@MrShapiroman he's actually a spix macaw. i highly recomend you do a little research on them(sounds like I'm dissing you but im not being sarcastic). I believe they are one of the most endangered animals. tell me what you think
@tobyhel0 You'd have to find a breeder. But they're super expensive. More than $1000 depending on where you get it, and that's not even including a large enough cage which can cost you another couple hundred. A bird like that's an investment!
@BiTTjl Good point. Macaw size cages are generally VERY expensive. But there is a lot more to think about than expense. Birds are a HUGE amount of work. I spend at least an hour in the morning making breakfast and cleaning. I wash dishes (bird dishes) three times a day. They need out time, and individual attention. And not even mentioning when one gets sick... ugh...huge responsibility. Anyone who considers getting a bird should think about all of that first so they are prepared.
marvelous i wish i could have a pair of them my heart would be filled but still its ok if i dont have one i already have a indian rose necked parrot my father gave me even though i wanted a scarlet macaw
this makes me want to buy a male and female and have them mat- wait Birds dont mate this makes me want to buy a female and help it give birth when its ready..
its really sad that these birds are endangered :/ id give any thing to be able to raise one of these. these birds arent just birds to some people, they can very well out live you. i know if i were privileged to raise one, i would treat it like my own flesh and blood
All animals should have a price, that way when they get rare the price will go up and more people will be interested in breeding them.
We will never run out of oil because as we use it up the price raises.
Government protection of wildlife is spotty at best, individuals such as the person who runs parrot.org are much more trustworthy then a democratic government that can change every few years.
Look up "free-market environmentalism", to see more of what I mean.
Even though they are the largest parrots, they should be nick named "Gentle Giants".
I once tried to feed one. Their beaks are HUGE compared to other parrots, so I was scared that it might bite my whole hand off, lol. But the bird took the food from me, moving his beak so slowly when close to my hands that I was almost shocked.
I SRSLY DO WANT TO DONATE. I WANNA DONATE 1 MILLION DOLLARS!!!!!!!!!!!But our family is already backed up on bills and money. And also why does it cost money to save a life?If ppl cared, they would save gods beautiful creations for free!
Do hyacinth macaws eat brazil nuts in the wild? I feed pet store macaws brazil nuts and they open them with ease, their mouth parts seem perfectly shaped to scoop out the nut from the shell!
If you think you are getting a deal with a wild caught parrot forget it. They are apt to be vicious. A Hyacinth Macaw can take a finger offer. If youbuy a parrot go to a professional breeder who hand raises the babies. These bond with humans. Hyacinths aren't the best choice for amatuers. Their food requirements are stricter. Parrots can be very jealous of new additions to your family.
fauna of Brazil is rich unfortunately for you Americans fauna is poor and you have to steal animals from other faunas to put in your zoo when it comes to the U.S. this is a country of people envious of evil that only pence in cash and really greedy and arrogant people bad
@Nero46able Try not to judge all the American zoos too harshly. Some of them breed endangered species as well as encourage people to help donate for reservations across the world.
@Nero46able Perhaps you should do some research on bird poaching. It is most often the indigenous people of a country that catch the birds and smuggle them off to be sold for their own greed of money they know they can get from American and Europe. Watch the videos of birds being poached on parrotsdotorg's channel - clearly those are LOCALS trapping and making by selling those birds.
@mike82y every single parrot in the world (even the smallest of parrots, a parotlet) has the ability to mimic and make words. Some are just much better than others. i know this was an old comment u left but i felt like i had to reply lol sorry.
I used to see all of these beautiful birds like the Hyacinth Macaw and the Moluccan Cockatoo performing all kinds of tricks and hope that I could have one in my future family when I became older. Now I realize how beautiful these creatures really are in their native habitats and that they deserve the dignity of living for a better purpose than our petty entertainment.
They look so happy in the wild where they belong. (Oh, and here's something to add to below: HYACINTHS ARE THE LARGEST PARROT, WHILE KAKAPOS ARE THE HEAVIEST)
Even in Brazil (native country of this bird) are rare to spot these birds. Many biologists are performing huge efforsts in order to breed this bird, but is very difficult and slow.

when i was in brasil they told me that if you killed a man you would get 2 to 5 years but if you hurt this parrot or any other wild parrot you'd get life hahahaha how great is that
I am a parrot owner. And Macaws are by far my favorite. What makes me sad is one, they are endagered. They are two beautiful to be pets, or to be captured. They deserve to be free and wild.
