Dude 555's are sweet! You can use pin 3 as an audio out also. That looks (sort of) like a triangle wave to me. Use a smaller cap between 3 and ground (1u-.1u) for audible frequencies.
Thats what I'm looking for........I need that effect for my terminator T-800 endeo skull display prop I build.........Led eyes fading in and out....did you ever post that schematic.......
@Arjoonmoal It's still a GREAT chip and much easier to work with than new surface mount chips. I use it all the time for everything from burglar alarms in cars and buildings to L.E.D. flashers. I bought about 100 of them from Unicorn Electronics for like $10! A LOT easier to use this chip instead of trying to make the same circuits using bipolar transistors (roll eyes)......
@Starbuckin of course see 555 circuits contest in hacked gadgets. so cool. however you can't deny that this chip technology is a bit old. and hell yea how people use it are very new. i also made energy savers and security automatic lights with it
Thanks! I did this a long time ago with a microcontroller, using pulse-width modulation to get the same effect, but I was never happy with it -- even though the difference in each brightness level was very small, it could still be discerned with the naked eye. I wanted the pulsating to be completely "smooth". I haven't looked at your schematic yet, but I assume that's the case here -- ie, that the changes in brightness are due to the charging & decay of an RC circuit.. Is that correct?
pshhh IC's are foor noobs alll digital electrs r for nubs im a real man with my caps and trannys to make a rela anolog hardstyle circuit mofos! me FTW!
Nice One .... Thank U so much for your help ... This is what I need ... Easy and effective. And your schematic is very useful. BTW: What values I will need if I want connect this with 2,4 V battery :D Is that possible?
Hi ... now I need make this for 4,8 V in USB port. And if I do this so diod doesnt work :( 4,8V is low for this :( Its only for 7,5 - 9V ... for the best fading. So my question is - What kind or values of resistors and capacitor will I need with 4,8 voltage from USB port on my PC? Can U help me please? Or anybody else?
Please not that circuit will only work 555C or CN, it will not work genaric NE555's however a simlary effect can be created useing a pnp transistor and capacitor useing the output of a astable ne555
can I use 100pf 50V?

the schematic given doesnt show where the power supply goes, can anyone tell me where it goes? thanks
alexizhernan 3 months ago
@alexizhernan Pin 1 is ground and pin 8 is + voltage.
That was a major thing I overlooked when I created the schematic/pcb

dose it just use a capacitor or is it able to power more leds?

I find the Instructables pages very annoying.
Any chance you'e still got that schem or layout hangin' around?

@100roberthenry Use capacitor with larger capacity I think will solve your problem.Try it.

Do you mean 2 -4volt batteries? If so, you shouldn't need to do anything differently.
