? A citizen of the USA? Cause that is gonna get u an earful.

  • Comment removed

  • @Shoemaster93 of course! about 8 % American, actually..

  • Great preview. I wonder if postgraduate students can have rent options like that.

  • thank you guys!

from Thailand, going to be there next year! ;D

  • can you do one about what there is to do around there? like the town and what to do on campus?

  • can u talk about the medical programs and their requirements?

  • i was wondering if the music program in mcgill is difficult? orchestral, music..

  • Could you do a video on the English Department? Please and thank you ^_^

  • heys guys..I am an IB student studying in Europe and I was wondering what IB grades I need to get into McGill. I plan on doing an Economics degree.

Any comments will be very appreciated

  • Well, try to get grades above 80-85%,you'll be fine if you do that.Keep in mind that they take the bests first.Aim higher,it will be easier later on.

  • i would also like to know but more for a business management course

  • ive heard mid 30s for poli sci. higher than 28, which is the minimum for most canadian universities

  • @MikeHunt89x dude it's mcgill...try 40-45...that might guarantee a 30% change of getting in :P

  • thanks this video is really great! lol @ the desk guy

  • THANK YOU

  • i hope i will be able to get in there can i have some advices on how to get in it would be great

  • What are the chances of getting an individual room or how do you get an individual room? Is there a difference in price between rooms?

    Thanks:)

  • where did you get the carpet?

  • BMH (round building in the middle, ask the people that work there)

  • Does mcGill use a bellcurve for business

  • Wow thanks so much for posting that video. That was actually really helpful.:) I am seriously considering McGill. I am a high school Junior right now and I have a 3.5GPA with a 1500 SAT score ( I am planning on re-taking it). I am not sure if I would be able to get in.

  • Thank you so much! I live in Hong Kong so it's virtually impossible for me to make a trip up there to check it out. I'm torn between McGill and another university in Hong Kong, so really, thank you!

  • Although I appreciate the comment, just because one person has a bad experience with a school does not mean it is a bad school - one school is not perfect for everybody.

  • You are right. However, as I said before, I wish I had someone back in the days to give me some feedback. And to be quite honest, I got very good grades during my degree; that's not the reason. My point is that McGill is overrated and you might be really disappointed when you'll realise that:

1- Cheating is a real problem - I once saw a dude on his cell phone during an exam, the prof saw him and didn't do anything... I'm not kidding :(

2- Most profs don't give a sh*t about undergrad students

  • Im only attending McGill next semester, but my past experience with university leads me to think your points are valid for most universities....

  • There is a lot of "sharing" in my program - mechanical engineering, but final exams are almost always worth 60-100%, and you HAVE to be prepared for those, no sliding between the cracks there...

  • I'm a junior right now, living in Connecitcut, USA, and I really want to go to McGill! I was up in Montreal in January (yes, worst possible weather, but I still loved it) to see their open house, and I'm going back in July to see the school and the city in the summertime.

I have about a 92% average, 3.75GPA, but haven't gotten my SAT scores back. ACT was a 30. Do you think I have a good chance of getting in?

  • You will get in for sure jsut keep that average up, I have a like 87% average between grade 11 and 12 and I got into Electrical engineering. And I would work reallly hard if I was you because internationally it will be very expensive for you so if your marks are good enough an dyou have volunteer work than you could get a scholarship from McGill which would go very far. minumum of 92% avg. for scholarships haha good luck.

  • @remo451

Hey did you ever go to Mcgill? I'm a Junior in CT too and I so want to apply there.

  • charlie parle francais:)

  • Too bad about the cameraman's gum-chewing.

Thank you for making the videos though.

  • is mcgill hard to get into ?

..and what do they look for in applications ?

  • it's a numbers game, not hard to get into if you have grades and good standardized test marks.

  • so basically i just have to get good marks on tests and good grade point averages and i have a good chance at getting in ?

also, should i get involved in leadership/other groups at my highschool ?

and if i want to get in for law, what are some things that i should get involved in, or take in highschool ?

sorry for the long comment, but i really want to get in.

cool video by the way :)

  • leadership/groups don't mean much, all that really matters is marks. it depends on your program, but you should aim for 90% or higher

  • my name is chris McGill AH!

  • are there opportunities to interact with professors at mcgill?

  • you have to create the opportunities I find, but this varies from faculty to faculty. In engineering, at least, the professors are fairly approachable in their office hours.

  • These videos are great! I'm from Pakistan and I just got into McGill for this year's fall semester and I can;t wait to start there. This was an awesome virtual tour of the University =)

  • haha yeah peter ! EX !!

  • Thanks for doing the videos, I've seen all of them. I am a Chinese student, and I'm applying for McGill. Hope I would get in... anyway, a small question, I speak good English, but no French at all, will there be any problem or inconvenience? I will really appreciate it if anybody could help me, it would be even nicer if I could talk to anybody in Management School directly. Thanks a lot!

  • You'll get along just fine speaking english, the city is bilingual. Howeber, you might have difficulties finding a job. You can learn french through classes offered at mcgill and get the hang of it pretty quickly if you make an effort.

I got in for the faculty of arts, and i'm switching to the faculty of management after i get my results :)

    mcgill is gonna be AMAZING

  • What happened to the douglas hall video? ps these videos are great

  • I put it back with crappy music (I got screwed by copyright)

  • You guys must really really like franz ferdinand.

  • 2010 and McGill here I come !! Well .. hope so ^^' <3

  • im praying too! gosh it's a long time to wait :(

  • thanks so much!

    i love your videos.

i'm 16 and McGill is my first choice right now.

  • Mc Gill *sight* can't wait to go there (if I can when I'm older, I'm fifteen)

  • noted.

  • Hey McGilltour! Thanks for the video! It was brave of you to show your room. Thanks for the tip about the carpet too! I'm moving into Garner Hall and was glad to see what I've gotten into. It seems like fun. Did you enjoy Molson?

  • Thanks ! for the memories - I was there from 1972 - 1977, and lived in Molson Hall.

  • thanks for the tour :-) but tell the camera person to stop chewing gum so loudly loll

  • haha...yes, not taken for next time :P

  • *note

  • Thanks for the vids. They're a good help.

  • how hard is it to get into McGill? im a sophmore who gets A's and B's, the occasional C. ne body kno?

  • I just got denied with an 89% average... so who knows how high the average is this year.

  • Which faculty were you applying to?...Because they all have different requirements.

  • Which program you was applied for?Being denied with 89% must be a very competitive program, I guess.

  • need $ and a's n b's no worries

  • Hey, I just wanna say a big thank you. The video McGill tour is a great idea and it's been really helpful! I wasn't sure bout going to McGill next year, but ur videos really helped me make the right decision! Now i cant wait :P

  • yes, but it's really not that bad, there's a private stall if the idea makes you uncomfortable...

  • lol that Charlie guy is cute. Question though: do girls and guys shower next to eachother? :S

  • Er.. 5/25/2007 hasn't happened yet.. You did mean 4/25/07 didn't you? haha

    Great Video though, Thanks!

  • Thank you, i've already accepted McGill but i was really worried about residence and everything, helped out a lot, thanks!

  • Great job Peter!!Thanks for making things real

  • YOU ARE A GOD. Thank you so much! this really helps!

  • thanks man really helped me a lot
