I think it was obvious from the movie, Benjamin did not go to school. He grew up with old folks and learned about the world the way the most people do, from interacting with those around him. There were shots of him learning to read, play piano, etc. This was the 20's,not as many people went to school then anyways, that part of the movie was well thought out and well portrayed.
The dementia as a child, however, wasn't really explained. Plot device.
what i didnt get was that when he was born he was baby sized with an old face and when he was young (real time) he was the normal size, but he had old features, but when he is about to die in the end he is a baby instead of an old man sized baby which would look really fucked
i wanted to see that movie, but 3 hours is too long.. so true though. how could they leave such an important part out like that? maybe it would have made the movie longer.. lol.

I would of killed to watch that movie but everyone around here though it sucked.
