You need land to grow food, and animals have to live somewhere. The requirements of every person born today displace the needs of some animal somewhere. There really isn't any land that isn't already being utilized.
How isn't there a population problem when so many countries are in 3rd world status, so many people with out jobs, food shelter, medical care etc. A population problem is about more than just space available. We're running out of fresh water, oil, and space to put our waste.
Some argue that modern medicine has allowed people who would have normally died to reproduce, thus weakening the genetic pool. Of course, that won't be a problem once we are able to alter DNA as we please.
