funny thing is....i could prolly build a better machine for about 3/4's the price.....i mean,it may not have 2 chips, but it would perform just as well:{
@Jakeybabe100 Not if you factor in the fact that they last for years. Many many many years longer than the average pc. No make that just about every pc. I should know. I've owned and used both.
Wow i was thinking of getting the quad but looking at logic on your vid has inspired me to save up some more.... it will be mine oh yes it shall be mine lol thanks for the up bro
no PC can do what? have 32 gb of Ram? run 4 HDDs in Raid? use a SSD as cache? I dont know what kind of PC info you are getting, but you are wrong. Just Remember, any Hardware there is for a Mac, there is 10x more on the PC side.
Logic Pro 8 and Logic Express 8 can use all cores on 2, 4, and 8 core Macs. Keep these tips in mind as you work with Logic to balance performance on a multi-core system.
ok.. im a little confused. i dont know much about testing computer, but, you are telling me that this computer worth 3000 euro is slow? i want to move from pc to mac for audio production and what you showed me, its not worth it? if I buy a mac, i want my performance to be the best as can be! btw, i will not buy a mac to play games, i want to do a flawless job on my audio. you confused me with this..
No my friend, don't get confused.....if there is someone who doesn't know much about computer testing that is the person who labeled the single thread cinebench test "slow". There isn't much to argue here: MacPros are very expensive, but also incredibly fast, and if you talk about the 2009 models (nehalem) i mean REALLY REALLY super fast! You can do a flawless job on audio even with cheaper apple machines, such as iMac or MacBook Pros, but if you really want monstrous velocity go for the MacPro!
Totally agreed. The performance in Logic was exceptional. I forget how many tracks there were in that project but the CPU usage was barely if at all registering. 5*
With Logic Pro, what audio interface are you using? What 3rd party Audio Unit instrument and effects are used in the project for this youtube video? Which Midi controller are you using?
2.26ghz for i7? huum..wow, apple choose the cheapest cpu. i know i7 920 is 2.66ghz and it cost $280.
16-core...wow.uu. this is weak compare to a GPU like 8800GT. Parallel computing for videos are the future. Badaboom proved that 8800GT can encode video upto 5 to 8 times faster than fastest i7 965
agree with Mac Pro Rocks Xeon Nehalem ARE NOT the same as i7's why do ppl think they are the same?? jeez. just uploading my videos of my 2008 Mac Pro unboxing, Ram Installs Hard Drive installs and my new 2009 2.93 8Core Mac Pro unboxing as well.
testing 8 core on WoW, i would say wow :D you are "advanced"

@gumberly Snow Leopard is entirly a 64-bit system,he take full advantage of hyper-threading.

Imagine switching to 3Dmax via bootcamp
Windows XP 64bit and with 32GB of RAM
you can now own a mini-render farm, with
4 pcs of RAIDed 10k RPM RAPTOR HDDs, with 2 strapped with another 2 for mirroring.
Provide an 128GB SSD as cache space for
rendering work. This is truly a mouthwatering
spec for any 3D artist. Of course it'll cost you
a bomb to build it. Not a single PC can do that.

11836 geekbench is no way slow!
for games, you can simply put in it better videocard, but for music and videoediting is more than enough
DarkS3phiroth17 2 years ago 3
If you look closely I believe he is only using the 32bit version of Geekbench. The results would be a lot higher with the 64bit version.

8 cores with HT =/= 16 cores. You wouldn't call a P4 with HT a dual core, would you?

You cant compare desktop parts to Xeon server parts to the Macs. The Xeons are superior.

Have you tried the following scenario with Logic Pro 8:
1)Fresh new install of Logic Studio (Logic Pro 8).
2)ZERO plugins added.
3)Open Le Disko demo song, original unmodified.
4)Switch screen set, for example 1 to 3, or 1 to 5. Then, Logic CRASHES, consistently.
Are you experiencing this issue/bug? Not comforting, as switching to Mac should prevent crashes!!

You have 8 CORES and 16 THREADS, not 16 CORES....
RemarkabLee 2 years ago
i know 8 core 16 "virtual cores" hyperthreading
djjupp 2 years ago
Its 8 Cores and 8 threads making it 16 cores. 8 physical cores + 8 virtual cores basically.
krnboy32 2 years ago
8 extra virtual cores offer nowhere near the performance 8 extra physical cores would, keep that in mind.
