and really, thats why guitar hero is a great game, it doesnt discourage people from playing real instruments, some people just dont want to play real guitar so they use guitar hero as an outlet for the energy that comes from music. and it actually does help people find other music that they might enjoy. honestly the only two things that really got me into rush were watching the documentary just cuz i thought it would be interesting, and playing 2112 on guitar hero
My ten year old nephew was inspired by Guitar Hero. His name is Nicholas and he is playing guitar in a power trio called Death Valley and the name of their song is "Robotic Generation". Look up their song on youtube.
Alex is a class act. Standing up on stage and observing his fans and audience like that, and realizing the interest youth these days really does have for quality music. Bravo Rush.
I like the fact that it brings good music back but I hate that people think shredder's are best because the way the game is set up. If they had string bends David Gilmour would be some of the hardest songs. Thats why I stick to real guitar.
I'm like the hugest Rush fan. They should have Guitar Hero Rush (supporting "fabioproductions") Alex is right about the kids playing guitar hero getting to play real guitar but, Guitar Hero should say something like " If you learn to play these songs it will entertain guests and become a hobbie which gets you a job and then pretty much sets you up for life" GO RUSH AND ALEX IF YOU SEE THIS MESSAGE I REALLY WANT TO MEET YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I totally agree with Alex. Unfortunately now DJ Hero came out... Rush is a great band and they should make a Rush Rockband or Guitar Hero. Screw DJ Hero.
Actually, I am bull at these '70s bands (like van Halen, the Eagles, etc) going on tour. Rush has been the very few out there who have been left to fight the battle against "Pop" alone. Now that RNR is coming back, these idiots say "Hey, we've been absent for 20 years. Lets go on tour." These bands out to pay homage to RUsh for being the only ones out there keeping the 70s music live. These bands are traitors to Rock, unlike Rush.
I took my nephew to see Rush when he was 16 and he damned near crapped himself. Now I'm in a Rush tribute band in Pittsburgh, and he was floored again when he collected tickets at the door for us.
Remember - it's up to us to pass on the Rush legacy.
If you guys have ever studied Neil's lyrics, you know where his influences in objectivism come from. I'm no disciple of anyone, but I'm running a congressional campaign that will be based on those same philosophies. I'd be much obliged if you'd all critique my video's for my campaign.
PS I also put a few of my old guitar solo's in there for you.
I see his point perfectly. I got into playing guitar after getting GH2 for the PS2. I've been playing for almost 3 years and I'm glad I picked up the real thing.
It's really cool people are discovering Rush through GH. I grew up with them and now I play for a living, I'm glad eager musicians get to find out how g-r-e-a-t Rush really is...
with this good news, I expect to see sick Rush songs on GH or RB such as La Villa Strangiato, limelight, 2112 (hopefully, but i doubt they will put the whole 20 minutes as one, although it would be sick) amongst others
Well Alex is right! I discovered Rush through Rockband a year ago, now I have all of their albums and know a ton about them. I really enjoy the classics a lot more now then I did before Rockband. May be silly but it's true
Gee! He's really changed my mind. I used to view GH as something silly but if as Alex says it promotes their music and the desire to play then power on GH. Nevertheless, I still prefer doing it for real.
Totally bro! Me too! Must admit... I never thought of it in that perspective. So as long as they are not giving up the real thing (guitar, bass, drums..any REAL instrument) and it promotes that as well as the introduction to the classics.... Then I'm all for it!
I loved Rush before Guitar Hero, and was fucking boucing off walls when I found out that YYZ was on GH2. I was like :O Then I was like :D Then I was like ^_^
I love Rush, I love GH, I love everything about the combonation of the two. GO LIFE! LIFE IS GOOD!
gh Rush, that would be a dream come true for me. Although, if it ever did come out, I probably shouldn't buy it. I don't think this excuse would go well with my professors:
"The reason I have not been in class for 3 months is because I purchased gh Rush, and I refuse to leave my house until I master every song on expert."
Which is exactly what would happen. But hey, Rush kicks ass so who could blame me?
Yeah dude Alex is right. My little neighbor bugs me all the time to bring GH:3 down so she can play HIt Me With Your Best Shot. I mean, that's not the best song in the world, but it beats rap.
man.... i think guitar hero has recked rush... people only know them from yyz and tom sawyer ... im 16 and ive been listening to these 3 guys since i was born. and i have been to about 18 concerts. :)
With GH supporting the bands from the golden age of rock music, I'm enthusiastic for the future of music. I'd much rather see a kid playing Sweet Child of Mine or playing Geddy's bass solo from Driven or buying a kit and aspiring to be like Bonham or Peart. Much better than rapping about killing people or going for a ride on somebody's "disco stick".
My parents both played music and were into bands like Rush, Zeppelin, etc. I went to performing arts school with a whole pile of musical enthusiasts and have just recently realised, upon my graduation, how few young people are keeping the rock and roll traditional stuff alive. Everyone goes right to The Jonas Brothers to have a swing and I'm no fan of theirs but at least they've got guitars in their hands and the kids can see that .
I agree with Alex that Guitar Hero helps people decide to play music, but I think the only thing Guitar Hero's really proven is that music can be a profit.
Alex is completely right, if it weren't for Rock Band I would never have decided to play drums, and now I play in an actual band, after two years of playing.
@fabioproductions not a good idea it makes fans that only know 3 songs by them and listen to jobro's at the same time and make it become a huge fad to become a rush fan like most new pop artists like blackeye peas and make them overplayed until everyonelikes them and will be anoying people talk about rush 24/7 when they only know 3 songs not saying new rush fans are like that but it would be a big increas of fans who only know rush from GH
@fabioproductions it isnt a good then some fag who listens to lady gaga will like rush and it will be like omg wat is this and i like it it is now cool to like rush
I knew about Rush like 3 years before my first guitar hero game; I was 10... and I would like there to be a Rock Band: Rush, not Guitar Hero because Rock Band has always had a Rush song(and DLC) on the games
because that would be the smart thing to do. seriously that would be the smartest move activision or whatever, whoever made guitar hero, they might had not realised this but rush is the greatest rock and roll band in canada
Better yet, how about designing game characters that look like Alex, Geddy and Neil. The characters could cover the "kimono period", the "80s Trying to Look Cool" period, and the "Does Geddy Really Look Like Ozzy"? period of today.
I hope he's right, at least in Guitar Hero, kids are listening to better music than this pop horse shit. I mean granted Guitar Hero is gay as fuck, but still. Ends justify the means.
In response to rushlimelight23's comment: At no time does he say that modern music sucks. He simply points out a low point. A lot of this is do to labels and the way they have done business. By overplaying singles, dropping the artist, and bringing in something new. Along with the fact that recorded music has to be looked at as an expense instead of income (due to the fact that it can be easily copied and distributed). Please don't try to sum it all up with "modern music sucks"
Alex is right...... modern music sucks, i don't see what's so great about it. a lot of kids think music form the 70's, 80's, and 90's is uncool. i see it more in girls, though cuz boys play more video games like guitar hero and rock band.if kids were given a month or even less without modern music, they will see that non modern bands are awesome!
That's what I think too. Totally lame game but at least it's got good tunes, for the most part, and is turning kids on to REAL MUSIC, instead of this squeezed out of a tube B.S. "Music" the record companies have been subjecting us too for the last 15 years or so. Britney Spears etc. and rap SUCK !!!!!
He's right. These games are the best thing to happen to the rock music industry. It introduced one of my friends to Rush, and introduced me to bands that are more under the radar, like Dream Theater. It also inspired another friend to start drumming, and he's actually pretty good. I'm glad Guitar Hero finally included Joe Satriani too. It's about time he got some attention from the mainstream media
Let's just hope that if G.H. & R.B. really influence kids to pick up actual instruments. That they actually make good music instead of making more of the crappy, mainstream, MTV pussy shit thats out today. I highly doubt it though. These days it seems that it's more about money for most so-called musicians instead of the music. The majority of musicians today aren't good at all. Instead they go on MTV looking stupid & making asses of themselves. The few who are seem to be the underrated ones.
I agree with you, Xvoid6f. After playing Guitar Hero 2, 3 and Rock Band and being able to play most songs on Expert, I've know got an acoustic guitar and am learning to play that. I firmly believe that with Guitar Hero, i wouldn't be playing a real guitar now.
THANKS ALEX!!! we got my nephew a REAL bass and within a month he was playing full songe, including the ghost notes, now a few months later he is unbelievable! took him and his sister to 2 shows in '08 rocked his world at age 11!! in Holmdel i got them from row 8 to the front with signs that said "THEN NEW RUSH GENERATION IS HERE!" and "RUSH, PLEASE WRITHE THE SOUNDTRACK TO *MY* LIFE!" (with RUSH in red font from hemispheres). ALEX was right on them smiling at the end of the show...awesome!!
ur right Alex!- alot of the 'magic' HAS been taken outta the music and i hope that people realise that the world NEEDS real music, instead of ''computer machinery bullsh*t'!!- Much love! ALEX-GEDY AND NEIL!
Seriously, when you can make music in a few clicks on a PC, as opposed to mastering music on it, you have to wonder "Do I really have any REAL talent?"
I still don't know about Guitar Hero. The jury's still out with me. On the one hand, sure they'll get some kids into music who wouldn't otherwise do that. But it also seems like a replacement for real instrumentation. It's a totally different way to play, and that matters. We'll have to see how it plays out. Mostly it's nice to be able to play an instrument without having to plug in to a wall or tv.
Im 14, im a perfect example of a kid that played RUSH on guitar hero then got a real guitar :D

True art always finds its way to trascend... even with Nintendo's is kind of weird, but glad this kind of things happens, really :)

But keyboards are still kool.
Right?Right?*crickets*
Seriously, when you can make music in a few clicks on a PC, as opposed to mastering music on it, you have to wonder "Do I really have any REAL talent?"

I think hes right,
thats why I play guitar now bc I heard bulls on parade in Gh3
I thought it was so cool and Morello is now one of my inspirations. It was my first song I learned to play
and music does need help
rapping over fake instruments isn't music
singing over drums a bass and guitar, in my opinion, is

I still don't know about Guitar Hero. The jury's still out with me. On the one hand, sure they'll get some kids into music who wouldn't otherwise do that. But it also seems like a replacement for real instrumentation. It's a totally different way to play, and that matters. We'll have to see how it plays out. Mostly it's nice to be able to play an instrument without having to plug in to a wall or tv.
