  • looking at this video it's hard to brand this neighborhood as a slum. How can it be a slum if there are so many busineses and it generates half a billion USD? The only thing India should worry about is improving sanitation in the area and NOT on tearing Dharavi down.

  • very dirty place. ewwww

  • It's really inspiring, especially as the emoloyment is even higher than the big cities in some places in the world, u got to admire the drive rather than just sitting about feeling sorry for themselves. the west can learn lessons...

  • That's an iron wok (kadhai in hindi). The reddish-brown stuff is sand that he's using to roast whole peanuts in

  • India is more advanced than all western nations. That is a fact that you want to lie about

  • lmfao @ guy answering his cellphone "ALLO"

  • as India grows up, so will dharavi. Why should we be ashamed of reality?

The day India becomes a strong wealthy nation so too will the slums of india prosper

to destroy dharavi now will be to try to erase poverty from india, might as well kill 25% of the nation like in china!

Why can't MUMBAI FOCUS OF FIXING ITS STORM DRAINS FIRST?!?!??!

  • I salute the residents of Dharavi. These people deserve my respect and rightfully rewarded for their hardwork, labour and time in working in such difficult, dangerous and very unpleasant and unhygienic conditions, for boosting and contributing towards the economy of Mumbai and the nation of India. JAI HIND.

  • u suck donkey balls lavakava india wants to progress to but how are u going to get rid of the slums if u destroy them 10000 of people wont have houses and since when is every country progressing to me america looks the same as 20 years ago: homeless, pee smelled cities, gays, u, gas cars, guantanomo.

  • Yes we can have "gold cities" everywhere.

Everyone will always have more than enough to eat, and more than enough shelter, and clean water.

There is an infinite amount of resources and we can all live like kings forever and ever in the gold cities of Lavakavaland.

  • Did you eat your brain for lunch Lavakava?

Let me know how Tent City is developing in the US of Satan A,.

Lavakava posses a racist mindset that states India and other countries raped and occupied by European Colonialism in the last millenium and again in the 21st century, must always have their resources raped, indigenous population (because they are not white) murdered and raped by Britain and the USA and always remain impoverished, bankrupt and poor. Lavakava is a Nazi Racist Cunt.

  • @fgth1984 Why is it that Indians can't handle the mildest criticism without frothing like you do?

  • the poor in dharavi contribute 650 million $ to its economy...that's one of the core of the indian economic boom.....thats amazing..

  • i don't think that's a correct statement, but anyways, "redeveloping" this slum would be a massive violation of human rights, regardless of poverty.

The only way to empower the poor is to now have them legally own the land upon which they encroach.

  • IndiaCobra, nice handle by the way. I like it. I think the video is an effort to shed light on the subject of the unknown value of the slum meaning that is not just a waste land of poor people but there is an actual economy to it. So those residents feel as though they are not recognized by the Indian gov't. In regards to the religion thing I take it you prefer to be on the receiving end of an ass fuck? You're ignorant!

  • they are poor,

but still happyer then rich people!

  • are you sure you got the right mind of fram to say that? they are poor? you live in a slum to show you are poor so that you dont have to pay the tax. indain dogs love the slums.

  • Thanks for the interesting video

  • compliments for this documentary.

  • What ever it is government has to provide not only residential homes but also safe workspace for these people who are not a burden on the society but actually contributing to the economy. Please read The Fortune at the bottom of the pyramid by CK Prahlad. This is just the way the poor need to be by even in a samll way contibuting to the society. Stop the land grab and truley provide proper and safe accomodation to these people. Provide schools to children so that they can live better.

  • it's the largest slum in Asia.

  • Thanks for sharing- it opened my eyes! I think we often forget that people always find a way to make things work, not matter how hard life can be.

  • This is great!

  • the video really brings dharavi out to the mainstream - most people don't know all of this exists in the heart of mumbai...really important to find out about how they are being treated by the government. this is great!
