  • lol 39 apps my comp will blow up and spit out the harddrive.

  • HD speed increase/decreases FPS in games or just the load time ?

  • @nemesisxatm092 Just the load time. It shouldn't have any real affect on the performance of the game.

  • im planning getting a HP PC. theres to different version. the cheaper one features an i5 intel with 1TB 7200RPM, the other version is an i7 intel with 2TB 5400RPM. will it show any difference or the same tranfers rate? o-o

  • @youamuseme1 go with the i5 1TB. that way if you actually for some reason do need a i7 in your desktop you can upgrade that later on for less money. but i dont understand why you are buying a prebuilt desktop. just build your own and save a couple hundred bucks. its really not that hard to build a pc, knowing how a pc works is the hard part.

  • i'm glad the difference isn't greater since I just purchased a laptop with a 5400rpm harddrive. Doesn't look like that big of a deal, especially considered the desktop I'm coming from (which belongs in 2002)

  • @ps2nolimits LOL I know the pain of the 2002 pc.

  • Is truth that 5400 rpm HDD cut down the performance of processor (e.g. i5-2410) comparing to 7200 rpm?

  • @TonyBudy123 In a sense, yes it does. They run hand in hand when it comes to speed of a computer. If you want a faster computer, you upgrade your processor and your HDD. If you have a slow HDD and a fast processor, you cant go any faster than what the HDD will allow, even if the processor wants to. If you have a fast HDD and a fast processor, then you'll have fast speeds all around.

  • are there any advatages on having 5900 over 7200?

  • @nativus222 It's slower, but if you want to use it as a backup drive, it will be a bit cheaper than a 7200.

  • @nativus222 Slower speeds are more reliable over a long period of time, not to say that the 7200 doesn't last long, but the 5400 will just last longer.

  • Thanks a lot bro.. it helped me a lotttttttttttttttttt....

  • Awesome comparison!

  • I don't think my i7 950 could open 39 apps that fast!

  • @java575 depends on the app :)

  • On PC every second counts.

  • THX! nd peace!

  • Looks like im getting the 7200rpm hard drive

  • @davidfordapple get a cheap SSD

  • thanks for this video :)

  • dammit...i regret customizing my laptop with a hardrive at 5400.

  • Dude wut? woah no way really? unbelievable. Thanks for the up because I've read how theres almost no difference since 5400 rpm disks have higher data density. But apparently thats BS!

  • what about battery life!>.?????????????????/

  • @csuci805 It is negligible, at least for me. I have 7200 on my laptop and it uses roughly 5-7% more energy. It is worth it!!!

  • This was such a revealing video. I'm about to buy two 2TB hard drives and the price between 5400 and 7200 is almost double. Thanks for video. You saved me some money.

  • @TheFunnyMonkeyBoy I was kind of telling you to open up your laptop to were ever the hard drive is and there could be a label on the hard drive saying what it is.

  • @TheFunnyMonkeyBoy Open up laptop/pc it would probably say the make/model on it.

  • Nice video but what is the song please ?

  • :C

  • Okay I'm building a custom gaming laptop. I have a lot of what I want so far, except a HDD. I automatically thought to get a 7200, but I heard that it'll take a heavy toll on my overall battery life. Should I just get a 5400?

  • @Pwnage4evar people will also tell you the 7200rpm runs hotter. In essence, it is (barely) true on both counts, but if you get a decent HDD, you won't notice the heat or battery usage. If this is a gamimg laptop, put the 7200rpm. It'll help load things faster.

  • oh.. this is the new beetles song... called... apple ripped me off by putting a 5400RPM drive in my macbook pro so it cant record in garageband properly

  • Are you blind!!??!?! They were CLEARLY booted up at 41 seconds! Not 43 & 45!!

  • @Danz207 no you are wrong, he waited until they booted all programms

  • lol about 50 quid more for a few seconds faster... i think I'd be happier with the money & be patient for 2 seconds

  • sounds like a tune off of Jet Set Radio or something

  • Yeah, 7200 RPM is Snappy with loading times, only reason why I bought a new one.

  • This video is the epitome of the title.Nice guys.

  • Very nice

  • I just bought a Samsung 7200 today......to replace my turd HP/Hitachi 5400

and next year SSDs will be 50 bucks too

  • @excelerater not the big storage ones... thats in like 2 years

  • only thing i didn't like was during the 3.2gb file copy where you slowed the vid after the 7200 finished. other than that, great job. btw, what's the song?

  • nice video!

  • Awesome video. Very helpful and well done

  • waw the difference is huge, i wonder why isn't the 7200 the standard yet. should be in every pc, if not SSDs.

  • wow great comparison. thanks for the information.

  • What is this tune, anyway?

  • What is this tune, anyway?

  • 39 apps would take my old pc a year to open lol literally

  • Good comparison, annoying music, and too loud.

  • that explined me a lot!

i never tought that disc RPM could influence like that

    thx! =D

  • Great video. I'm going with 7200 now.

  • 43 to load Windows on an i5? It takes ~7 seconds on my T7700 Core2Duo & 160Gb Kingston SSD. To copy a 3Gb file on my SSD takes 47 seconds.

Top (non-RAID) HDD's will only do ~80Mb/s, whilst 2nd Gen. SSD's will do ~230Mb/s. No contest really...

  • @Anamnesia Is there a laptop you can recommend with those specs???

  • could you show the samsung hm640jj vs. a seagate momentus 7.200?? plz

  • great vid... liked the music! :P

  • The Transfer rate is based on partition to partition or a hard disk to an external hard disk?

I am planning to buy an external hard disk but i dont know whether to buy 7200 or 5400.

My laptop currently using a 5400rpm. Will the transfer speed be limited by the speed of 5400 in my laptop when i m transferring the file between the 5400 and 7200?

BTW, its a nice video. Show that 7200 really got some difference with 5400

  • @maxchu92 If you are planning to go through usb, save your money and get a 5400rpm drive. Because the usb interface is too slow even for the slowest hard drive you can buy today.

  • Nice demonstration!

  • Hey man, cool vid, just what was looking for, If got more time, con record some more multitasking timings? Tkx!

  • but 4gb ram and 32bit OS wha?

  • hmmm bummed my new laptop is only 5400 now.. did not realize it was that big of a difference.

  • @xxsekoxx i am surprised how little difference there is. When i got the first 2.5 7200rpm hitachi came out with back then the difference was simply huge

  • Alrighty then :)

great video! showed me exactly what i needed!

My choice is clear now :D

    THANK YOU BUNCHES

  • Cool video!

  • excellent test. not many realize the importance of the speed of the hard drive in the performance of a laptop
