OMG!!! I love that I found this video!!! I am a Haitian American and I always wanted to know how to achieve that authentic Haitian taste in the food that i make! Please do more segments of Haitian cooking recipes!!! I want to learn how to make that picklese! =)
You welcome. Lol do not put in a lot of it into your dish because these spices are really fragrant and strong spices. They will quickly overpower the taste of your food. Trust me i learned that the hard way. So you can but between 1-4 teaspoons to what ever dish you're cooking. With Haitian food there is not exact science. Just add in how much you are comfortable with for a particular dish. Hope that helps.
I have been trying to find ANYONE who could help me understand Haitian Cuisine. Is this some sort of secret??? WHY do Haitians keep their DELICIOUS food so guarded??? I want to learn how to make this type of food but I cannot find a good source of recipes to make this type of food correctly. Can ANYONE PLEASE HELP ME????
AMEN!! im a hatian gurl and my mom taught me how to cook hatian food and it is so good :Dcya guys and by the way i can make any hatian food there is:D!!!!!!
honestly im haitian and i cook alot and u really cant make a recipe for haitian food! We jus go along wit wat our mother tought us, we dont really use mearsurements we jus no if it got to much or to little by lookin at it and tasting it!
This recipe is nice, and I do believe MAJORITY if not ALL Haitian American girls need to take notes. BUT she needs to show how to make "Pen Sho" and "Patte'"..trankslation: haitian Patti and Haitian bread! If I find a Haitian girl that can cook those two things in my age range, I WILL MARRY HER and give her money every week to make me those two things every Sunday after church! AMEN!
I can cook a few receipe. but damn that poisson fri and plantain fri lol! there is waaay too much oil and spices in Haitian dishes. Its fine but not that healthy.within a week you can pile up 12 stones lol!

This is different than the way I make it. I add red pepper for color and I NEVER put a spoon in the epis because then it will start to smell.

My spices mix are very similar to hers, except that I prefer blending them in a mixer...

@Lstlouis777 * 6 Scotch bonnet peppers * 2 cups thinly sliced or shredded cabbage * 1/2 cup thinly sliced or shredded carrots * 1/4 cup thinly sliced or shredded onions * 4 whole cloves * 1 teaspoon salt * 8 to 10 peppercorns ( optional ) * 3 cups vinegar
Instructions:
Snip off the stem of the peppers, cut each into 4 pieces, and keep the seeds.
blankito617 1 year ago
@Lstlouis777 Place hot peppers, cabbage, carrots, onion, cloves, salt, and peppercorn in a quart size jar. Then add vinegar.
Close jar tightly and let sit at at least 24-48 hours before serving.
Serve with meat or fish

@OMANI91 Its a base used in all cooking we put it in rice, meat and veggies. It gives that distinct Haitian flavor to all our cooking.
