The babys' dropping are encased in a membrane, which makes it easy for the parents to remove them without getting goop all over their beaks. When the babies are older, the droppings will no longer be taken out like that. The chicks will aim outside the nest on their own.
ok....the mom just fed the bird. why is its mouth still open? she didnt feed the others yet greedy bastard. wait till everyone finish eating then you get seconds.
oh people stop talking about the poo. it's a natural thing. everyone does it. even our annoying wailing human babies do it and our human babies have even worse crap compared to these guys. ours are brown and big and sooooo stink-o-rama! how about that?!!!!
D: ahhh poop! why did that remind me of a dry cleaners building? Ya know how they have the suits and stuff on the hooks that go around in a circle *shrugs* any how that was my weird thought for the moment. Really nice vid, I love cardinals. But until today I had no clue what their babies looked like. Youtube rocks :)
baby birds poop in tiny sack-like things so the mother can carry it away and predators won't follow a trail of poop to the nest. Amazing that this is on camera!
my friend knocked over i think a sparrow nest.the babies where fine and cute.i got to hold one,and it was soft.we put them back.the mother didn't reject them, she kept them.
Interesting that one kid gets all the food (on this trip), but it looks like mom or dad is cleaning up the poop of another. I also like how the kids hang out with their mouths open way after mom or dad has left, it seems they finally give up and shut their mouths after a whole thirty seconds!
LOL aww. These wild baby's poop out a sack kind of thing. It's not liquidy outside but in. Best way to describe is its almost like a diaper. It doesn't get all over the nest and the parents take it and throw it out. I volunteer at wildlife rehab place and its so cute, they just lean over and poop and look at you like "Take this! "
In the United States, this species receives special legal protection under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act of 1918, which also banned their sale as cage birds. It is also protected by the Convention for the Protection of Migratory Birds in Canada. It is illegal to take, kill, or possess Northern Cardinals, and violation of the law is punishable by a fine of up to 15,000 US dollars and imprisonment of up to six months.
EVEN IF THEY COULD, YOU MUST NOT HAVE BIRDS AS PETS-- what you can really do is to put up some stuff (food and water) in your backyard so that they can be more comfortable when they visit you ;)
I see a lot of wild birds do this, but today I watched a Robin mother swallow the poop in a nest cam but never saw her spit it out, so now I'm wondering how long they keep that in their crop
what's that something the cardinal ate when she pulled the white thing in her child's butthole? haha gross!! if it's a poop, it will fell off the nest but it didn't when she pulled.. it's like a flesh..
No, it didn't eat it. When baby birds, you know, poop, they poop in little sacs. And to keep the nest clean, the mom or dad takes the sac and throws it out of the nest. They are kinda like little diapers!
I just encounted a birds nest and noticed how impeccably clean it was on the inside which sparked my interest. This confirms my suspicions. Hey, somebody's got to do it.
Yup. I'm afraid it was poo. I had robins build a nest in my gazebo and the mother fed the babies and moments later she ate their droppings. This is what they're required to do in order to keep the nest clean. I was scarred for life when I found out what was happening. XD

I don't know why people get freaked out by fecal sacs. They are encased so it's not that gross.
